Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

David asks…

Can you lose fat (not weight) while pregnant?

My wife may be pregnant and is concerned with her weight. (home test is still showing neg) She has recently lost about 10 lbs and was planning on losing about 30 more. Now that we think she may be pregnant she still wants to try to lose the fat while not really really losing weight. She says she can still do this by eating healthy and walking. I am a little concerned. She will be discussing this with the Dr if she is in fact pregnant. What do you think? Has anyone done this before?

weight loss cardiff answers:

I’m in basically the same situation as your wife, and I’ve made it work. If she is pregnant, she will not need to cut her calorie intake. She needs to consume about 2000 calories a day in the first trimester and 2300 in the second and third. But as long as she does this by making healthy food choices and drinking TONS of water, she will probably see that she still loses some fat. She can also continue exercise through walking, which will build muscle and trim fat. As long as she doesn’t do anything extreme, like actually try to lose 30 pounds while pregnant, she will be fine. She can aim to gain 15-20 pounds throughout the pregnancy if she is overweight, which is fairly realistic as long as she eats healthily and exercises, as long as she doesn’t have any complications. She’ll need to double check the weight gain with her doctor to be sure it’s right for her. But I’m 21 weeks and have only gained 5 pounds, and it’s all been baby and water weight. I actually lost 10 pounds in the first trimester, so I’m still below my prepregnancy weigh, and I’m halfway through! Just don’t aim to actually move the scale…just have her try to be healthy and active, and she will gain muscle tone and lose fat. Good luck!

Sandy asks…

is it safe to lose weight while pregnant?

I’m not going to go on a massive crash diet but i am going to cut out fatty foods and try to eat healthily and exercise regularly, i don’t really want to lose weight i just want to stay the weight i am now but obviously after the baby is born i’ll be lighter.

weight loss cardiff answers:

It’s wonderful to start eating better for your baby. As long as you’re not starving yourself, you’ll be fine.
