Methane’s hydrogen atoms are bonded covalently. Carbon and Hydrogen are fairly close in electronegativity, so no H-bonding occurs.

Diethyl ether (ethoxyethane) is along the same lines as Methane – the H atoms are attached to C atoms – no H-bonding should occur.

AcOH (acetic acid) however, has an alcohol group (OH) where the O atom pulls the electron away from the H most of the time giving the H atom a (slightly) negative charge. It is possible that some H-bonding occurs.

I need a nonpolar solvent for some experiments I want to do. My hardware store doesn’t carry hexane or toluene or diethyl ether. Is turpentine nonpolar? What about xylene? Methyl ethyl ketone? I could buy online but I want to avoid that. Any ideas?
I know about the dangers and I have adequate ventilation.

So when you come off this “diet,” you’ll gain everything back and then some. The only healthy way to lose weight is by healthy dieting (ie- following the food pyramid) and exercise. You need grains and protein (from meat or beans) and other essential amino acids in order for your body to function properly. Also, many fruits, like bananas, are actually high in calories, so you might actually gain weight. I’ve seen it happen.

6 week weight loss plans?

Does anyone know of a good 6 week weight loss plan. I know a healthy loss is 1-2lbs a week – but it’s holiday time – so 3lbs a week would be preferable!

I am planning to visit the gym 2 mornings a week for 45 minutes of cardio, swim one morning a week and do a spin class a week – is this enough?

I usually follow weight watchers when I want to lose weight – but I don’t have time for that.

fastest way to lose weight easily?

im 13 and weigh a 117 pounds(5 feet 6 inches) and i kind of want to lose more weight in my thigh area and (i guess get tone abs too) so what is a good exercise i should do everyday where i can see results (i have a weding to go to (junior bridesmaid so i dont want to look fat in my dress) (its also in a month so every little thing helps .. i also eat healthy so my eating habits arent really a problem
