Betty asks…
Does your metabolism slow down while your breastfeeding?
I know that your metabolism slows down while your pregnant in order for your body to suck up as many nutrients as possible. Does your metabolism also slow down while your breastfeeding for the same purpose. If so, could that explain why it’s always harder for me to lose weight while nursing?
weight loss cardiff answers:
Your metabolism doesn’t slow down period in either case, your intestines slow down the peristalsis to allow for greater absorption of nutrients but that’s not your metabolism. When nursing you have lower estrogen levels and relatively higher progesterone levels (in ratio not amount) so it is conceivable your intestines would be slower then as well but they really are not.
Why is it hard to loose weight when nursing? Notice how HUNGRY you are when nursing? It leads to eating, you get enough calories then what is coming in will equal the amount of calories going out.
Thomas asks…
Is there a way to lose weight safely while pregnant?
I know you’re supposed to gain about 25 pounds during your pregnancy, but I was wondering if its safe to lose weight, or at least continue your weight loss work-out during your first trimester. I would like to continue my efforts, but don’t want to do anything harmful. Being healthy is more important than being skinny, right? Thanks for your answers!
Oh, good point, I’m not necessarily overweight. I’m just trying to lose the last 10 pounds and tone up.
weight loss cardiff answers:
Eat smart, and healthy- just don’t diet. Exercising is fine as long as your Doctor hasn’t told you to abstain from it and you are not starting any new intense routines. Swimming or briskly walking for one hour can burn 300-400 calories and can be done safely throughout your whole pregnancy. I personally love walking and I use the Prenatal fitness DVD FitMama. Just be as healthy as you can and you should be fine.
Daniel asks…
Does working out while pregnant help the baby weight come off any faster that if you didn’t work out?
So here’s the deal. Exercising while pregnant has benefits such as stopping extra weight gain, kepping you fit, and keeping the baby healthy. Does it actually aid in weight loss after the baby is born?
What I mean is, will aperson lose weight faster after having a baby if they have been workingout the entire pregnancy as oppose to someone who never worked out? I know there are genetics and what not involved, but just wondering.
weight loss cardiff answers:
I dont know if it will help the weight fall of faster afterwards but it will keep you fit during your pregnancy and in shape to give birth I would just be careful ask your doctor what they think is an ok work out . I am 37 weeks and all she wants me to do now is walk i still sometimes do my pregnancy yoga though . Good luck:)
