What are some tips for weight loss for teens?

I am an overweight teen, a 190 pound 15 year old, and don’t want to go on a traditional diet, but would like to make some healthy lifestyle choices to help with weight loss. Me and my best friend have decided to go to a local gym 4 times a week for 2 hours and swim every friday in the summer. What tips can you give me about easy changes to help me lose weight. PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!

I have lost 40 lbs. In 3 months and I know this will work. Eat small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, eat your last meal 2-3 hours before you go to sleep. Do not starve yourself or your body will go into survival mode where anything you eat will be turned into FAT. This will help you a lot but if you want more results you can exercise 3-4 days a week, include weight training and especially cardio (walking especially running). If you set your mind to lose the weight you will lose it and when you start seeing how good you look you’ll want to keep going.

Can you give me some quick and simple tips on losing weight?
I don’t have a lot of time, at most 30 minutes a day to exercise nor do I have a lot of money to spend on fruit and veggies, I have some, but not heaps.

Put Benefiber into a bottle of water and drink that 2 to 3 bottles a day… If you want you can addd some lipton sugar free iced tea mix to it. The increased fiber will help you lose weight and feel full

No fast food restaurants ever !
Lots of salads; lots of fruits and vegetables.
Drink at least 8 very large glasses of water every single day.
No candy, cake, cookies, pies, potato chips, etc.

What weight loss tips do you have?

My goal is to start working out tomorrow and I really only need to lose 30 pounds to be at a healthy weight. So my questions are:
1) What machines do you recomend and how long should I work out for on my first day?
2) How often should I up my work out time?
3) What foods should I avoid?
4) How long will it take roughly to lose 30 pounds?
5)I’m thinking that because I’m 23 and not really over weight it will be easy to lose 30 pounds or am I kidding myself?
5) Any other advice you have for me (a soon to be former couch potato) would be greatly accepted.

From memory, body 4 life recommends small meals, maybe 5 to 6 a day. Only good carbs, like whole wheat bread, yogurt, bake potato’s. Good protein like fat-free cottage cheese, grilled or boiled chicken, tuna in water, all natural peanut butter, turkey meat. Two or three portions of fruit and veggies a day.

The work out regimen was upper body one day, aerobic the next, lower body the next, aerobic the next for six days. One day off. It was five sets of weights in a progression format (i.e. 8lbs 10 times, 10 lbs 8 times, etc.), and interval aerobics. It is a good book. I never could stick with it to gain muscle. You can try reading dr.john berardi too. He seems like he knows what he is talking about in his newsletters and a book he co-authored.

I want to look good for my solider coming home from Germany for the first time in a year, longest time we’ve been apart :(, in july…. I can not procrastinate any longer.

You’re normal weight – the MOST you should loose is 5 pounds – no more. I am one inch shorter than you, and weigh 119 – so you should be a little heavier than me.

Dancing uses up a lot of energy, so I think your exercise is great – and it’s a good thing you drink water instead of soda. Soda is unhealthy.

When you eat out, try to choose the healthier foods – avoid foods with lots of fat or sugar in them. DO eat meat, soup, and other high-calorie foods during the day, but in the evening, try to stick to a light salad, some yogurt, or some fruit. Also, avoid eating after 7.

Other than loosing just a few pounds, you should be fine 🙂 You get your exercise and drink healthy drinks. 🙂

Health and weight loss do not go hand-in-hand. Yes, if you are overweight, then weight loss can be one step towards better health. In your case, however, you are at the very lowest weight you can be without being underweight. In fact, you are slightly underweight as it is, with a BMI of 18.3.

If your goal is to be healthier, then I will have to advise against losing weight. If you do lose weight, even only a couple pounds, you will actually be damaging your health by causing yourself to be even more underweight.

I don’t think you need any weight loss tips right now. It would be much healthier for you to gain a few pounds than to lose an ounce. If you truly are working to achieve better health, then I recommend you focus on eating three healthy, balanced meals every day, and get in at least thirty minutes of exercise. In addition, if you’re drinking 8 glasses of water per day, you will be well on your way to superb health.

Your weight is already very satisfactory, hopefully you’re aware of that. Be healthy! 🙂

I gained 33lbs during my pregnancy.

After baby was a different story, I was not taking care of myself like I should and I was actually heavier not pregnant then being pregnant.

This summer, I realized that I had to do something. My daughter was almost two years old. So I woke up one day and decided to join Weight Watchers. It was a huge eye opener. You learn portion control, healthy habits and my favorite “it is ok to waste”. I started June 1st. I lost 42lbs by August 31st. I watched what I ate and went walking every night. I cut out pop immediately and eating out. I discovered out of all fast food Chipotle is the most healthy. With no sour cream or cheese and eating only half it is only 6 points! Which is great for a meal. I would check out Weight Watchers online, they have a program for breast feeding mothers. It is also better to watch what you eat and be healthy then not care, so I would not listen to previous answers.

My weight limit is 5lbs i dont have function of my rite arm i just recently had surgery…so wat would be good easy workouts till im not restricted on what i do?

Tons of water (10 glasses a day) and watermelon (usually less than 90 calories each serving)
But instead of eating less, the trick it to eat more. Atleast 5 small meals a day of 3 big meals and 1 or 2 snacks. I dont really know about exercise though. GOOD LUCK! 😀

A piece of fruit would be much healthier as a snack than Special K bar – lower in calories, fat and sugar or plain non-fat yogurt with fruit in it (Read the nutrition though some yogurts are high in sugar)

For breakfast you can have plain non-fat yogurt with fruit in it. I’d try something filling though like Oatmeal or whole meal toast (400g pack) with egg whites or a banana. (Avoid margarine or butter)

I’ve read it has sugar in it so maybe avoid it.

What’s a good supplement(shake, pill, whatever) to stop hunger and aid weight loss after a workout?

Right now i’m taking something called afterglow euphoria. but i really don’t know much about all those sorts of things.

After a workout i’m usually hungry but i don’t always have the time or supplies to make a healthy meal. i don’t want to drink any slimfast or special k stuff because it tastes like crap. so something easy and tasty and filling that will help my muscles recover and aid weight loss.

FYI…. i know there is no magic anything to make me lose weight. i’m exercising and eating healthy. all i’m looking for is something for post-workout.
EDIT: water only helps with recovery and does not replenish muscles with energy. also it does not satisfy real hunger. plz do not suggest it
