Linda asks…

Any tips on getting and staying motivated to reach my weight loss goals?

Last summer I started a weight loss program and was really excited about the prospect of being fit and healthy while I’m still young. Within the first 2 months, I lost almost 20lbs and wasn’t craving chocolate and sweets and other things like that, which I normally crave all the time. Then I went to Chicago for the weekend, and it’s been all downhill from there. I completely lost all my motivation and I think my cravings are even worse now than they were before I started the program last year! I just turned 25 and want to get healthy and fit so that I can better enjoy my life. I’m open to any advice or words of wisdom that might help me get back on track. Thanks in advance!
Ok, I’m not looking for people to tell me what to do to lose weight, because I already know that part. I’m asking about how to MOTIVATE myself to keep it up.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Congrats on working towards a fitter and healthier lifestyle. I don’t have any fancy plans but when I lost some weight and started an exercise program a few years ago I found that sticking to a strict program all the time was very hard. I kept a record of what exercise I did on a calendar (for me it was treadmill so I recorded time and kilometres) It was amazing to watch my improvement and it kept me motivated. With food I aimed for 5 days a week that I ate well – lots of veges etc and no treats. But I let myself have 2 days where I might eat out or splurge. I recorded this and the days might change depending on if I went out mid week or weekend. I found this worked as I could have treats but could also tell from my records how often I was having them. Good luck hope this helps.

Carol asks…

Is it better to do the workout programs on treadmills or just run?

You know how treadmills have “weight loss programs” or “aerobic programs“? Will you lose more weight faster by doing one of those or just simply running on a treadmill?

weight loss cardiff answers:

OK, ignore the spammer above me. Those gimmicks never work and prey on peoples desire to lose weight easily, if they do work, it will be short term and the weight will come back as soon as you stop.

Either will work, the programs might push you a little harder than you’ll push yourself though. Just make sure to spend no less than 30 minutes on the treadmill, at a speed that will keep your heart rate up steadily. Spend no more than 1 hour on a treadmill either. This includes a 5 minute warm up and a 5 minute cool down. You need to make sure to do this when you run too. For weight loss you also need to watch your diet as well. That means eating enough just as it means not eating too much. If you don’t get enough calories your body will burn muscle instead of fat.

EDIT: Shaun is ok, the first answerer is the spammer, in case no one noticed.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Betty asks…

What is a good online weight loss program that will help me lose weight fast?

I am 13 and 155 pounds. I need to know a good online weight loss program that will help me lose thirty pounds before September. If you have any more questions just email me at fifa_samer96@yahoo.com

weight loss cardiff answers:

I have been through it all and know what’s it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can’t be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I’ve worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can’t eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising…

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it’s good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It’s so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I’ve found a great addition to help any one out, it’s a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don’t get all crazy on me and say diet pills don’t work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn’t meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It’s an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace dot com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it’s the best pill I’ve tried and I’ve tried cupboards full. Now this doesn’t mean you have to follow my foot steps but I’ve successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.

Individuals involved in weight loss programs often feel fatigued, irritable, and experience headaches.

Your body becomes accustomed to your average daily caloric intake. When you begin decreasing caloric intake, additional stress is placed on your body as it attempts to adapt and become more efficient by increasing your metabolic rate. The result? Fatigue, irritability, and often times – headaches.

During this time it is more essential than ever to provide your body plentiful amounts of pure nutrients required for energy and vitality. Adequate hydration is also essential. Many energy drinks on the market contain high levels of caffeine and other known diuretics, which dehydrate your body. This places strain on your heart while additionally reducing your bodies ability to rid itself of toxins and other harmful chemicals…

Sandra asks…

How can I stop struggling with my weight loss and finally reach my weight goal?

I have been in this particular weight loss program for over 2 years now . Since then I had loss some weight but then gained it back. (twice) Also, sometimes I go thru these depression moods and will binge on sweets. I don; t know what the block is that;s hindering me from reaching my weight loss goal ; I needs to lose about half of my weight.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Eat rather small meals five or six times daily,of really healthy foods– think fruits and veggies and whole grains, take three to five short walks a day, (both will contribute to kicking up your metabolic rate), and drink more water, do not eat after 6pm.
Just don’t expect overnight miracles here, it’s just unrealistic and will set you up for failure. Quit the bathroom scale habit, go by how you feel and whether your favorite clothes are getting bigger on you…also try a handful of almonds half hour prior to eating your later in the day meals, they have something to do with appetite suppression.

Daniel asks…

Strength training in a weight loss program?

One always hears how strength training is good for a weight loss program, or how permanently switching to a better diet and incorporating strength training will add muscle and bring down the fat level.

How is this possible, though? Doesn’t the body need a surplus of caloric intake (relative to stable rate) in order to add muscles, and a deficit of calories to burn fat? How do those two elements go together?

My guess would be that eating the biggest meal of the day, with slightly more protein than usual, following a strength training session will result in a “surplus” of calories for a short “time window” (say, the 3 hours following a workout) and in that time frame, the body will actually use energy/protein to build muscle. Once one goes back to small portions, the body will once again resort to burning fat instead of building muscles.

So basically, strength training with weight loss is possible, although the strength gains will be lesser than usual, and the weight loss slower?

weight loss cardiff answers:

The only time that you need to be in a caloric surplus to add muscle is when you are at low fat percentages. However, you will need a surplus of NUTRIENTS (especially carbs and protein) to add muscle.

For example, someone who weighs 200 lbs and has 20% body fat will have a lean mass of 160 lbs and a resting metabolic rate of around 1950 calories per day.

If he eats 250 grams of carbs, 130 grams of protein, and 40 grams of fat per day, he will get adequate protein and carbohydrates while only consuming 1880 calories per day.

This will put him in a caloric deficit even when you do not factor in the calories that he will be burning from exercise. If he is lifting weights, he will be gaining muscle while slowly losing fat due to the caloric deficit.

Here is an article about muscle growth and a calorie estimator for gaining muscle while losing fat.

Also, the increased muscle from working out will burn more calories.

Anyone have success stories to tell about Hydroxycut? I started taking them yesterday and at first they made me feel a bit anxious/nervous but now on day 2 all I notice is decreated hunger… Which is good because needless snacking is part of the reason I need to shed a few pounds. I don’t plan on taking this pill longer then the 8 week recommened period but still, any stories on if it worked or didn’t work for you would be nice to hear. Thanks in advance.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I did not see any results. Jerome’s opinion – all those diet pills will work when used in combination of diet and exercise. None of those pills are magic, instant relief. I’m currently taking Lipo 6.

Lizzie asks…

got any weight loss tips or success stories?

i would love to get advice on weight loss from others that have already accomplished the weight loss challenge.. im all ears and open to any input.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hi,

I graduated high school at 240 pounds and at 5 foot 3 that made me about as round as I was tall. I was one of those overweight teenagers who ate anything and everything without any regard to the effects it was having on my own body. Therefore, I began the diet pills, which did not work; I ate the special diet foods and even began drinking diet beverages. None of this stuff worked for me, just as it does not work for millions of overweight people. Eating less did not work and I was not one to work out or even get up and do anything remotely related to exercise. I knew I would look silly and it would hurt. I never thought or really cared about the health effects this would have on me, back then.

A year ago after a successful weight loss plan, now at 120 pounds, it is a major difference. I’ve lost 30 pounds in the first month. The most significant change in my life is the amount of energy I now have and the way my clothes fit loosely. Everyone close to me and people I haven’t seen in a while are amazed and tell me that I look really good. This is a life changing experience for me although at first I was skeptical about the weight loss plan.

Our own metabolism system play a vital part in controlling the amount of body fat burned in the process of providing energy to the body.
