weight loss losing fat and gaining muscles?
OK hears the run down im obese but my body looks normal the only thing is that i have a gut that pokes out and man jugs. But my gut doesn’t over lap or any thing my legs and arms are normal with a little bit of fat on both. i recently started going to the gym and hears what i do first i start off on the treadmill for an hour every 20 min i rest. i start my speed off on 2.5 and every 5 min i rise it 5 more and end off with 4.0 now does that help me burn calories or do i have to start off a little faster ? after that i work on my gut doing knee lifts and a crunch machine i do each of this work out 10 times in a set of 5 totaling 50 times how long after would i see results ? and after i hit the weights doing everything possible using dumb bells using the bar with weight on the end and here is the weight i use when working out( 20, 25, 30, 40 ) with these numbers can i build a lot of muscle and also does lifting weights burn calories ? and the reason im doing all of this is because i just turned 18 and recently tried joining the U.S. Marine Corp and they said i was to overweight being that im 5’9 and last time i check i was 220 so im trying to lose this weight because all i ever wanted to do was serve since i was a little kid. Im working my ass off because all my years growing up till i was 6 i was fat and a huge U.S. Army supporter till age 16 when i first learned about the Marines watching Generation Kill and how hardcore and disciplined they are and how they are marksmen with almost any weapon also the respect and camaraderie that comes along with being a Marine.( i know was going of track there ). But what i really want to know is with the information i provided can i lose my weight by the time summer hits June 2011 because that’s the year and time i graduate high school? also im trying to cut back on eating habits witch is easy ( Ive been through it before) the only thing i cant give up is juice and soda will this effect me and how? if yes how much should i drink a day 1or 3 cups a day ? also please give me your advise on what to eat work out tips and diet and if your a Marine and you so happen to come across this question please give me advise on preparing my self for boot

Hey man, you sound desperate. Here’s what I’ve got for you. Firstly, this juice thing and soda thing, you’ve got to knock it on the head. Do you know how much refined sugar those things have? Look, you can ween yourself off of it day by day, but you’ve got to want it. If you need to drink juice, water it down with some of those flavored waters. If you need to drink a soda, try those diet ones, Pepsi Max is great.
I was in your shoes back in 1975 when I wanted to join the British armed forces the Parachute Regiment, I dreamt of it since I was a kid . When I went for my medical the doctor told me I had to lose weight, nearly 2 stone. I was gutted, and I fixed it in my mind that I was going to get fit and sign up and nothing was going to stop me. In those days there wasn’t much advice on diet and exercise as there is today, you just got to figure out what’s best for YOU. Well I worked hard for six weeks and lost nearly 2 stone and reached my target weight for enlistment. When I went back for my medical the doctor couldn’t believe I’d lost the weight so quickly. If I can do YOU can do it, “hoo ha” as the marines say.
I went on to serve for 4 great years and left with an exemplary record. So what should you do? First of all you’ve got to get in the right mindset. You want to join the Marines and YOU WILL! From the information you’ve given you don’t seem too fat and by summer 2011 YOU’LL do it. You’re already half way there with your gym work. Be careful though, you may be doing too much, it’s not quantity but quality you’re after. Back in February 2010 I needed to lose weight (I’m 51 now) and it wasn’t easy until I found out about a guy called Jon Benson. Jon is a health guru and author. He taught me all the Do’s and dont’s about losing body fat. I’ve now lost over 40 pounds of fat and I feel great.
In the source box I’ll give you a link to my blog and a link to one of Jon’s best selling books “7 Minute Muscle”. You’ll love it, my nephew used it to pack on some added muscle before he went to Afghanistan, he’s in the Dragoon Guards. Here’s another tip and it may sound a bit wacky, I thought so until I tried it. About 20 minutes a day I meditate visualizing myself fit and healthy strong and virile and believe me it helps. Just pop on an ipod and listen to some calming music, I like to listen to waves crashing on rocks or rain falling. You can buy mp3 downloads of these from Itunes. Well, I hope my advice helps and remember, focus, you’re gonna be the meanest, roughest, toughest marine your drill sergeant has ever seen. HOO HA! Go get um buddy.
Good luck
Colin

What are ways to get a man to know I am interested in him without seeming desperate?
I’am interested in a guy who is a recruitor for the Marines. I don’t want to come across pushy/desperate/overbearing or like Im easy or a whore. I am not good at flirting. I dont want to risk scaring him off for good and not standing a chance to at least be his friend. I am losing weight and have literally lost 60 pounds since Febrauary. He is on my facebook page but we haven’t had any contact with eachother. I have thought about emailing him to ask him for tips on weight loss but he already sees that I am friends with other marines. I have thought about randomly asking him a queston but dont want him to think Im stupid or lame for asking. Any ideas on a way to catch his attention and get him to pay attention to me more? Most of the time I feel like Marine Men judge me for being overweight~ but like I said I am losing weight now. It just isn’t coming off fast enough which my Dr wants me to not have it come off fast.
This Marine recruitor is very good looking~ I feel like even if I was skinnier already that I still wouldnt stand a chance with him. I am trying to improve me from the inside out.
He lives in the same state as me but in a different town. any ideas?

Next time you go out with your other marine friends, maybe you should ask him to come out with all of you. If in person contact isn’t the easiest thing for you to maneuver, then you can send him a facebook message. A great way to show interest in a guy, is to ask him about himself. Ask him questions about his interests and stuff and see where the conversation goes.
Lisa asks…
Getting rid of my beer gut/man boobs, any tips or input on my plan?
Now I am 5’8 and weigh about 160 lbs, which isn’t much for a male, or even considered overweight, but I am not a muscly guy, so I would say I have an easy 10 lbs on my stomach/man boobs of beer greatness.
I will also note, that I do not want to loose any of the muscle mass I do have.
Now I have never really had to diet or work out a lot(outside of job requirements) so I am new to this.
So I was thinking a high nutrition/low carbs diet, you know, the food that sucks, and I was going going to foot march around 4-6 miles a day with about 40lbs in my back pack for the next two weeks, as well as moderate weight lifting just to keep my muscles, twice a week for just a half hour or so. Also keeping my daily calories low, 1300ish.
Would their be any weight loss outlook in that? And would i Iose any muscle weight(I do not want this)?
Also note that I am a conditioned marcher so I do not need any input on that.
I feel like you guys are either being rude, or just not reading the details. I do not like to run it hurt my legs, So I march with extra weight for a long distance.

Muscles weigh more than fat.
But when you realize you need to diet, please also remember to eat a balanced meal.
You’re going to need to eat proteins.
No actually high protein/low carb diets are not really that bad.
What is bad is the fried foods and the simple sugar starches, such as potatoes, corn, sweet peas.(Probably, all your favorite foods)
While dieting there are a few simple “no-nos”.
No sour cream on your baked foods.
No sugar anything (Splenda and Equal are really good tasting sweetners)
Your age is also a factor, the older you get the harder it is to lose weight.
Despite what all thediet books say, as a dieter of more than 30+ years, I learned a few things over the years.
Butter is a natural fat & is better for you that margarine. Margarine is only a step away from being a plastic kid’s toy.
1500 calorie balanced diet is a great diet for a man. Men most of the time use mire calories than women, this is not a chauvinist statement, but a fact. Men are more likely to be out digging ditches than women. They exercise differently than women & their metabolisms are much more different.
