Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Paul asks…

Should a skinny person go on a fast or liver cleanse diet?

I’m currently on a liver cleanse diet to hopefully remove toxins from my body but the problem is I am skinny. I lose weight easily and by removing many foods from my diet, I feel like I will lose a lot of weight. Should I even be on this diet?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Cleansing has absolutely no medical benefit and is in fact harmful to the digestive tract.
There is no “build up” of bad plaque or sludge in a normal system. If this was the case we would have people dying left and right from malnutrition since their bodies couldn’t absorb nutrients.
Since we reabsorb most of the water in our food and drink through the large intestine, If it was coated with “mucoid plaque”, we would all be sloshing around like sponges yes?
We “cleanse and detox” 24 hours a day through respiration, sweat, liver, and kidneys.
We can help by eating a healthy diet with minimal added sugar and salt. Lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, whole grain foods, beans, peas, and brown rice keep a system as healthy as it can be.
Minimal alcohol, caffeine, soda.
Read food labels. If you can’t pronounce it, don’t put it in your body.
Cleanses actually flush out the beneficial bacteria and enzymes in the digestive system.
A high fiber diet works every time.
Spend your money in the produce department instead of giving it away.

Linda asks…

When you lose weight does your face get thinner too?

I want to lose weight and fast. I have chubby cheeks and want to get rid of them. So I was wondering if losing weight will thin my face out? Tips?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Yes…The fat of your cheeks also reduces with your body fat..It surely does..When i was in my home town i was a bit healthy, then i shifted to hostel and there i faced a lot of problem in eating,i started playing sports…I could spot the difference..Like passport size photos, normal pics,i could easily see the difference..And if you just want to make your face thin, without any body weight loss, drink a lot of water..

Sandy asks…

How to lose a decent amount of weight in a week or two?

I need to lose weight. And fast!! I’m 6’0″ right now, and I’m a 15 year old girl. I’m about 145lbs and a size 6. but I need to lose weight! I need perfection! I want to be around a size 2 or 4 if possible. Im not anorexic so please don’t think that I am. But how can I lose enough weight within a week or two? I’ve heard that chewing sugar-free gum helps you lose weight because of Sorbitol in it. Is this true? And what other ways can I lose weight really fast? I’ll do whatever it takes.

weight loss cardiff answers:

The fastest way to lose weight would be to go on a Ketogenic Diet. Cutting out all sugar, and limiting your carbs to just 20 a day and you could easily lose up to 20 pounds in two weeks. The way the diet works is that by limiting you bodys main fuel supply (carbohydrates) it is forced to burn its own fat stores for energy. Also because burning fat for energy is sort of inefficient it increases your metabolism indefinitely.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You can lose the unwanted 50 lbs. Or so, it’s just a matter of finding the right combination of diet and exercise that you can live with every day and stay motivated.

There are many good weight loss programs out there. You just need to find the one that fits in with your lifestyle and motivation. Some are designed for rapid weight loss and others employ a slower long term approach. You can find a lot of help on the web these days, information and support forums. I listed some popular sources that might help you.

Donna asks…

I want to start dance. I’m 41. Am I out of luck?

I’m in love with choreography. When I was little I loved movie musicals. Now I want to learn dance.

Here are the problems with that:

I’m 41. For somebody just starting out dance, that’s pretty late in the game. I keep saying to myself, “Gwen Verdon” danced the lead in”Sweet Charity” at 41, but she danced all her life to get there! 🙁

I’m not as thin as I’d like to be. I can lose weight quickly, and my muscles spring out hard very easily when I exercise regularly, but right this second, I’m built “sturdy” – not slinky. 🙁

I have very heavy, sturdy, super strong bones – they don’t break, no matter what I do. That’s good for dance injuries, but that kind of bone density makes you physically heavy because these bones are heavier than more fragile ones. I’ll have to work so much harder to get lift when I do jumps. That’s intimidating.

Last, I have a damaged tendon in my left ankle and foot, and when I exert it, it becomes inflamed and hurts like the dickens. I can fight through the pain and I think dance is worth it. Besides, I’m sure dancers all face painful feet and ankles. That’s the biz I guess. So there are the obstacles.

The good points: I live in New York. Lots of dance schools here. But I don’t know where to start, there are so many! I could find and hang out with real dancers and dance students here. But I’m so lost, and I am also very scared. What should I do to start dance at 41? Am I a dreamer? Is there any hope for a 41 year old late bloomer?

Thanks for all answers, Yahoo dance community. Really. This is my dream.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Out of luck, absolutely not!

In terms of the body, don’t worry about getting thin. Body type has nothing to do with talent, it’s just a stereotype that gets you hired as a classical ballet dancer. I’ve seen 180 lb women with amazing talent, and I’ve seen 90 lb women that look like a grasshopper on stage. Also, that ‘slinky’ body is genetic, you can’t work out to get it. If you’re ‘sturdy boned’ then you always will be. At your age and at your ability you don’t want to have the bones of a little bird, nor do you want that facility. You want your body to be a sturdy and solid instrument on which you can rely. Overly flexible usually means weak, and weak means dangerous. You want a balance of strength and flexibility, as one is useless without the other.

To get in shape for dance I strongly recommend you sign up for yoga and pilates classes, especially in the ‘off season’. They’ll give you the long and lean muscles that dancers seek and use, and they’ll greatly improve your balance and flexibility (plus they’re nice and relaxing!). Running and lifting weights are useless for dancers. If you want good cardio, take up swimming. No impact on the joints and it burns huge calories. Skipping rope (professional boxer style, not double dutch) is a good way to get cardio, too, just make sure you’re in good shoes and using your knees properly.

The tendon may be fixable. If you haven’t been to physiotherapy then you need to go, even if it’s only for one or two sessions. They’ll teach you valuable at-home exercises. For the inflammation, remember RICE. Rest, ice, compression, elevation. Alternate between hot and cold compresses to reduce the swelling. Ibuprofen may help (Tylenol is NOT an anti-inflammatory). A proper support may be what you need. Get fit for a brace if your doctor deems it necessary. You’ll thank yourself when you’re 80. You may want to ask about special insoles for daily wear. It really depends on your injury.

Dance SHOULDN’T hurt if you’re doing it properly, so don’t convince yourself that beauty is pain and all that. If something hurts then that is your body’s way of saying SLOW DOWN, YOU’RE DOING IT WRONG! Listen to your body talking. Some things will be uncomfortable, and you may be sore after classes, but you should never be in agony. If you take care of your body it will return the favor.

You’re certainly not too old to physically partake in dance. Some professionals dance until 40 (and are asked to retire for being ‘old’), and continue teaching well after that. My mother is far too old for the stage, but at 56 she still has the grace she had at 22 (and the skinny legs, which I envy). As long as you are physically in shape, age truly is ‘just a number’. Even my 80 year old grandmother still has that dancer poise (underneath the Parkinsons, mind you). You can spot dancers from a mile away, even when they’re ”old”.

I’ve had an 80 year old woman in one of my beginner classes, and she was awesome! I’ve also seen a man close to 90 move in ways I could only imagine (he’d studied yoga his entire life). Your mind creates these limitations, and with concentration you can free yourself from them. Set realistic goals, but don’t let the idea of ‘being over 40’ stop you from dancing to your very best potential. Baby steps, and stop when it hurts.

For now, sign up for yoga and pilates. Then, look for dance studios in your area (Mintchip had great suggestions). Sign up for beginner level adult classes once or twice a week. Go from there 🙂

Best of luck, I hope you discover a new passion.

(Also, you’ll probably learn basic technique for the first few years, don’t expect to see many jumps).

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Donna asks…

Dose anyone have any weight loss success stories?

I am in the process of losing weight after being pregnant, and having a c-section. I actually gained most of my weight before I got pregnant. I had a hard time getting pregnant. I had PCOS, and some hormone problems that made me pack on the pounds, on top of taking meds to help with those problems, the meds I had to take caused weight gain. During my pregnancy I only gained about 35 pounds, which my doctor told me was the healthy amount to gain. Before all these problems came up I was used to being very thin. I always felt like I was very pretty, and I had a lot of confidence. I still think I’m pretty; I just want to lose weight. Also after I get my weight off I will be buying a completely new wardrobe, and makeup. So that gives me something to really look forward to, and makes me want to get it off that much more. I would love to hear some of your weight lose success stories, or makeover succes stories. Or if you have any kind of tips what so ever.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Being preggers screws up many women’s body forever, and loosing it is tuff, for sure. It all now comes down to the oldies but goodies— both yucko: diet and exercise.

Things that work for me:
Breakfast:
steel cut oats,1/4 c cooked until done also called Scottish oats, you can get them at Trader Joe’s, or any health food section.
Walnuts,10 or so halves, blue berries, ground flax seed, 2 T, some brown sugar . Skim milk
Lunch
1 c. Green spinach, olive oil for dressing, some olives, a carrot sliced, one tomato, or some cottage cheese and fresh fruit.
Dinner
a few oz. Fish, chicken or other lean meat, a green veggie, and a very tiny salad… Again, olive oil, not man made dressings..
Eliminate breads, candy, brownies, and the other stuff you and I all love. Snack on celery. You can easily loose a pound or two a week. Just remember, it didn’t take you just two months to pack in on, it will be longer than two months to get rid of it… And the exercise… Walk at least 20 min every day….even if it is just around your neighborhood pushing your baby with you. Boring??? Oh, yes. If you go to a gym, walk or use the elliptical strider or the tread mill for 15 minimum, and at least 3 times a week. Then use some of the machines for toning your tummy, and muscles.

Hope this helps.

Susan asks…

anyone have any great weight loss success stories?

just wondering if anyone out there has had success in losing a bunch of weight, if so how did you do it ?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Well here is one tip. Try eating more in the morning and less before you go to sleep. Avoid eating 4 hours prior to sleep so eat dinner early. This will help you to burn the calories from the morning thorughtout the day and will avoid you from gaining weight at night. At night your body turns everything to fat. Also eat less fat foods and reduce calorie intakes. And excercise to get a higher metabolism. It worked for me! I lossed 10 lbs in about 2 months!
