Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

John asks…

How much do you feel should be charged for a dietitian consult?

Starting a business and I need to know how much my dietitians should charge our clients. I have heard as much as $80/hour but that seems a little high even for Chicago. Also what would you expect to get out of a single session?

weight loss cardiff answers:

I could understand your plight if you were referring to nutritionists. A dietician is taught to prepare meal planning.. Not necessarily nutritionally based.

Depending on the type of business you are planning, I would suggest you have a nutritionist to oversee your dietitians. To advise them of proper nutritional meals.

Sandra asks…

Any good information on becoming a dietitian?

I’m a junior in high school and starting to get serious about my future. I am pretty certain I want to become a dietitian. Mainly for people trying to lose weight or girls recovering from eating disorders. Helping people eating healthier to make them healthier. If you have any good sites with information on going into that profession or good colleges that provide that major (preferably one with a Christian background) that would be appreciated. Thank you! 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

Search for 4-year schools that offer Dietetics as a major. After graduating with a degree, then you take a national board exam to become a Registered Dietitian. (RD)

Students interested in becoming a Registered Dietitian should consult the American Dietetic Association (ADA) for specific information: The American Dietetic Association.

Graduates in the Dietetics major will require further training by applying to an ADA-accredited internship program in order to complete ADA requirements to be a registered dietitian (R.D.).

Here is one university that meets your requirements:

If you are looking to work with Eating Disorders, consider a minor in psychology. Dietitians don’t always work with eating disorders directly because it’s a mental/psychological issue that must be overcome first.

Speak with your counselor. It is their job to help you in this area, searching for the type of schools you want that offer what you are looking for.

Here is more information from the US Dept of Labor with statistics on what the average Dietitian does and what is required.

Good Luck! It is a great field!

Michael asks…

What happens during a first dietitian appointment?

What happens during a first dietitian appointment? I need to know if there is any cause for the dietician to touch the client in any way. Or if it is just a discussion.
Touching would be a problem.
Does anyone have a real, and thoughtful answer?
Please don’t give me BS links or smartass answers. I am asking a question I’d like an answer to. TY

Mary asks…

How do you become a registered Dietitian?

Do you need a nutrition degree then do another in dietitian? A step by step answer would be great as i’d love to be one but do not fully understand how to become one.
I have taken the as levels of maths, biology, psychology and art, i am planning to drop art at the end of the year. Is this enough to get in? thanks

weight loss cardiff answers:

I’m not sure if those qualifications will cover your entry credits, my Sister studied this and she had to go to College at 24 years old and do A-level Sciences to gain entry

She studied at Leeds Metroplitan Univeristy and gained entry onto the BSC (HONS) DIETETICS however after year 1 decided she was more interested in the nutrition side and transferred to BSC (HONS) PUBLIC HEALTH NUTRITION.

Her reasoning was she did not want to work for the NHS, dietetics is very clinical/hospital based, taking bloods etc (shes squeemish so was no good for her)

Her interests lay in helping people improve their diets through better food.

I’ve added the links for you below to both courses, you should contact Leeds Met and ask about entry qualifications

Leeds is one of the best if not THE best in the UK to study these subjects, also placements in Newcastle on your last year would be advantageous their hospitals/clinics are specialist.

Linda asks…

What could I do with a degree in Nutrition but I do not want to become a Registered Dietitian?

I’m currently in the Nutrition program at an accredited school and I love nutrition but I do not want to be a Registered Dietitian like the program is geared towards. What else could I do with this degree?

I’d rather do something relating to exercise and nutrition OR traveling and working with cultural foods.

k thanks!

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Ruth asks…

How do you become a dietitian?

I want to work in a hospital, wear scrubs, and be a dietitian. But I’m clueless on how to get there after high school. do i have to go to med. school? what do i major in my undergrad studies? i’m very confused.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I agree with the previous answer. The American Dietetics Association has the best answer for exactly which schools have the program for the DPD’s which stands for Didactic Programs in Dietetics. These are the core classes that you need to be eligible for the internship.

The internship varies from school to school. It is a unpaid 40 hours a week internship that is offered as a “class” at universities and colleges (meaning you are paying for the internship-excellent experience so worth the money). At the school that I am at they work for three months at a food service area learning to manage it and create menu plans for the masses (like at a cafeteria). Then, they work for three months at a low income clinic like a WIC clinic. The last rotation is spent in a hospital working at different areas like the burn unit or with cystic fibrosis patients (they have special dietary needs).

After the internship, you take an intense exam and become a registered dietitian.

As far as majoring for undergrad, it depends on your program. I went to a school that didn’t offer all of the DPD courses. I majored in Nutrition and Biology for my undergrad so most of the courses transferred over. The places on the ADA website (eatright.org) have programs that give you those DPD classes during your education. Most are called “food and nutrition” or “nutrition.”

You don’t have to go to med school.

I’d say check out:

Don’t worry, you’ll be in your scrubs soon enough helping plan those diets!
Good Luck
