How many calories do you need to eat to lose 2-3 pounds a week?

I’m on a diet, and I figure around 1000 and 45 mins exercise three times a week at a gym is ok… what do you think? also, do you have any good weight loss tips?

A pound of fat contains 3200 calories. 2 pounds would be 6400 & three pounds would be 9600.

Note that you’ll commonly see a notation of 3500 calories per pound rather than the 3200 that I list. However, if you read the lable on a package of butter, cooking oil, lard, or any other 100% fat in the store, every last one of them calculates 3200 calories per pound.

The number of calories that you consume per day depends on your weight (the more weight you carry around, the more calories you burn) and the amount of exercise you perform. If you are not very active, you might only burn 1500 calories per day. If you are quite active, it might be 2500 per day.

If you only burn 1500 calories per day, then you would only be able to eat 1500 X 7 = 10500 calories per week to maintain your current weight. If you want to lose 3 pounds per week, then you can only eat 10500 – 9600 = 900 calories in an entire week. That’s only 8.6% of your current intake.

However if you burn 2000 calories per day & you’re willing to settle for a 2 pound weight loss per week, then the math is 2000 X 7 = 14000
to maintain your weight & 14000 – 6400 = 7600 calories per week (that’s 1085 calories per day).

You can see that a bit of exercise & a reasonable weight loss target will be easier to achieve than an aggressive weight loss target with little exercise.

What are the best machines to use at the gym for trying to lose weight?

Alright, I’m 5’6 and 190 lbs I want to start going to the gym. I’ve already lost 7lbs in the past 2 weeks by just doing my own thing, but I figure going to gym on a consistent basis will be better and will help me lose weight quicker… So are there any specific machines that I should use? I don’t want to try and gain muscle because that would be stupid. I just want to lose weight.

im 22 and weigh over 15stone im 5ft 5 and im a size 20. This is the fattest i have ever been and i feel so ugly and disgusting, i found a photo from when i was 19 and i looked so pretty on it i feel like im not that person anymore and feel like that its so unattainable to ever be that person again, ive always struggled with my weight but ive never been this fat. Im 23 in May and desperatley need to lose weight before this, although im not stupid and i know im not going to lose that much in that short a space of time. Ive been to all the slimming clubs and even the doctors but its not working, i used to make myself sick and really feel like im gonna do it again because i just dont lose weight quick enough on them, i cant afford to go to the gym and feel like people are laughing at the fat cow trying to lose weight if i go running then get puffed out after such a short space, i dont want to hear about crash diets are bad, i want to hear about crash diets that will give results.

Yeah you will loose weight on a crash diet but as soon as you come off it you will put all the weight back on.

If you want to do it the sensible way(the only way that will work and be permenant) . You need to eat healthy food like fresh fruit and veg, carbs and protein. Don’t skip meals because it will only make you hungry and binge on bad foods. Eat one main meal of breakfast, lunch and dinner and if you feel hungry between those times snack of healthy snacks like fruit.

Never miss breakfast as it is the most important meal of the day and really sets you up for the day ahead. If you miss breakfast your body goes into starvation mode and hangs onto the fat and it will also make you binge later on.

Drinking lots of water helps keeps your energy levels up, makes your skin nice and clear, takes away bad mood swings, improves concentration and helps you loose weight.

Exercise is really important as it helps you burn calories. You sound unfit so if you start running you will get puffed out in a short pace of time.You need to get fit to be able to run. Start walking in the park for an hour and once you feel fitter start power walking( a form of fast walking) and gradually build up your fitness. Include walking into your daily life. Walk everywhere. Walk up the stairs to your flat instead of the lift, up the stairs at work/college/university, get off earlier on the bus etc.

You’re 23, you should be out enjoying yourself and feeling good about yourself. Its such a shame not to do anything about your weight if its making you so unhappy.

I know you said you went to the doctor about your weight, but how about going to the doctor and tell him/her that you have made yourself sick in the past and sometimes feel like doing it, maybe they can recommend you to a specialist.

Lots of people have been your weight and managed to loose weight, so it’s possible for you to do it to. Don’t give up whatever you do and if you end up binging on some bad food don’t beat yourself up about it, everyone has bad days.

Maybe not unhealthiest but quickest way, besides dieting and exercising which I already do. I know the risk I just need to know ways you or people you know lost weight quick in 3 or 4 mos. The most you’ve lost in a month or all together…again I do exercise daily and watch what I eat I’m just in major help to lose it quick quick.

If I’m dieting and exercising trying to lose weight and then I get pregnant, do I have to stop?

I know they advise against losing weight while pregnant, but if I’m overweight before I get pregnant and I’ve been dieting and exercising for several months before I get pregnant, do I have to change what I’m doing, or can I just keep doing it because my body is used to it?

You need to focus on a healthy diet of fresh whole foods to both lose weight and be in peak condition for a healthy pregnancy.
Avoid as much processed and refined foods as possible. I’m not a purist, cut back as much as you can.
Having been there it is really tough to maintain weight with the little ones around. It just seems better to eat that perfectly good food you just prepared for the kids that they didn’t touch.
That is how stay at homes load lots of extra calories.
Focus on fresh or whole high fiber foods and you will be golden.

for at least a minute a day and stretching exercises for 20 reps on legs and then stretch arms out too, maybe you can actually lose weight in legs while pregnant?

I don’t think you can actually LOSE weight while pregnant… Perhaps you shouldn´t focus on losing weight, because chances are you will fail — It´s better if you focus on NOT gaining much weight.
And about your legs, it is very common for pregnant women to have some swelling in the legs.. It will go away once you give birth!
But it is definitely a good thing to exercise!

whats some good healthy ways to lose weight while pregnant? im officially starting to eat healthy. fruits vegetables no more fast food (my main craving has been double cheeseburgers and french fries from mcdonalds) ( i know very bad) anyways so what are some better things i could be doing. i know i cant do any hardcore workouts,but i figure i could go walking and eat healthy.

Im 32 1/2 weeks and Ive gained almost 50 pounds too. Despite it being unhealthy, Im just trying to indulge as much as I can now, because once he’s born its going to be hardcore dieting. Walking and eating healthy are great ideas though. Walking is pretty difficult for me though, I cant even walk around walmart without getting exhausted or lightheaded. But if I would of been healthy and walking the whole pregnancy it’d probably be a piece of cake. Try to enjoy your pregnancy and not worry too much about weight. Just do small changes, like cutting out fast food. Good luck!
