The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you’re consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity minus the Thermic Effect of Food (TEF). A website that explains this formula in more detail and will help you determine how many calories you need to reach or maintain a certain weight is at http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/library/weight/calsburned.htm

Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate the above formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

Set realistic goals for your ideal body weight. Here are two websites that will calculate a suggested body weight:
Adults: http://www.halls.md/ideal-weight/body.htm
Teens/Children: http://www.kidshealth.org/kid/exercise/weight/bmi.html

It is difficult and unhealthy to lose more than one or two pounds per week. There are 3,500 calories in a pound. If you eat 500 fewer calories per day for a week you will lose one pound. If you burn through exercise 500 more calories per day for a week you will lose one pound.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as potatoes) and drink lots of water. Read this article for more information on high GL Carbs:

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is “Muscle and Fitness”. Signup for the free newsletter. A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. Perhaps you could try The Great Australian Diet discussed below.

Created by Australian health guru Dr John Tickell, the Great Australian Diet is touted as a return to natural foods and natural eating patterns. Tickell, an obstetrician turned sports medicine specialist, claims that after travelling the world and studying foods, he has discovered several simple rules which can help anyone lose weight healthily.

He describes the Great Australian Diet as “anti-Atkins, anti-CSIRO” and emphasises the importance of carbohydrates in the diet, saying that the “two most important foods we eat -fruits and vegetables- are carbohydrates”. Dr John also criticises the low GI diet because, he says, it frightens people off eating carbs.

The Great Australian Diet is actually rather complicated, and may not be as easy to follow as Dr Tickell seems to think. First of all, he replaces the glycemic index with the HI, or ‘Human Interference’ factor. This means that foods which have been highly processed, such as salami, white bread and white rice, are considered unhealthy, and are replaced by unprocessed alternatives- raw and lightly cooked vegetables, fish, especially deep water fish and sardines, and small amounts of lean meat. 2/3 of the diet should be composed of vegetables and fruits, and 1/3 ‘bonus’ foods, which are essentially lean proteins, and after the initial two day cleansing period, which is very low calorie, 15 different types of plants should be eaten every day.

Since no calorie guidelines are given, and only vague instructions to eat 4 or 5 nuts and so on, this may be the downfall of many dieters. After all, its pretty easy to forget how many nuts, seeds and grains you have eaten. It may also be hard for people on busy schedules to keep to such a demanding diet, since eating out is restricted really to grilled fish and an occasional steak and vegetables.

But the Great Australian Diet is much more than just an eating plan. Dieters get points for watching the sunset, hugging their children and other ‘coping’ activities, and use gentle exercise techniques to strengthen trunk and arm muscles. Walking is also part of the diet, which claims over 91 days to re-educate the body into natural rhythms. One of the selling points for me at least, is the resting weeks- after each three weeks on the diet, there are two weeks when you are allowed to eat freely, and recuperate. However, although it seems pretty healthy, the Great Australian Diet is never going to be voted easiest diet of the year.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

James asks…

How can you tone yourself/ lose weight easily ?

I’m not a very big person but i am a little “flabby” i just would like to know if anyone knew any secrets to toning muscles without going to the gym constantly or lose weight without going on awful diets…and i am a little impatient so if i could have some advice it would be very appreciated

weight loss cardiff answers:

Okay, I’ve lost about four pounds in the last week just doing these basic things.
I’ve drank so much water that i deffiniately got at least five glasses a day! So i suggest you start drinking your water, also green tea helps boost your metabolism.

Your eating habits will also be a cause for excess ‘flab’, so try and cut your portions in half, or down a little. Stay away from high carb/calorie snacks, and many carbs all together. Start eating vegetables, and many fruits as they have benefits for more than just weight loss. You can try taking vitamins as well, and stay away from your junk food! You can treat yourself occasionally.

Your exercise can be pretty simple actually, you can walk for thirty minutes three times a week while doing leg lifts, pilates, yoga, squats, crunchs, jumping jacks, arm lifts, and jogging on spot!
That’s pretty much my entire exercise regime for the week, plus i do bike around my town, and i’ve been walking my dog each day.

Try and squeeze in exercise wherever you go, take the stairs, go outside for five minutes and run around. Anything!

I do know this is more of a diet outline but it’s what i could think of at the moment, i apologize if it’s not what you were looking for but hopefully it still helped!

Give me a message here on yahoo if you’d like a few more tips, i have many more!

Good luck !

Tips for Loosing Weight
By
minootoo

You must count calories and at least in initial stages write down what you are going to eat and when then stay on that list. Your total calories for the week must not exceed, 1500 x 7 = 10,500 calories this will give you leave way to indulge at special occasions like wedding and parties, but you must write down what you eat and account for the calories latter and adjust the total intake next week.

Please read my article on this subject and follow them.
While at it build your body too, while reducing by doing body parts specific exercises.

If you are not too old, then best way to reduce your weight is to increase your height.

Vegetarians have a big advantage, in loosing weight, it cost less and they can satisfy the hunger more easily, some vegetables have only 1 calorie per pound, so they can fill themselves up with it before enjoying each meal, and never go hungry.

Most people should take one a day water soluble multi-vitamins when on this program; they can be purchased at the pharmacy near you.

Increasing the Height
By
minootoo

In rare cases, you can increase the height up to age 30.

Cycling is good exercise and fun too.

You need to adjust the seat so that when you paddle from seating position you will actually stretch your legs, it is a difficult position but doable. For safety you need to be on track and not in traffic, safety first.

The FEW things I did at least helped me.

Swimming.

Not just playing in water, but serious laps type swimming, do not try to beat the clock but steady full strokes swimming. Remember slow and steady wins the race.

Stretching exercises on floor.

Find them on line.

Chin ups.

Full stretch type.

Swinging from a rope.

Full stretch climbing.

In other words do things that require stretching.
STRETCH-STRETCH-STRETCH-STRETCH

PS

In the morning after good night sleep every one is about 1/2 inch to 1 inch taller. This is because the soft tissue between the bones recovers during the time when there is no weight on them.

Older people loose height due to bone loss. I was 5′, 7” I am only 5′, 5″.

Issue of Genes:

You know only the active genes but genes can stay dormant for generations.

I believe that every one has some tall height genes, dormant or active; I again believe that certain exercises can activate those.

Again Swimming:

You will start out with half a lap and build up day by day, half a lap at a time. Then you will swim non stop for 1/2 an hour.

The speed is not important but you must use various strokes and do them correctly, completely, slowly and perfectly. This way you will have full stretch, and its benefit.

Eating healthy foods and taking rest as specially sleeping soundly at night is very important. Most people need 8 hours of good sound sleep per night, some need more and few get by with 4 hours only.

In the mean time use high hills and take advantage of hair-do, wardrobe can do wonders too; vertical striped clothing can create a taller look for most people.

Hormones:

Under strict supervision of a doctor they do wonders but the side effects are delayed and unpredictable so doctors do not like to use them.

Surgical Procedures:

There are surgical procedures but most doctors will not do them till the person is 30 years or so. They also have to be very short.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/

A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. How to choose what side of family to live near?

I have 2 sides of family… 1 in Arizona and 1 in Oklahoma and cant decide which one is best to live near! My family in Arizona is more free spirit and partiers on every other weekend and doesn’t discuss God or core values that will raise better kids for our future. But they are fun to be around. I cant imagine wanting to live in Arizona forever because I enjoy the green landscapes… My mom who is sick (been sick all her life with lupus) thinks she wont be alive in 10 yrs from now, but dr’s have been saying that for 10 yrs by now. My mom stresses easily and cusses in normal conversation that is not a great influence on my child, but she has her own lil qwerks that makes her loveable. When my mom comes over to my house you know she is judging if the dishes are done, vaccum has been done, if you are or are not gaining or losing weight. It stresses me out sometimes. I like having a clean house just sometimes life gets in the way to keep everything spotless. I have 1 sibling in Arizona. If I leave Arizona I know it will be crushing to my mother.

I love each side equally!

My family in Oklahoma is more in que with my values of discussing God, family quality time, teaching your children good wholesome values, and being self sufficient. I like Oklahoma land. The downfall for my Oklahoma family is they are more laidback sometimes to the point that no excitement but its not too bad. My dad and stepmom are both great grandparents. My stepmom likes a clean house too like my mom but doesn’t stress out or judge on cleanliness. I have 3 siblings in Oklahoma.

Sry for so much details but I feel stressed deciding.

Lots and lots of walking its easy and you are less likely to give it up because you wont get tired so quickly then build up what you do introduce some weights and other exercises like lots of resistance training that will tighten everything back up, doing hard workout to begin with makes people give up easily.
You wont lose weight with just exercise you need to eat better too,
With food you basal metabolic rate is ( 2403 ) that means how many calories you should be eating a day now take 500 calories from that and you should be loosing about 1lb a week and if you do 2 hours walking a day then that is another lb a week you will lose I know it sounds slow but it is the healthy way and your skin will tighten back much more easily.
Eat lots of greens and meat eat 6 meals a day 2- 2- 1/2 hours apart

breakfast – snack- lunch- snack- dinner- snack
all snacks should be about 150 calories each

Little tips chew gum it burns 10 calories an hour
taking a 2 min cold shower burns almost 200 calories
drink ice cold water that can burn 100’s a week
and drinking 4 cups of green tea burns 80 cal a day
