Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Carol asks…

Please give some additional weight loss tips?

I have posted quite a few times on here and gotten some good answers. Here is my most recent diet plan. Just want some feedback as to if my plan sounds like it will work or if it needs some changes.
I have started SlimFast and calorie counting. I use SlimFast for breakfast and lunch and might have a small snack, and then have a normal dinner. According to multiple weight loss calculators I have used online, I need 2500 calories per day to maintain weight, 2000 to lose. Also, it said I could do 800-1000 calories for very quick weight loss but should be medically supervised. I figured I would stay around 1500. The past 2 days it has been 1600 and 1700. (I just started the diet 2 days ago). Does this sound like a good plan and how quickly do you think I’ll start losing weight?
@ Jessica; good point about the breakfast thing; but my problem with that is no one in my house eats breakfast or lunch together. Dinner is kind of “family time” and the only time a meal is cooked in the household. So, this would be a good idea if I lived alone, but not right now.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Losing 10 lbs a month is a good and safe target. Any faster weight loss is likely to be temporary only and in most cases you regain it all.

Running, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, push ups, sit ups, squats, brisk walking and power walking all help for weight loss but dieting helps more.

You can always eat negative calorie foods for weight loss and below is a list of negative calorie foods that will boost your metabolism.

Negative Calorie Fruits:
apples
cranberries
grapefruit
lemons
mangoes
oranges
pineapple
raspberries
strawberries
tangerines

Negative Calorie Vegetables:
asparagus
beets
broccoli
cabbage (green)
carrots
cauliflower
celery
Chile peppers (hot)
cucumber
dandelions
endives
garden cress
garlic
green beans
lettuce
onions
papaya
radishes
spinach
turnips

These foods don’t actually have negative calories but when you eat these foods raw or slightly cooked your body burns more calories digesting and processing them than what is in the food itself.

For a healthy weight loss add some of these foods to your diet each day. Most of them are full of healthy nutrients such as fiber, antioxidants and enzymes as well as vitamins and minerals.

Maria asks…

So according to this weight loss calculator I can reach my goal by August?!?

So I am 5″8 and 132 pounds (gained 14 pounds over exam period) and I want to be 123 pounds. I am 17 on Thursday so I just put that down instead of 16 in the weight loss calculator. I am eating 1200 calories a day and burning around 70-100 calories a day (I am new to exercising so I literally just started 3 or 4 days ago). And the results of the calculator said this:

Results

You should consume about 1,469 calories a day to reach your goal weight of 123 lbs . This is at a reasonable weight loss average of 1 lbs per week, which should be reached by August 25, 2013.

Now I wont be able to exercise as much during july but I will in August. Do you think this is reasonable? Thanks
In the options I put in that I do light exercise (lots of walking in school during the day and around 10 minutes added together of exercise)

weight loss cardiff answers:

Those weight loss calculators are complete BS. Weight loss is not a maths problem, it’s not all about the number of calories. If you get your 1469 calories per day from all sugary, processed foods you would get a much different outcome than if you got all 1469 calories from lean meats and vegetables.

Don’t worry about how many calories you’re eating, just focus on eating plenty of healthy, natural foods and you will get better results.

(Not that you even need to lose weight, you’re in a perfectly healthy weight range for your height.)

Mandy asks…

Is losing 10 lbs in 40 days considered rapid weight loss?

Is that considered rapid weight loss? Would someone be considered anorexic or having an eating disorder if they lost weight this fast by eating under 650 calories and burning calories to get rid of them too? Im 98 lbs now (5’0″) and want to get to 88 lbs.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Here’s a rule of thumb:

If you’re American, your BMI should be between 20-25. If you’re of Asian descent, it should be more or less 18.5-22.5. There are numerous BMI calculators that you can find using common search engines.

If you need to lose weight for medical reasons, lose only as much as 1-2 pounds per week. Depriving yourself of 1000 kCal per day results in weight loss of 2 pounds a week. Anything more than that is overkill. That may actually predispose you to even more disease. At 98 lbs, you’re probably not even qualified to donate blood anymore.

And remember, when you eat, half your plate should be variably colored vegetables, and the remainder should be shared by protein and carbohydrates. More carbohydrates than protein. Adjust the amount accordingly with feasible and medically acceptable targets while maintaining the same proportion.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Donald asks…

How do I define light, moderate and heavy exercise via the stationary bicycle?

I am trying to compute weight loss via the online weight loss calculator, I am 174cm or 5 feet 7 and 156 pounds and I plan to reach about 134 pounds.

weight loss cardiff answers:

We just talked about this in my exercise sport science class. Moderate activity would be you working out with a friend and being able to carry on a conversation without being out of breath. The heart rate is increased and you should break a light sweat. Therefore, light exercise is very little change in the heart rate and no sweat, and heavey exercise would be to the point of exhaustion, sweat, and working toward the max heartrate.

Donna asks…

Can someone explain the personality change that comes with weight loss?

I noticed that sometimes when people who are really overweight go through dramatic weight loss, their personalities change– and sometimes not for the better. I know two people who not only became more confident, but more cocky as well! It’s like they suddenly believed being skinny made them better than everyone else, including their old friends, and they started acting like a**holes. Do you know anyone like this?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Weight loss can give you more confidence. In fact, the case is just the reverse. Once you start gaining weight, you lose your flexibility. You have to pay extra attention to how you can overcome the handicap of having a heavy body. This lessens your confidence. And, when you start losing weight again, your confidence is revived.

Anyways, are you trying to lose weight/. In that case, the following link would help oyu. It is a weight loss calculator.

Mark asks…

How to keep weight loss even after my metabolism has slowed down?

How to keep weight loss even after my metabolism has slowed down?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Your metabolism isn’t slowing down. That’s a myth.

One of the most common myths or misunderstandings in diet, nutrition, and fitness is that metabolic rate is responsible for a person’s natural tendency toward being fat or thin or muscular. Or that metabolic rate can be changed to help lose fat or gain weight. This is not true and easy evidence of that fact can be found here —> http://www.calculator.net/bmr-calculator.html where basal metabolic rate (BMR) can be calculated with only height, weight, sex, and age. If metabolism was responsible for gaining fat or staying thin, that natural tendency would have to be included in the calculation of BMR. It’s not. In other words, a naturally fat person and a naturally skinny person of the same height, weight, sex, and age will have the same metabolic rate. There will be no difference in their metabolism which means metabolism is not really a factor in natural tendencies toward being heavy or thin.

It’s important to understand this fact because it will put an end to the frustration that comes with trying to change the metabolic rate to create a specific effect such the loss or gain of body weight, fat, or muscle. Unless you have a real medical issue, your metabolism is fine and nothing you do is going to create more than a normal temporary change in metabolic rate.

If it’s important to you to blame something for being an easy or hard gainer, then blame your parents because those propensities are inherited…genetic. Or blame your soma (body) type (ecto, endo, or mesomorph). But don’t blame your metabolism because it is nothing more than the totality of the energy exchanges which happen every second of every day as required to sustain your life given the demands of the moment.

Most people would be well advised to not even use the word metabolism as it has no real relevance to the problems of being an easy or hard gainer. It makes no more sense to think about your metabolism in regard to diet or exercise than it does to think about your car’s horsepower when pressing on the gas pedal to go or the brake pedal to stop. If you’re concerned with losing fat, gaining weight, building muscle, or maintaining, follow good diet, exercise, and fitness strategies and your metabolism will take care of itself.

For more about metabolism, go here —> http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/metabolism/WT00006

It may seem difficult keeping fat gone but that’s only because you can’t continue with bad eating habits and expect that fat not to return. If rebound fat is your concern, just keep your calories down with smaller portion sizes and proper food selections.

Good luck and good health!

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Laura asks…

Are calorie calculators accurate for weight loss? Has anyone tried them and found them to be dead-on?

For instance the ones that tell you:
If you weigh “a” and you want to weigh “b” and your bmi is “c”, then you need to take in “x” calories per day in order to achieve your goal.

Also, if so, Is there a particular website’s calculator you trust?

weight loss cardiff answers:

There is way too much individual variation in metabolism and digestive efficiency for any of them to be all that accurate. On top of that, you have the error in measuring your caloric intake.

Robert asks…

Can I really lose weight by just cutting calories?

I used a weight loss calculator that said if I consumed 1200 – 1300 cal per day I would lose 2 pds a week. So I can eat whatever I want, as long as it doesn’t go over those calories? Like today I only have on meal, but it consists of a stromboli and a Mountain Dew.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Yes however it is really hard to stay within those caloric amounts. But it can be done.

Carol asks…

Why am I losing more weight than the weight loss calculators predicted?

Before I came up with my weight loss plan, I utilized about 5-6 different weight loss calculators online, all of which asked me for my sex, age, height, weight, activity level, and the amount of calories per day that I planned to consume. I put everything in, and said that I would be eating about 1000 calories per day. All of the calculators told me that I would lose about a pound a week. Even the other types of calculators that asked for your weight goal and time told me that I would have to eat about 1000 calories per day to reach my weight loss goal.

So why am I losing 4 pounds a week on this diet plan? I’m not being more physically active.

weight loss cardiff answers:

It sounds like you are basically starving yourself. A lot of your initial weight loss may be water. Also, those calculators may be telling you what is a healthy and sustainable weight loss rate. It’s hard to say, really. If you continue to lose weight at this rate, I would talk with a Doctor.
Also, it really is in your best interest to start incorporating some low-impact activities, like walking for 30 minutes every day.

Question about calories and weight loss?

I entered my weight/height/age into a kind of Weight loss Calculator and it told me in order to loose weight:

” You will need to burn 614 KCal/day more than you consume. ”

Does that mean if I eat say 1400 calories, I have to burn 2014 calories?
LOL well I wanted to see, so I can just burn X amount of calories skipping rope 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

No just burn 614 calories making your calorie intake at the end of the day 1214 making you lose weight.
