Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Jenny asks…

Weight for a 16 year old- be honest?

So about 2 weeks ago, I gained some weight and hit 140 pounds. My weight fluctuates a lot, but this was the first time I hit 140. Anyways, after I saw that, I watched what I was eating (no chocolate, chips, i don’t drink soda or eat greasy foods) and went back to my regular exercise routine for a while and I dropped back down to 133 pounds.
I didn’t starve myself or anything lol don’t worry. I always ate (still do haha) breakfast, and ate 2 sandwiches during the day (about 2-3 hour interval between the two sandwiches), and I generally don’t eat too much for dinner, maybe a shake with veggies, lowfat yogurt, and 2% fat milk.

This probably sounds somewhat methodical to some of you who are reading this, but because I tend to gain weight easily and lose it somewhat easily as well, I do my best to watch what I eat. Oh and I don’t really mix well with oily foods (hamburgers, pizza, fries) b/c I get nauseous when I eat them, so that helps with watching my weight.

Now onto the somewhat more serious part:
Currently, I am at 133 pounds and 5’3 and a half inches tall.
I have a somewhat muscular build (i can’t really describe it, but I’m able to do 80 crunches, 30 pushups, nearly 10 pullups. so try to imagine the build i guess?)
I do believe some of my muscle results in a slightly heavier weight. But recently, my parents have both been telling me that I need to lose weight. Even after I’ve explained to them that based on my bmi, I’m at an okay range, they still look at me as if I’m nearing obesity. It really hurts that I can’t bring up this type of conversation with them without hearing “Go lose weight, stop eating so much, etc.”
Even at a younger age, I was somewhat heavy, and ‘bigger’ than some of the other kids at school. I was never chubby, just more of a muscular build.

In middle school, I tried a few times to completely cut down on what I ate and would limit myself to very little food. I saw weight loss in terms of pounds. My parents, however, told me that I wasn’t eating enough now, and that I needed to eat properly. Hearing these sort of mixed signals would completely throw me off, and so I stopped going to them for advice on a bunch of different things.

My parents aren’t bad people, it’s just that I feel like when it comes to my weight, they see me as being fat and heavy and not at all healthy. I feel like they compare me to all the other skinny asian girls who are stick thin. Am I supposed to really reach that point to be considered “healthy”?

For those of you who read this entire story/question, thank you so much for taking the time. I just want your honest thoughts and opinions regarding this situation. Do you think I should lose weight? And do you think that I really am at an unhealthy point in my life?

weight loss cardiff answers:

You actually sound very healthy. I’m 15, 5’8 and 131 pounds, I get called lanky, but your figure sounds great! And if you can do that amount of muscle exercises you must be in good shape!

I think you need to go through your health with a nurse or your GP. Maybe to talk about if your diet is sensible etc. I think your diet sounds great, and very healthy, but you should discuss your weight with your GP or school nurse because they can tell you if you’re healthy.

If you don’t want to, all I can suggest is take my word. I think you sound totally healthy and in great shape! I wouldn’t worry what your parents say, when I was at my biggest they used to tell me I was big, but now I’ve lost 2 stone, they tell me I’m too thin! They can never make up their minds and they constantly worry, its just what parents are like I guess, but you shouldn’t listen to everything they say otherwise you will never get anywhere in life.

weight loss cardiff answers:

After breakfast, make water your primary drink. At breakfast, go ahead and drink orange juice. But throughout the rest of the day, focus on water instead of juice or soda. The average American consumes an extra 245 calories a day from soft drinks. That’s nearly 90,000 calories a year — or 25 pounds! And research shows that despite the calories, sugary drinks don’t trigger a sense of fullness the way that food does.

how can you lose weight without getting too skinny for football?

well i am 14 years old. i played in my football team last year. next year i am going into highschool. i weigh too much. the thing is i get in my excersizes but i eat too much. this got me as big as i am. its not good. but it is good for football. because of all the excersizes i do and how much i weigh it seems that my legs have really “learned” how to put up with it. because of this the muscle on my leg is pretty damn big. i feel as if that if i lose weight i could really run a lot faster. right now i run a 8.1 on the 50 meter dash. i know its not great but most of the fat kids put up a 9 or a 10. the last time a ran it i put up a 7.9 but it really wasnt official since my friend clocked it. well basically how do i lose weight without making it so people could easily take me down. because i think that i am strong because of my fat.

Continue to work out and eat less. The foods and amounts you eat is what will keep you heavier than you want to be.
