How often can I cheat on my diet and still maintain weight loss?

Well, it’s not actually a diet. I have totally changed my eating habits and have been working out regularly. I have been keeping track of my weight loss on a computer program and have been losing an average of 3.4 oz per day. How often can I cheat on my eating and still maintain weight loss? Right now its been once or twice per month. I don’t want to risk weight gain but I want to enjoy good food with my kids every once in a while. Last night I ate pizza and this morning my weight is 4 lbs higher according to the scale, I can’t do that! 4lbs is a major setback. I had a friend that said I can eat bad once per week. What do you think? I’m not sure how often really fit people eat what they want. Or why I gain so easily (one night of junk and I gain 3 or 4 lbs that took me weeks to lose.)

Actually, cheating once in a while (and not giant binges, but uppering calorie intake) HELPS you lose weight. You don’t want your body to become accustom to the calories you are eating. If once every month or so you “go off your diet” and eat still healthy, but a bit higher calorie (allow yourself to indulge) you’ll notice when you go back on your diet two days later, the weight will come off easier.

My weight stays very steady no matter how much physical activity I add. My diet is poor and I am ready for change. Carbs are good for running, but not so good for weight loss. I need to find a happy medium and am hoping there is an easy to follow diet out there for me.

You want to eat lean white meats and fishes, plenty of fruits and veggies and limit your carbs. Carbs are good but unless you’re marathon training, they stick on you like glue.

I also eat red meat about 1x a week for protein and iron.

Like, say you eat UNDER your amount of calories as you are meant to but you burn most off, will you still lose weight effectively? Like say your meant to eat 1800 and you eat 1200 and burn off 100, will you still lose weight cos you have eaten under?

Yes. Assuming your numbers are all accurate.

Bear in mind that:

1. Any BMR estimate (1800?) you get from websites or calculators or wherever is only an ESTIMATE. Everyone’s metabolism, digestive efficiency, and daily activity level is somewhat different, so your’s could easily be ± 10%.

2. Same goes for the impact of your exercise (100?). Note that exercise machines cannot and do not measure calories burned. They only give you a number calculated from the machine settings.

3. Its unlikely that your estimate of calorie intake is any more accurate than the rest of your numbers.

I’m not trying to discourage you, just to make you understand that weight loss is not a neat, linear, calculated, precise thing, ie, “I’m going to eat X calories, burn Y, and lose Z pounds every 10 days”

It would be if you could measure your fuel use and intake precisely, but you can’t. Most people underestimate their calorie intake and overestimate the impact of their exercise. Eat a little less, exercise more, and let the scale take care of itself. Think months, not days.

During the summer I can lose weight easily because I exercise and diet but during school days I am too busy with homework that I dont have time to exercise .. You can easily lose weight by getting around 30 minutes of cardio a day (any exercise that raises your heart rate to 70-85% of your maximum, i.e. Jogging, swimming, stair walking) and reducing your calorie intake by 10% (i.e. 1800 instead of 2000)

Every person has enough time to exercise, with the exception of a few. I can guarantee you spend more than 2 hours a day doing something pointless. If you really want to lose the weight, just take 30 minutes of your day to do it! You can lose up to 2lbs a week doing this. It really is that easy!

How can a teen girl safely lose weight?

I am a 13 year old girl, 5 ft 4 in and 146 pounds. According to my doctor, I am slightly overweight, and it would probably be better for me to lose about 10 pounds. Now, I exercise regularly, and I eat pretty healthy, so I’m not sure how much of my weight is actually fat. I’m not the most athletic, but I’m not out of shape either- I do well when I play tennis. I have a taller and broader frame than other girls my age. So I don’t consider myself unhealthy, but I’d like to be even more fit and drop a few pounds. Please understand that I am NOT doing this for cosmetic purposes, I just want to keep myself healthy. Right now I’m aiming for 130 pounds, but 125 or 120 would be even better.

How can I lose weight safely and relatively easily? I can make simple changes to my diet, but nothing extreme. As far as exercise goes, I have gym class 2-3 times a week, I play tennis 6 hours a week, and I can fit in a 15-20 minute exercise routine or jog daily. Right now, I’ve started by cutting out all junk food, eating more fruit and vegetables, drinking more water, and avoiding very oily and salty foods. I get 8 1/2 hours of sleep daily, I never drink sugary drinks or coffee, I never eat fast food, and I eat three meals a day.

Are healthy habits enough to lose weight, or do I actually need to start working out? Could anyone recommend some exercises for me to do? How much weight is healthy to be losing in a week? Advice is appreciated. Please no rude comments. Thanks!

Losing weight very fast allows you to gain weight very fast afterwards if you dont do it the healthy way. Its a good thing youre not willing to take diet pills since they can have permenant effect on your heart, muscles and sometimes even sex cells.

Start, by setting an achievable goal for your weight loss. This way, once you loose the amount of weight you wanted to, you have something to feel happy about and this can be a good motivation. After that, Set another goal. My point is, Dont aim to loose a hundred pounds all at once.

Remember dont starve yourself. Monitor your calorie intake. Eat. But decrease the amount you eat.
Also, Know your metabolism (The amount of calories you burn). If you know its going to be a heavy day and you are going to run around and work hard, then eat more. But if your having a day off and youre planning to stay home and not do much, then eat less.

Never miss any meal. Especially breakfeast. People who dont eat breakfeast end up being so much hungrier for lunch and overeat. Thus, eat breakfeast, lunch and dinner but never snack in between. Its a terrible habbit which will make you obese.

Before you start your diet, get a notebook and write every single thing you eat in one regular day and write the amount of calories they contain. Dont forget the small things like a spoonful of sugar etc. Anyways, this allows you to easily see your extra intake. Go over the list and decide which foods to cut out or reduce.

Cutting calories is usually a lot easier than you might think. For example, that daily tall latte in the morning may pack 500 calories. Since a pound of flab (lost or gained) is roughly equivalent to 3,500 calories, replacing that rich beverage with black coffee can help you lose a pound a week. Other easy cuts include salad dressing, soda pop, candy, and butter.
Look for healthy, delicious meals online or in your cookbooks, and create a menu for the week. Make sure that your meal plan reduces your total calorie intake.

Drink plenty of water. Adequate water is essential for health, and a great many people simply don’t get enough. What’s more, if you’re chronically dehydrated, your body will retain water in unflattering places, so if you make sure to get plenty of fluids you can start visibly trimming down in as little as a day. Remember, the more you exercise, the more water you’ll need. Drink one glass of water before your meal; it will help digestion and also to get the sensation of fullness in your stomach that will keep you from overeating; that in combination with eating slowly, will allow you to stop eating when you are satisfied, not when you already ate too much (If you eat too fast you can get full, even bloated but still be hungry) .

Exercise :
Perform low impact aerobic activities. Moderate aerobic workouts incorporating brisk walking, cycling, aerobic machines, or swimming not only burn calories they also keep your heart healthy. Swimming is great, especially if you are quite overweight or have joint problems, because you can get the same benefits of running typically burning even more calories with much less stress on your joints. Try to get at least 30-40 minutes of aerobic exercise at least three or four days per week.

Try to get iron tablets from the pharmacy and have one once day with a full stomach. It increases blood flow and metabolism. You’ll be needing that since youre going to be working hard.

Rest properly. This means not only taking at least 24-48 hours between strength training the same muscles, and taking 1-2 days off from exercising each week; it also means knowing how much sleep you need, since sleep deficiency impairs your ability to lose fat.

Sometimes keeping a food diary can help. Sometimes we don’t remember how much we have snacked on during the day. The food diary can help you see if you are snacking excessively or help you see a bad habit.

If snacking is your problem you can look into a couple of options. You can cut down on your snacking or plan for healthier snacks. Don’t drastically change your diet unless you know that you can stick with it. Otherwise you just gain all of the weight back because you go back to old habits. Just change a little at a time. Try having two “healthy meals” a week. Something as simple as having grilled food, instead of something fried.

Also, to lose weight you really need to do some type of exercise. Find something that you enjoy doing. You will be more likely to stick with it. Maybe walking, swimming, yoga, dance, aerobics. Just whatever you find interesting. If you bore easily you may want to try doing more than one thing. For instance, walking with friends on Monday and Wednesday, yoga on Tuesday and Thursday. The next week try dance on Mon. And wed. And aerobics or Tues. And Thurs.. You just have to find what works for you. The most important thing is to keep it fun and interesting. Take time and try some new things!

Arms are easy…push-ups…just that easy. The closer the hands the more it works the triceps. …this will help you tone, but reasonable diet and exercise will help you lose the excess weight.
