Betty asks…

What is the fastest and easiest way to lose weight in your arms?

I’m 15 and fairly thin but my arms are a bit chubby so how can I lose weight in them fast and easily? Without using diet pills or anything…

weight loss cardiff answers:

Lift weights or something. Or get those rubber strips and pull on them, I’m not sure! ^^

Sandy asks…

How can my sister lose weight faster?

My sister and I started dieting at the beginning of January (like a million other people haha!) I’m 23 and trying to lose about 30 pounds. I can lose weight very easily and have lost 15 ,pounds so far and she’s trying to lose 100 pounds and hasn’t lost but 5! As far as I know she has been eating healthy and she’s put on most of that weight will pregnant with my two nieces. We go to the gym every night and she always does way more than I do. The gym doesn’t have many options because it’s in her apartments complex. She usually does the elliptical for a half hour and the treadmill all the way inclined on a fast walk for a half hour and sometimes does the little bike thing lol. Anyway, I feel like she should be seeing more results? She isn’t lazy or anything because she’s always running after the two girls. Anything she can do to make it come off better? I know it’s not something that happens over night but five pounds a month seems like nothing. I would love for her to get back to her normal weight and I know it would make her happy. Any advice I can give her? Thanks in advance!

weight loss cardiff answers:

It’s good to only lose 1-2lbs per week, but when you have 100lbs to lose, it will be coming off faster than that at first. She’s clearly still eating too much. Losing weight is 80% diet and 20% exercise. You can workout all day, but if you’re still eating junk, then you just won’t see much progress. If she has 100lbs to lose, it should be coming off pretty fast at first, but I can guarantee you that she is NOT eating as healthy as she says she is. It’s very easy to overestimate the number of calories you eat each day, so putting it all down so you can truly see what you’re eating is a great idea. If she REALLY is eating healthy and not losing, she should see a doctor to check her thyroid.

I would recommend you tell her about a website called My Fitness Pal or download the app. It’s a site for adults looking to lose weight and get healthier. It’s free to join and they tell you how many calories to eat based on your height/weight/age and how much weight you want to lose per week. It’s also great for connecting with other people who are also trying to lose and get healthier. She can add friends, ask questions, create a blog or you don’t have to do any of that. It’s a wonderful site.

Good for you for trying to help her out. Good luck to the both of you!

Linda asks…

What’s a REALLY good way to lose weight fast?

Whats a good way to lose weight fast and not worry about weight rebound and please dont tell me excercise and eat healthy PLEASE BE SPECIFIC cuz im either skateboarding or playing soccer half the time and I try to eat healthy most of the time but what can I say? I just love food!! Anyway, any tips???

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hi Mimi,

I’ve definitely got some tips for you, and I won’t just say “eat healthy and exercise” 🙂

That’s awesome that your active, that’s half the battle, other half is eating properly. To lose weight as fast as possible and do it in a healthy way is not as hard as people think. Just cutting SODA and sugary drinks from your diet COMPLETELY is just one awesome way to lose weight fast. That along with the other tips I’m going to share below and you will be on your way to easily losing the weight and keeping it off.

As cliche as it may sound you gotta eat your veggies. They are amazingly good for you, also raw nuts (almonds are best) fruits, and 100% whole grain breads instead of white flours (white flour is very bad for you, read up on it if you get the chance!) Try and stay away from fried foods and fast food as much as possible, and other empty calories and foods that provide you no nutrients, like ice cream/candy/cake etc. Common sense goes a long way with what foods to eat and how to be healthy, so use it 🙂

Building healthy eating habits and keeping the weight off in the long term is what you should really strive for. Also, make sure you don’t count calories, it can drive you CRAZY! Just eat GOOD calories, and when your satisfied, stop eating. Try to eat more meals a day and portion them smaller, it really is proven to speed up your metabolism and burn fat way faster. If you mix this in with the other things I’ve shared, you will be on your way to easily losing weight and keeping it off.

Just be persistent, set goals, make little changes and stick with them. You will get to where you want to be. You really have to want it, I did and I’m at my goal weight now. Please check out my blog, I think you will enjoy the information and my weight loss story. The link is below and best of luck hon.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Richard asks…

How much weight can i lose in 2 weeks?

I kinda wanna shock the people at school. I am planning to eat not to much on Thanksgiving. I weigh 256 now 5’11 16 yr old male. (Posted previous question about weight loss). Cutting down and exercising how much could i lose.

weight loss cardiff answers:

1-2 lbs that would stay off … Up too 5-10 lbs if you starve yourself, but then it would come back with 2+lbs … But lets be realistic …

I used an elliptical trainer and lost around 80lbs. It took around 6 months and I slowly incorporated free weights. Get your body to start loosing weight and gradually add the weights to build muscle and tone up as much as you can. Being that big you may have ‘left over’ skin so youll want to tone as well. Just dont rush it, do cardio until you notice a difference, not what a scale says. Then begin to lift.

Try 15 minutes of cardio, or whatever youre capable of, but use your time wisely. Like 20% warm up … 50% moderate … 30% cool down.

Alot of people think its just about the weights, but you need to get your body burning that extra fuel. Try an elliptical if you can, treadmills and stairclimbers are hard on knees, stationary bikes suck for people trying to lose weight. Ellipticals are very fluid and easy on the body.

Ruth asks…

What can i do to lose weight healthily?

I’m 5’6 110 pounds and want to lose abit of weight. Nothing too major, just tone up for the summer. Is there any specific thing that makes HEALTHY weight loss easier (besides the obvious exercise and moderate eating) ive heard that six small meals a day help but am a bit confused on this. any advice at all would be great. Thnx

weight loss cardiff answers:

Throw out ur deep-fat fryer.
Throw away all ur frying pans.
Roast, grill or microwave all ur food with minimum fat.
Ban takeways, chocolate bars & full-fat milk.

Lisa asks…

Any suggestions on good ways to lose 60 pounds?

Not looking for the easiest way, but rather the best way to lose and keep off 60 pounds. Looking for any tips on specific exercises, foods, supplements, and anything else. Also, what is a good timeline for this kind of weight loss?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Check the web for weight loss…there’s billions of ideas, some that have worked for one person, to lose it quickly, but would never work for anyone else, let alone help keep it off.

Here’s the only way to lose any weight, and keep it off…

LIFESTYLE CHANGE

It’s the most obvious, and yet the most difficult thing to change: no or low sugar intake, low calories, exercise DAILY, lots of water, and keeping tabs on all this…AT ALL TIMES!! (no “just one more” or “one last one” excuses)

A diet pill/concoction (Dexitrim Max) can help for the short time, but stop the pill, and BAMB the weight is back on. Find a friend, even a long-distance one who you contact regularly to help with encouragement, tracking, and overall support.

Good Luck Friend!!

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Helen asks…

Can I be a dietitian without being a registered dietitian?

I would like to go back to school to become a dietitian but after doing some research with the ADA I have found that to become a registered dietitian I have to attend one of their CADE approved schools. The problem is that none of these schools are near where I live. If I get a degree in nutrition science can I still be a dietitian but just not a registered one or what are some other career options with that degree?

weight loss cardiff answers:

No, you must attend a CADE certified school and then get into an internship program. There are plent of CADE approved schools that offer degrees online though!

Mandy asks…

Is being a dietitian the only way to get involved in nutrition counseling?

Because I really don’t like how ADA (American Dietitian Association) focuses so much on physical science and western medicine, I just want to focus on the psy part of it and the application of nutrition in life, I could care less why things are the way they are. If not I can just pick something else which is ok.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Seems obvious, but a regular old medical doctor is where most of us get information/counseling.

John asks…

Do you think that seeing a dietitian will help you in your pregnancy?

I am 25 weeks and my midwife recommended that I go and see a dietitian, but did any of you see one. The way my MW is telling me to eat seems totally bogus. She is telling me no bread and yogurt and less fruit. Did seeing a dietitian actually help you all eat healthy during your pregnancies. Do you wish you would of seen one before you did, like a few weeks before. I do. Do they give you advice that helps you after you give birth?

weight loss cardiff answers:

I seen one… My husband is in the military and the hospital requires you to go see one…
I enjoyed going to see the dietitian because there were some things that I had been told to stay away from and she told me that I could have some of those things… One advantage for myself was that when I went home from the hospital, two days after delivering, you couldn’t tell that I had a baby. My weight dropped very quickly!
Yes… I had a follow up appointment with her and continued with a diet plan that made breast feeding easier.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Betty asks…

Is it possible to lose weight while you’re pregnant?

I read in a health magazine a few years ago that there was a girl that lost weight while she was pregnant. She stated in the article: ” The rest of my body shrank as my belly grew.” Is this really possible?
I weigh 160 lbs and I’m 5’3.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I lost a few pounds during morning sickness, but that was it. It’s not safe to lose a lot of weight. Her body probably stayed the same but seemed smaller to her in comparison to her belly.

Lisa asks…

Is it safe to have weight loss during pregnancy?

Im 4 mons. pregnant and i have gained about 10 pounds before i got pregnant and i was wondering if there is a safe way to lose weight while pregnant even if i was eating healthy etc. or is losing weight a no all together during pregnancy?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Now is not the time to lose weight. Just eat healthy and exercise. You can lose weight after the baby is born.

Ruth asks…

Is it safe to lose excess body weight while pregnant?

Through healthier eating and exercise, is it safe to lose weight ( excess body fat ) while you are pregnant?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Healthy eating and moderate exercise are great while pregnant, but you should not be trying to lose weight at this point…most likely your OB would tell you if you are overweight that it is safe for you to gain less than 25 lbs during pregnancy, and then to worry about losing weight after you have your baby. Ask your OB.
