What are some really good diet and exercise plans?
I’m very much in need to lose weight. I’m 19 years old, 5 foot 9 inches tall, size 12. I do not know my weight at the moment for the lack of having a scale at home but I know I’m around 140LBS or a little over that. I got weighed at the doctors a month ago and it was 142LBS so I’m going with that.
I have quite a chubby stomach and could lose weight in my thighs as well. It’s where most of my fat is. What are some good diet plans I should look into and what are some good exercises I could do to tone out my body more? Any advice would be great.

The healthiest diet in the world also tends to drive your weight below what’s considered normal or average. The life expectancy and vigorous health of older people in these populations surprises even the most educated and experienced medical professionals. Demographic studies by many scientists over several decades have repeatedly shown that a “whole plant based diet” promotes health and longevity. A lifelong vegetarian eating a balanced diet and getting a moderate level of activity can expect to live a healthy and vigorous life that is at least 7 years longer than most Americans.
The rates of obesity, cancer, diabetes, vascular disease in these populations are many times less than in populations eating like the Standard American Diet (SAD). SAD most often includes excess animal based foods, refined oils, refined carbohydrates, caffeine, and food additives.
In contrast, the Physician’s Committee for Responsible Medicine has defined the Four New Food Groups:
+ Vegetables – Especially dark leafy greens (kale, collard, chard) and colorful vegetables.
+ Legumes such as peas, beans, and lentils.
+ Whole grains such as brown rice and quinoa.
+ Whole fruit and not processed fruit drinks and other commercial drinks.
If you eat animal based food products such as meat (pork, beef, fish, and poultry) and dairy (milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt, cream, mayonnaise, and so on), you should eat these foods in great moderation and infrequently. If you completely give up animal based foods products, make sure you have adequate B vitamins, D vitamins, and Omega-3 fats.
I lost 90 pounds without feeling hungry or deprived. Check out the books that I list from your local library for further information.
In terms of exercise, you will want to perform aerobic exercise for 30-60 minutes most days. This is any exercise that moves major muscle groups repetitively and continuously causing you to be slightly out of breath. I like swimming and bicycling. Some people prefer dance, running, or even jumping rope. Since the workout of your heart and lungs is the same for any given heart rate, just pick activities that you enjoy and that you can easily fit into your daily routine. For example, I often stopped at the gym before work for a 50 minute swim. It became part of my routine and part of my commute.
A program of free weight training is also very helpful. One good book on the specific exercises is:
Body for Life: 12 Weeks to Mental and Physical Strength by Bill Phillips and Michael D’Orso (Jun 10, 1999)
The exercise program is well explained and there is a lot of motivational text. However, the advice on diet is typical of what you would hear from trainers in your local gym. It’s not based upon the best scientific research. Skip the sections on diet and especially the protein drink recommendations. High protein diets are hard on the liver and kidneys and can have long-term health consequences.
By the way, I lost 90 pounds of fat on a pure vegetarian diet, and my health and feeling of well being have never been better. I’m attempting to avoid the vascular disease that is common on both sides of my family.

Exercises that can easily be done in a dorm room?
I’ve gained like 50lbs my freshman year of college. I have started dieting, but was wondering if anyone knew any good exercises that could be done in a small dorm room. Most of my free time is during the middle of the night, and I can’t run very well due to a knee injury, but I really, really want to lose weight. It would be especially helpful if they were exercises that could be done while studying or watching tv on my laptop.

Whats the best way to start a blog?
I want to document my dieting strategies for friends and family who are going through a similar situation as I am: losing weight. What are the best free websites for blogging? I want to make this easily accessible for the older people in my family who are a bit technology challenged.

WordPress & Blogger are both free and the most popular blog software –
http://www.wordpress.org
http://www.blogger.com
Blogger is owned by Google.
Good luck on your diet & your blogging!!!!!!!! :):):)
Hi again, IMO I think Blogger.com would be the best fit for you, since you are just starting out. It is very simple to set up – and there is great video tutorial on the site. It’s 100% Free – free to set up, free hosting, free templates, free everything. (Some other blogs you need a hosting company and a domain name – monthly and annual fees for these).
Once you are set up and have your Display Name – you can just e-mail the link to all your family and friends (+ post on Facebook) and they will be able to easily access it.
Good luck and happy blogging!!!!!!!!! π
