Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Daniel asks…

What is the healthiest long term diet program for obese people?

I’m an obese person trying to loose weight. I recently was told I am pre-diabetic. I am looking for a program for lifelong health, not a quick fix. What lifelong health/ weight loss programs have people had good luck with? Prefer something online. Please share additional details.

Perhaps you could try The Great Australian Diet discussed below.

Created by Australian health guru Dr John Tickell, the Great Australian Diet is touted as a return to natural foods and natural eating patterns. Tickell, an obstetrician turned sports medicine specialist, claims that after travelling the world and studying foods, he has discovered several simple rules which can help anyone lose weight healthily.

He describes the Great Australian Diet as “anti-Atkins, anti-CSIRO” and emphasises the importance of carbohydrates in the diet, saying that the “two most important foods we eat -fruits and vegetables- are carbohydrates”. Dr John also criticises the low GI diet because, he says, it frightens people off eating carbs.

The Great Australian Diet is actually rather complicated, and may not be as easy to follow as Dr Tickell seems to think. First of all, he replaces the glycemic index with the HI, or ‘Human Interference’ factor. This means that foods which have been highly processed, such as salami, white bread and white rice, are considered unhealthy, and are replaced by unprocessed alternatives- raw and lightly cooked vegetables, fish, especially deep water fish and sardines, and small amounts of lean meat. 2/3 of the diet should be composed of vegetables and fruits, and 1/3 ‘bonus’ foods, which are essentially lean proteins, and after the initial two day cleansing period, which is very low calorie, 15 different types of plants should be eaten every day.

Since no calorie guidelines are given, and only vague instructions to eat 4 or 5 nuts and so on, this may be the downfall of many dieters. After all, its pretty easy to forget how many nuts, seeds and grains you have eaten. It may also be hard for people on busy schedules to keep to such a demanding diet, since eating out is restricted really to grilled fish and an occasional steak and vegetables.

But the Great Australian Diet is much more than just an eating plan. Dieters get points for watching the sunset, hugging their children and other ‘coping’ activities, and use gentle exercise techniques to strengthen trunk and arm muscles. Walking is also part of the diet, which claims over 91 days to re-educate the body into natural rhythms. One of the selling points for me at least, is the resting weeks- after each three weeks on the diet, there are two weeks when you are allowed to eat freely, and recuperate. However, although it seems pretty healthy, the Great Australian Diet is never going to be voted easiest diet of the year.

Sandra asks…

What foods should I eat in order to get skinnier?

I am 5′ 5″ tall about about 147 pounds. I would like to lose a 27 pounds and reach 120 by this summer! If anyone knows which foods are the best to lose weight fast and any other weight loss suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you!

weight loss cardiff answers:

I definitely think that your goal is attainable, but you are going to really have to do some work to get there.

First, I would look at possibly doing a cleanse to get the system cleaned out. There is roughly 5 to 15 pounds of food that is left in peoples colon that 90 percent of americans don’t know about. That will help for starters, because the colon is where you absorb nurtrients from the foods that you eat.

There are alot of different cleanses out there. A couple that I am aware of, is the Master Cleanse, and also a watermelon cleanse. Trust me, there are a lot out there!

Second, I would definitely look at changing your dietary habits. I would look at eating for your proper bloodtype(not something most people even know about), and also talking to a nutritionist if you have the money. The most power you will be able to have is the knowledge about how your body works specifically, and they will help you will that knowledge.

Look at what foods you do enjoy that are good for you. I went on a completely all raw(uncooked) fruits and vegetable only diet. It was incredible, and I admit hard. You can look at that as an option, as when I coupled that with exercise daily, the fast melted right off! So look into what you think you would be comfortable with food wise. Look at getting more lean meats, salads, vegetable, and fruits into your diet.

Third, I would look at what you plan to do for exercise. I would seek out a personal trainer if you have the cash, and the time to get to the gym. They will help you get a workout regimen that will be tailored to what it is that you enjoy, and at the same time will help you get into shape. The more muscle that you build, the faster you metabolism will burn. You can get that by lifting weights.

Also, you can get an acountability partner. Someone that wants to do the same thing that you do. You know how it is always easier when you have someone to do it with=)

Last but now least, remember that you are making a lifestyle change, and you might possibly have to change somethings drastically in order to obtain your goal. Also write it down!

Remember to take it at your pace, you can’t eat an elephant whole as the saying goes. This won’t happen over night, take small steps at first, praise yourself for your gains, and keep moving forward one day at a time.

Take care, good luck, and I know you can do it!!,

Dave

Linda asks…

Can someone help me with foods and drinks that help with weight loss?

I’m looking for a drink that will cleanse me out or that is really healthy to drink (other than water which i’m already drinking) and also any foods suggestion and tips about excersizing?

weight loss cardiff answers:

When it comes to food, it’s much easier to follow a diet than improvising on your own. The important thing is to avoid carbs, increase your protein and fat intake to make up for the lost carbs. Stay away from processed foods. That’s about it. I’ve been following a diet for a while now, and I must say that it has exceeded my expectations.

As for exercising. Just do the simple things. Jogging, running, biking, swimming, and other workouts that make you really sweat. Sweat burns fat so the more you sweat the more weight you lose.

Don’t forget to drink lots of water when you’re working out. Also rest in between those workouts, don’t overdo it.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Joseph asks…

Is plain white rice a good diet food?

I heard that it is. But I don’t think it tastes good, is there anything I can do to add a little more flavor to the rice but still keeping it a diet food?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Yes! It’s great because there is no fat and it’s filling! 🙂

Mary asks…

what is the best combination of balanced diet food you can have/prepare or buy after a tooth extraction?

I have got two wisdom teeth taken out on the right side. but i can eat on the left side. i am just having just water, smoothie and tomato soup…but i feel its not enough…

I’d like to know if there a good combination of balanced diet food to have ,would be nice if u have experienced them personally though. Thank you for your detailed answers 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

It won’t be long before you can eat normally so don’t worry about a balanced diet – it won’t matter for a day or two. How about mashing a banana with a fork in a bowl? This is very easy to eat and nourishing. You could add some milk, cream, yogurt, honey etc, whatever you fancy. Soft cheese is easy to eat, and so is peanut butter – eat it off a spoon. And there are lots of other soups besides tomato – choose some with meat and veg if you’re concerned. Grilled fish is also easy to eat, & you can adda bit of nice sauce to help it along. How about tinned rice pudding? Hate it myself but lots of people love it. Scrambled egg is full of protein and dead easy to eat without much chomping. Get some fresh apricots or plums. Take the stones out and squash them into a puree – delicious. Good luck and hope you soon feel better.Real food is always better for you than prepared diet stuff, whose main purpose is to make money for the manufacturer. Hop your mouth soon feels better.

William asks…

What are some good foods to eat when you’re trying to lose weight?

I’m on a 1200-1400 cal a day diet, trying to lose about 7 lbs. I know the generic diet foods like salad and chicken and egg whites, but I’m bored with them. What are some foods that you found effective in a diet?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Eat foods with fiber. They help your digestion system immensely. Fiber One is pretty good if you want a dense source of fiber.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Charles asks…

What are ways to exercise without equipment?

I’m trying to lose weight. I’m only 15 years old and it’s hard for me to go to a gym or to buy exercise equipment to exercise in the house. The only thing really holding me back from going on a diet is exercise because i know it’s hard to lose weight without exercise. Could someone help me?

weight loss cardiff answers:

There are actually a variety of ways you can exercise that don’t require any type of specialized equipment. You can do calasentics (e.g. Jumping jacks, running in place, push-ups, sit-ups, etc.)
cardio is always a good thing to do whether you’re trying to shed pounds or not. Start by going for short but brisk walks. As you build up your stamina start jogging/running.
Another good workout is circuit training. Its actually not that hard to do and it can help you keep from getting bored.
If you’re looking for alternatives to weight training you can use can goods. Another suggestion is to get an empty milk carton (the plastic jugs work best) because you can adjust the weight by the amount of water you add. It might not seem heavy but after a few reps you’ll start to feel it. Besides low weight and high reps is good for losing weight. If you need any help with setting up a circuit training e-mail me, i have experience in that area. But before you start any kind of diet or exercise program you should really consult your doctor just to make sure you do it safely.

Mark asks…

Hi, can anyone give me any tips about loosing weight without doing exercise?

I am 23 years old and I gain a lot of weights in a couple of months. I can’t do any exercise because of my chest pain. But, I need to lose about 30 pounds. So, is there anyway to lose weight without doing hard exercise? Thank you.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Nearly 6 years ago, I started Atkins low carb way of eating to just quit gaining weight. I had to get my out of control appetite under control. I never imagined I could LOSE weight without hunger or exercise, since I’ve become disabled. I never bothered weighing or measuring til I’d noticed that my clothes got huge quick. When my health improved dramatically also, I knew this was my new way of life and since it’s eat all you want (of low carb foods) I know I can do this for life.

You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.

The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.

Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.

The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).

It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.

Simple carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice) trigger insulin which can store the calories eaten into fat. The more protein the more the fat burning hormone glucagon is released. The more carbohydrate the more the fat storage hormone insulin is released.

Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want “something” – have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese – pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad – steaks – a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.

High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise. Any exercise will greatly increase muscle mass with high HGH levels.

Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min. To absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 minutes. Suggested for daily fiber needs.

The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more vegetables thereafter – add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)

Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.

As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn't gain weight, no matter the calories. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Betty asks…

How many calories should I take in?

I used this weight loss calorie calculator and it says I should take in 1600 but when you’re setting it up it asks how active are you (i put moderate)
so does that mean i should only eat 1600 (and it calculates the exercise out)
because i have been eating like 1800 calories then excercise to burn like 200

weight loss cardiff answers:

Eat what you want as long as your making a deficit it doesn’t matter

Sandra asks…

Is walking 2-3 hours a day light, moderate or intense exercise?

Walking normally that is, not brisk.
I want to lose some weight and all these online weight loss calculator things ask about ‘light/moderate/intense’ exercise in order to work out how many calories you should eat in a day in order to lose your required weight.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Walking is light I would say. If you walk briskly, it is light to moderate. But know this; it is an excellent form of fat-burning exercise because 1) you probably operate around 60% of your max-pulse when you walk, which is the PERFECT pulse-zone for just that. 2) because as you said it takes time, you spending 2-3 hours a day on walking. Depending on your weight and physical shape that could mean 1000-1500 calories a day on walking. But as I said, the amount of calories burned would depend on your current physical shape and size so don’t bother counting to perfection exactly how many calories you eat at any given time. Just try to have a general idea.

So to put it simple, light to moderate training where you operate between 55 and 70 % of your max pulse is the best training when your aim is fat-burning. It is also a quite comfortable zone to be in. If you go above 70 % you will instead gradually burn more and more carbohydrates and less fat, more so the higher you go. 2-3 hours is excellent and it gladens me that finally someone here on answersYahoo goes about loosing weight the right way and not through starvation and fanatical counting and controlling of calories at every turn.

If you fail to achieve as good results as you had hoped :
1) be patient and don’t give up too soon
2) eat healthy food. Try to eat slightly less so that you go slightly on a energy-shortage every day, but only a LITTLE. Don’t starve yourself.
3) Increase the tempo you walk in to brisk pace, gradually if you feel that is best.

Thomas asks…

How much weight would you expect a teenage girl with hypothyroidism to lose over the period of a week?

I have hypothyroidism. That’s basically when your thyroid glad which is located in your neck slows your metabolism down. So it’s really hard for me to lose weight. I’m willing to work hard to get the body I want. As of now I weigh 135 pounds and I’m a young teen. Do you think by late March (2 months) I’ll be able to lose 4-5 pounds? I’m aware that weight loss takes a while and it’s even harder for people with hypothyroidism but I’m going to stick to a strict exercise routine.

If it matters by the way I’d like to be down to 120 or by May/June.

I’ve checked my BMI on many calculators and they all say I’m normal. But I want to get rid of the flab 🙂

No negative comments please. I just want to know if I can lose weight with my hypothyroidism. By the way, I take Synthyroid for that.

Thank you so much 🙂
Please ignore the ‘Over a period of one week’ part. It’s nearly midnight so I’m pretty tired. Read the description though!! 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

You could definitely lose 4-5lbs by that time, but it will be slow if you don’t really need to lose weight. Your body will be slow to give it up because you’re not fat, but it could happen. I also take Synthroid and I lose 1-2lbs per week. Being on medication makes your thyroid act normal again, so that’s not really a problem anymore. Good luck!
