James asks…

How can a atheist say there is no deity with infinite knowledge, without having infinite knowledge.?

By claiming there is no deity with infinite knowledge, you become the deity with infinite knowledge. How can you know there is no one with infinite knowledge with out having infinite knowledge and you denounce yourself.
WOW… atheist really are idiots
sorry for the idiot remark
I am not with this statement tying to prove there is a God, just trying to prove that you cannot prove otherwise.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You cannot prove there is a deity with infinite knowledge therefore I don’t have to prove there isn’t one. I just don’t believe. End of.

EDIT – atheists don’t have to prove anything; burden of proof lies with the people who believe – based on no fact – that there IS a god.

If, however, there was definite proof there was a god, then you might have a point to debate. As it is, you can’t. You think you’re right, we KNOW we’re right 🙂

Sandra asks…

Do you suppose there could be a Deity that indirectly created what we know as existence?

Could this Deity know as much about us as we do about it?

weight loss cardiff answers:

You can’t create existence. Existence is not an object.

Donna asks…

Does human love come from a deity or is simply revealed by a deity what it is like?

If you believe in deities.

I think, as a deist, that we intuitively know love and receive examples of this through various means. A deity can show you what love is, but it is up to us to love. Not that we are conduits for external love, it is internal.

weight loss cardiff answers:

As Laplace allegedly put it of celestial mechanics:
“Sir, I have no need of that hypothesis”.

One can get to ” love”, complex and variously defined as it is, without introducing a deity, so why do so, unless a deity is required on other grounds?

Richard asks…

What is the psychology behind the belief in a deity?

Why do some people believe in a deity and others don’t?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Indoctrination since birth and logic. They’ve been able to replicate a religious experience by putting a magnetic coil over a specific part of the brain, effectively proving religion is in your head. If you were born into a religion, you’re more likely to believe it (indoctrination) and unless you are smart enough to challenge it, you’ll believe it forever.

John asks…

Does objective morality by definition have to come from a deity?

If so, does logic (which is also objective) also have to come from a deity?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Objective morality may be achieved without a deity, how? Simply once you realize that maximum suffering is the worse thing that may be experienced by conscious beings. No, logic has nothing to do with a deity. For example unless you study Foucault, logic is necessarily true. A priori truths, like math, are objective. Since they don’t rely on observation, there is no observer to color their findings.

Mark asks…

How is it possible for someone to reject the deity they were brought up in….?

Without questioning the validity of other deities? It seems if you’ve found any kind of good logical reason to leave one deity, the next deity would have to be subjected to the same reason, and would come up just as short. Or do most people switch deities for emotional reasons and not logical ones.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Some people end up rejecting deities altogether, but that doesn’t mean that all deities are lacking. Religious beliefs often involve emotions. The majority of people are likely to believe whatever it is that makes them feel good, whether it involves god(s) or not.

I rejected the Christian version of God, because I was tired of my ‘own’ belief system treating me like an unthinking, immoral cretin. I have yet to find a replacement and I don’t intend to try. It’s so completely pointless in regards to my own spiritual path. But…..to each his own.

James asks…

What if there were two deities equal in power, but one had more attributes than the other?

Would the number of attributes be the tiebreaker concerning who is the alpha deity? Or would we just have a dualistic universe?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Isn’t there a hindu deity that has several arms? I bet that would trump all of the others hands down.

Charles asks…

Which two temples in India have the same deity at different times?

I have heard this temple legend long ago and do not remember which temple now. It is said that Goddess deity of one temple after the pooja leaves for another temple in another state and presides over the pooja. It is also said that the latter temple has three forms of goddess worshiped at three different times of the day in the same idol and sanctum. Does any one know more about this? I only remember that these are South Indian temples. Your inputs please.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I think you are talking about the cross over temple legend connecting the Mookambika temple in Kollur, Karnataka and the Chottanikkara Temple in Tripunithara, Kerala. Mookambika temple has Goddess Saraswati as the presiding deity and Chottanikkara Temple has three Godesses worshipped at different times, Saraswati in the morning, Bhadrakali at noon and Durga in the evening. Another important deity in the upper complex is Vishnu as ‘Laxminarayanan’. The lower complex is dedicated to Bhadrakaali as ‘Keezhkaavu Bhagawathy’ and is supposed to be one of the most powerful deities in the country. A lot of mentally unstable and insane people visit the Keezhkavu Bhagawathy temple to seek blessing of Bhadrakaali. It is said that witnessing the kumkumaabhishekam of the Goddess here can remove all signs of madness and mental issues of the devotees. Temple legends are connected with the Advaitam saint Sri Sankaracharya who invited Saraswati to come to a place in Kerala as Goddess and dispel ignorance among the people. The Goddess obliged on a condition that she will follow him and meanwhile Sankara should not look back in doubt. Somewhere in between Sankara, not hearing the footsteps of the Goddess looked back and found the Devi to be present behind him. The Goddess then said that she will not come any forward and asked him to built a sanctum for her right there. That temple in between is the Kollur Mookambika temple. On the request of Sankaracharya, the Goddess agreed to come to Chottanikkara in the morning as Saraswati. So after the night pooja at Mookambika, the Goddess leaves for Chottanikara for the morning pooja. It is only after the morning pooja of Chottanikara, that the Sanctum of Mookambika Temple is opened for devotees. Interesting….isnt it?

In Dungeons and Dragons, who is the deity that desires you to kill ugly things?

I’m trying to figure out what deity to give my cleric for my evil campaign, and I want the woman that wishes the destruction of all things ugly. Does anyone remember who she is?
I would like an actual answer rather than being sent on a hunt through a wiki page. I’m tired and my eyes are missing things. Also she’s in 3.5e.
