Can you lose weight without strenuous exercise?

I want to lose about 20 lbs in about a month. I am 12, about 5 ft, and weigh 110 lbs. Can I do this by simply eating less? Like, can I lose weight without having to go on a tredmill or something like that. What are some good exercises to do?

I checked it up on-line and a 5 foot twelve year old who weighs 110 is at a healthy weight. You have a BMI(body mass index) of 21.5. And that’s completely healthy! And unhealthy BMI would be over wither over 25( which means you are overweight) or under 18 which means that you are underweight. So if you eat normal portions and drink a lot of water you will continue to stay at a healthy weight. I suggest that you may want to take a sport like soccer if you want to have some good excessive. Or offer your mom to take your siblings or the dog on a walk.

It’s because you’re eating only one meal a day.
You use 2000 calories a day just living, then use more calories to move. The maximum calorie deficit you should have a day is 1000 calories. This is the largest deficit you should have while on a weight loss program is 1000 calories because it’s large enough that you will lose weight at a fast rate but not slow down you resting metabolic rate. It can also slow down when you don’t eat a regular times during the day. The reason you don’t want to slow down your metabolism is because a faster metabolism will burn more calories when you’re not exercising, and when you do exercise it will increase the amount of calories you burn afterwards, making it so much easier to keep the weight off. Because you’re only eating one meal a day which has around 300-400 calories? And exercising you have a deficit of about 2000 calories a day and your body thinks it’s starving. It’s curently eating your muscle and reproductive system and holding onto fat for as long as it can and will only start depleating fat stores when your muscles are too weak.
You need to eat around 1500 calories a day, panned out over 3 meals and two snacks. Eat your meals at the same time everyday. Eat mostly vegetables and wholegrain breads, rice and cereals and still allow yourself one serve of lean meat or high protein alternative and two serves of low fat dairy products a day. Good snacks include a piece of fruit, a handful of unsalted nuts or a few wholegrain crackers with low-fat dip.
I know that counting calories is annoying, but you can go on www.calorieking.com and they have the nutritional content of almost every food. Makes it a lot easier than keeping all the packaging aside.

I know when you lose weight, that you can’t just lose it in certain spots. But I find when I lose weight I only lose it in my stomach. How can I help get some of the weight off of my arms and legs? How to lose weight when you are at a healthy Weight?

It’s a known fact that overweight people can lose weight quicker than people who have a lower body weight. However I would like to lose weight though. (Purely Cosmetic reasons) I already have a healthy body weight a very healthy diet and appropriate moderate exercise for the amount of calories I eat.

My question is how can I go from 113 lbs to about 100 lbs in a healthy way? (5’3″)

How much weight can I lose in two months?

I’m planning on doing an hour and a half workout 3 times a week, eat healthier/less, for two months. My goal is to lose 15 pounds in that two months. However, its been a week since, and I’ve been losing 2 pounds, then after eating lunch or dinner, gaining that 2 pounds back. I feel like I’ll never be able to lose weight!! Is it even possible to lose 15 pounds in two months?

It depends on how much you weight now. If you are just overweight (not bigger) then it will probably be harder to lose the 15 lbs but if you are obese or above it will come off faster if you work hard and eat right.

I don’t know if you have seen the she “the biggest loser” but sometimes they will lose up to ten pounds in a week. That is because they are very large and they are also working out about 6 hours a day and they have the Registered Dietitian and fitness instructors. So on that show it is definitely possible but if you are doing it on your own be careful….here is something for you to think about:

1 lb = 3500 calories
if you can burn 500 calories a day x 7 days = 3500 calories (one pound)

Here is how I would recommend you to cut the 500 calories daily….burn 250 calories with a good workout. Get your heart rate up and you will burn the calories in less time. The other 250 calories a day I would cut it out of what you are eating. Think about how much you usually eat and then try to find a way to cut back by 250 and honestly that isn’t really very much.

What you should do is change your eating habit to a healthier one and start exercising (people tell you this over and over because it WORKS!).

Disclaimer: I don’t recommend any diet to you or anyone, but I just wanted to share my experience. You should talk to your nutritionist/doctor before making any drastic changes to your body.

What I did was I went on an “eating-only-corn-flakes” diet. XD I lost the weight really quickly (~25 lbs). After a 2-3 weeks of eating only corn flakes with regular milk for breakfast/lunch/dinner (NO snacks whatsoever). (You can try it with skim, 1%, or 2% milk to lose even more weight.) I went off the diet and started eating normal, and healthy foods, with A LOT of water and tons of fruits. I’m able to keep off the weight I’ve lost for ~6 years now. At summer camp, I’ve also went on a cereal-salad-and-skim milk “diet”. For breakfast, I would only eat grain cereal with skim milk and drink another glass. For lunch and dinner each day, I had only a salad and two glasses of skim milk per meal. Camp was only 5 days, but I lost a considerable amount of weight for my father to notice my weight loss. XD

Currently, I’ve been exercising. I have an “air-stepper” at home, and I get on it for 15 minutes each day to get my cardio workout. I take my pulse at 5 min. Intervals for 15 minutes to see if I’m improving. ^_^ Then, I get on my Total Gym and start working on my arms and legs (pulling, pushing, etc.). To tone my abs, I do 200 crunches (I lay on my Total Gym at an incline, so it’s VERY easy and no back strain!); they are much easier than sit-ups. ^_^ Lastly, I do 100 of those “standing-up” crunches. The lay down crunches and the standing up crunches that I do gave me the flat stomach I have now. ^____^ Very happy with the results. You can do as many as your body can tolerate for ONE day and feel your stomach flatter immediately afterwards (at least for me)! It’s incredible!

If you do not have gym equipment, just jumping around and running place for 15-30 minutes will get you your cardio workout. Eat yogurt, fruits, and other health foods. Drink tons of water and your daily dosage of milk. ^_^

Diet has to begin in your head. And you already started to think about your nutrition. That’s an important step. It is too easy just to make a magazine-diet for 2-3 weeks and loose some weight. Well, you’ll have to cut back A LOT! Why don’t you try the 5-4-3-2-1 Diet? It was designed to last about two weeks to get off some weight quick! It’s actually pretty easy to do whether you’re eating at home or in a restaurant. Just be sure that the foods you choose to eat are very nutritious. You don’t want your metabolism to get lazy. Drink plenty of water–get rid of soda, even diet for the next two weeks. You’ll also be more successful if you dump the salt for that amount of time. Good luck!

Your goal should be a healthy body, not a number of pounds! Everyone looks good at a different weight. A short person may look really good at about 112 pounds, but a person of a taller height would just look unhealthy. Be your own trainer and nutritionist, the basic rules to losing weight are no soda, no fast food, lots of chicken, fish, fresh (not canned that’s bad) fruits and vegies, whole wheat stuff, yogurt. Not so many cakes and donuts and cookies. Basic common sense for eating, you just need to enforce it. Get all the bad stuff out of the house right away, just toss it or give it away while your still motivated. No alcohol and no smoking if that applies. Lots of water, 3-4 liters a day, not all at once, but spread it out. Its really easy to down a liter or two while your watching tv or on the computer. Also drink some after you eat the bigger meals of the day, it helps your body pick out the nutrients in food when your food is more spread apart. Don’t think that sports drinks can replace water, the only time you need to drink them right after a workout, besides that just stick with water. These rules may be hard to adapt to at first so start with cutting out the things you know you can live without. Then work from there. Remember these are perfect eating habits, it can take you a while to work into it. If you know you can’t live without your one treat a day, don’t fight it by trying to eat something else, just eat it and make sure that’s the only one you cheat on a day. Otherwise you’ll get depressed and quit. Another important point is getting the right amount of sleep every night. You need 8-9 hours of sleep each night for your body to function correctly. This is an important factor of losing weight. Set up a routine for yourself and go to bed at about the same time each night.
As for exercise, lots of cardio. Find something you like. If you have never exercised much before, start with walking 30 minutes a day at a brisk pace. Move on to different terrains that include hills and increase the time spent. After a week or two, try jogging the route. No matter what find an activity you enjoy. Walking to jogging is just an example, try hiking, rollerblading, biking. Once you get into a regular routine, if your not happy with the level of difficulty, try signing up with a gym. Spinning, pilates or kickboxing classes are great. It will also introduce you to working with weights. Talk to a trainer for instruction before using any weights. A cheap investment is a balance ball, it works you stomach while your just sitting on it, like at your computer and its great for posture.
