There is a simple rule that is easy to remember and follow…”like dissolves like”. What it means is that solvents which possess certain physical characteristics will dissolve solutes that possess similar physical characteristics. At it’s most general meaning, orgainc solvents will dissolve organic compounds. That being said, all the compounds you listed will dissolve in diethyl ether. HOWEVER, not all of the compounds you listed are MORE soluble in diethyl ether than water. Glucose, for one, is actually more soluble in water than it is in ether. The reason is because water is more polar than ether and can hydrogen bond with water more freely than with ether since water has both hydrogen bond donor and acceptor atoms. Similarly, the more ‘hydrocarbon-like’ a solute is (with 2-napthol being the most hydrocarbon-like compound of the ones listed), the more soluble it will be in less polar solvents.

Diethyl ether is a colourless, extremely volatile liquid with a characteristic smell. It is used as am anaesthetic, although it is not an ideal anaesthetic. It is safer than chloroform and more effective than nitrous oxide. Unwanted effects of exposure to ether can include a cough, sore throat, painful red eyes, a headache, drowsiness, laboured breathing and nausea. Vomiting is quite common.

But some people like its sub-anaesthetic effects on consciousness when you sniff it; it has “abuse potential”.

If I watch the Zumba 45 minute youtube videos, will I still lose weight?

Hey, I am currently doing Zumba. At the beggining of the program, I was big and had fatness lumps, so I looked terrible in my favorite t-shirts.But , as I did the Zumba 10 day weight loss, which is described as a schedule in the manual, my stomach would shrink and flatten.
Currently, I weight 10 pounds less, and My stomach is firm. And so far I have done the 10 day workout , and the starters week in Zumba. This is a little amazing to me, but I probably only lost weight because I tried my hardest, and did the meal plan.

But, my sister tried it out ,shes 11 years old, and has lost only 4 pounds. She did the same work outs with me, but, she doesn’t follow the meal plan, and she didn’t put as much effort as me. But, she lost her fatness lump, looks slim, and eats healthier. She says that that is good enough for her.

If you are getting Zumba too, do your best and do the Zumba 10 Day weight Loss plan until you feel good enough, and do then do the regular excersises for the rest of the time, or quit.

I never used weight watchers but recently I noticed that I lost a lot of weight…and its just like what everyone else says…good diet and excercise. But I didnt excercise that much…and I didnt eat that much either, I just cut down on the bread (especially bread), and most grains..and I just ate veggies, meat, and occasional junk. I used to be on this diet where I had to follow a very strange menu…so i thought I would give it a try. The first day you can only eat fruits. That was very hard!!! Everytime I would eat, I would get hungry again. The second day was only veggies. That was a little better because I could eat baked potatoe, french fries, and cooked veggies. The third day was both fruits and veggies…well I quit the second day anyway so theres no point in following this menu….its very hard and NOT for everyone. Anyway, now I am healthy and I weigh a good weight of 105. So basically I just stayed away from bread and rice the whole time! 🙂

Just reduce your calorie intake and jog or walk quickly every day. You can even dress warm while jogging to sweat off a ton of water weight.

Eating disorders are bad, but reducing your calorie intake is pretty healthy. One of the big secrets to slowing the aging process is to have a low calorie diet.

Eat fruits etc. And avoid high protein foods. Once your body consumes the calories from the food you eat, it will use energy by consuming fat stores. This is a good thing.

i want to begin my water fast today, but how much will i lose in 3 days? i’m aiming for 30 days. also, the internet said that while water fasting that i shouldn’t exercise, which will be hard for me due to the fact that i’m very active and have been trying to lose weight lately. will this work? or should i just stick to eating healthy and exercising like i already do? please help! thanks 🙂

Any diet that includes the word “fast” is a recipe for disaster. You should eat 5-6 small meals spread throughout the day while exercising 3-4 times per week at a respectable intensity. Any crash diet or fast will result in weight gain in the long run.

okay… well i am over weight for my age. i hate it! i need to lose pounds quickly, easily, and FREE because i only make $20 a week. please give me some links or help or how you did it.

Losing weight not only can be free but it can save you money too.
You gained weight because you ate too much, food cost money.
Now you have to eat less and therefore save on grocery shopping.

Eat less, therefore spend less.
Use your own body weight for exercising (lunges, squats, crunches, heel raises, push-ups), Your own body weight is free.

Weights cost about $1/pound but you can use water bottles, books or anything that weigh anything.

Go for a walk/jog outside, that is usually free too.

Get a physically demanding job so you get more than $20 a week and get fit in the process.

(Now, the “quickly, easily” part…does not work that way)

Eat more protein (like baked chicken and tuna fish) and cut way back on carbs and fats (like sugary stuff, or breads,noodles, fried measts, etc) Try adding exercise to your daily routine, like running or biking.
