Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

John asks…

How much do you feel should be charged for a dietitian consult?

Starting a business and I need to know how much my dietitians should charge our clients. I have heard as much as $80/hour but that seems a little high even for Chicago. Also what would you expect to get out of a single session?

weight loss cardiff answers:

I could understand your plight if you were referring to nutritionists. A dietician is taught to prepare meal planning.. Not necessarily nutritionally based.

Depending on the type of business you are planning, I would suggest you have a nutritionist to oversee your dietitians. To advise them of proper nutritional meals.

Sandra asks…

Any good information on becoming a dietitian?

I’m a junior in high school and starting to get serious about my future. I am pretty certain I want to become a dietitian. Mainly for people trying to lose weight or girls recovering from eating disorders. Helping people eating healthier to make them healthier. If you have any good sites with information on going into that profession or good colleges that provide that major (preferably one with a Christian background) that would be appreciated. Thank you! 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

Search for 4-year schools that offer Dietetics as a major. After graduating with a degree, then you take a national board exam to become a Registered Dietitian. (RD)

Students interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian should consult the American Dietetic Association (ADA) for specific information: The American Dietetic Association.

Graduates in the Dietetics major will require further training by applying to an ADA-accredited internship program in order to complete ADA requirements to be a registered dietitian (R.D.).

Here is one university that meets your requirements:

If you are looking to work with Eating Disorders, consider a minor in psychology. Dietitians don’t always work with eating disorders directly because it’s a mental/psychological issue that must be overcome first.

Speak with your counselor. It is their job to help you in this area, searching for the type of schools you want that offer what you are looking for.

Here is more information from the US Dept of Labor with statistics on what the average Dietitian does and what is required.

Good Luck! It is a great field!

Michael asks…

What happens during a first dietitian appointment?

What happens during a first dietitian appointment? I need to know if there is any cause for the dietician to touch the client in any way. Or if it is just a discussion.
Touching would be a problem.
Does anyone have a real, and thoughtful answer?
Please don’t give me BS links or smartass answers. I am asking a question I’d like an answer to. TY

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Carol asks…

What is the difference between a Dietitian and a Nutritionist?

I know that one of the differences is that a Dietitian must be registered and have at least a Bachelors degree in a Food Science/ Nutrition related program as well as have gone through and internship and attained a license ( depending on state) but as in career wise, what is the difference? Are Dietitians found more in hospitals while nutritionists work in private practice or health centers? I am interested in studying in this field , please help 🙂

Thanks 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

The primary difference is that the nutritionist certification does not usually require as much training. Getting a job is like anything else; you have to get someone to hire you.

Paul asks…

What major should I go into in college if I want to be a certified dietitian?

I dont know what classes I should take to become a dietitian or even what major. Also, do I have to go to medical school to be a dietitian?
Please Help! Tell me as much as you know about the dietitian feild. Thanks!

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hi,
I am a Registered Dietitian and am happy to fill you in on the details! You will have to go through several steps to become an RD. First of all, you will need to find a college that has a specific program in place (called DPD requirements- they must be nationally accredited) that will give you the necessary classes to then be eligible for the next step- the Dietetic Internship. This program will lead to a BS , usually in Nutrition Science or Dietetics. It varies from school to school, but you can expect to take the following courses as they are fundamental to the practice of nutrition: 1 year General Chemistry, 1 year Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Anatomy & Physiology, Psychology…as well as your Nutrition core, which ranges from general nutrition to advanced metabolism, etc. Of course, you will also need to complete you liberal arts classes as well (math, English, history, etc). Of note, many employers and the American Dietetic Association are encouraging RDs to also complete a Masters of Science degree before being eligible to practice…this may also be mandatory in the future. After you have graduated (either BS or MS) – you can then apply for the Internship. This is usually about 1 year long- and must also be at a nationally accredited program. Check out www.eatright.org for more info on programs. Internship selection is very competitive, so I encourage you keep your grades up and get as much clinical experience as possible- even if that means volunteering. Then, once you have completed the internship, you are eligible to sit for your RD board exam. Once you pass, you are officially an RD! (YOu have to maintain your credentials, however, via continuing education…but we’ll save that for later!) Good luck in your endeavor!

What is the difference between a nutritionist and a dietitian?

I’m interested in health and how the body works so I want to become a dietitian or nutritionist. But I don’t know the difference. Is there anything different between the two? If so, what is it? Thanks 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

Nutritionist

1) In a hospital or nursing home, a person who plans and/or formulates special meals for patients. It can also simply be a euphemism for a cook who works in a medical facility but who does not have extensive training in special nutritional needs. 2) In clinical practice, a specialist in nutrition. Nutritionists can help patients with special needs, allergies, health problems, or a desire for increased energy or weight change devise healthy diets. Some nutritionists in private practice are well- trained, hold a degree and are licensed. Depending on state law, however, a person using the title may not be trained or licensed at all.

dietitian

A dietitian knows a lot about food and healthy eating. That’s because dietitians are people who are experts in food! Dietitians can help you decide what to eat, when to eat, and almost anything else about eating right.

one concerned with the promotion of good health through proper diet and with the therapeutic use of diet in the treatment of disease. The dietitian may work in a variety of settings, including hospitals and other health care agencies, schools, hotels, and other commercial institutions where duties include both food service administration and therapeutic nutrition services, or may choose to enter the fields of education and research. Some dietitians practice independently either as consultants or private practitioners in the area of therapeutic dietetics.

They also are not regulated. They have varying degrees of education in nutrition – some have very little and some have a masters or phD. Since the term “nutritionist” isn’t regulated, anyone can call themselves a nutritionist and dispense nutritional information without having any education.

Linda asks…

How can i lose weight fast and easy ?

i need to lose weight. what are great exercises that i can act around the house to lose weight fast and easily?

weight loss cardiff answers:

EAT SOME PROTIEN AT EACH MEAL & AS A SNACK
In addition to everything that been discussed before, eating protein helps you burn more calories. Jeff Hample, Ph.D., R.D., a spokesman for the American Dietetic Association says that, “Protein is made up mainly of amino acids, which are harder for your body to breakdown, so you burn more calories getting rid of them.?
Just think ?eating a protein rich snack can help you lose weight. How about a few slices of turkey or ham or some string cheese?
Eating protein will also help you feel full so that you are less likely to crave unhealthy snacks.

Whats the difference between a dietitian and a nutritionist?

I want to be either a nutritionist or a dietitian when I am older, so what is the difference? What qualifications do you need for each job, and what subjects should I take in school? I chose not to do science this year because it was up against food & nutrition so I thought food & nutrition would be more important for being a dietitian/nutritionist.

weight loss cardiff answers:

The term nutritionist is subject to several interpretations. However, it should never be confused with the term dietitian.

In many jurisdictions a nutritionist is a person who devotes professional activity to food and preventive nutrition. They can also advise people on dietary matters relating to health, well-being and nutrition.

In some jurisdictions such as the UK and some US states the term “nutritionist” is not a legally protected term. As a result, some nutritionists who appear in the media in these jurisdictions may give advice on diet that is of questionable informational value.

The term “dietitian” is legally protected. Dietitians are registered with the American Dietetic Association and are only able to use the title “dietitian” when they have met strict, specific educational and experiential prerequisites and passed a national registration examination.

The title “nutritionist” is protected and designated by many but not all states in the United States. It is important that a person seeking the counsel of a nutritionist, check with their local state’s licensing agency to find out if prospective practitioners are duly licensed.

Traditionally, dietitians work in institutional settings, such as hospitals, schools and prisons, rather than in private practice. Nutritionists sometimes work in such institutional but more often work in private practice, in education and research. Some overlap exists within the two professions.

John asks…

How difficult is it to become a dietitian?

I’m wondering how hard the schooling is to become a dietitian? I’m pretty sure this is what I want to do. I’m wondering if there is anyone out there who has successfully completed the program that could let me know!

I’ve noticed it compared to pharmacy a lot. Is it on the same level of difficult?

Any tips?!

Thanks!
