Do you have to burn off all of what you eat to lose weight?

Like, say you eat UNDER your amount of calories as you are meant to but you burn most off, will you still lose weight effectively? Like say your meant to eat 1800 and you eat 1200 and burn off 100, will you still lose weight cos you have eaten under?

Yes. Assuming your numbers are all accurate.

Bear in mind that:

1. Any BMR estimate (1800?) you get from websites or calculators or wherever is only an ESTIMATE. Everyone’s metabolism, digestive efficiency, and daily activity level is somewhat different, so your’s could easily be ± 10%.

2. Same goes for the impact of your exercise (100?). Note that exercise machines cannot and do not measure calories burned. They only give you a number calculated from the machine settings.

3. Its unlikely that your estimate of calorie intake is any more accurate than the rest of your numbers.

I’m not trying to discourage you, just to make you understand that weight loss is not a neat, linear, calculated, precise thing, ie, “I’m going to eat X calories, burn Y, and lose Z pounds every 10 days”

It would be if you could measure your fuel use and intake precisely, but you can’t. Most people underestimate their calorie intake and overestimate the impact of their exercise. Eat a little less, exercise more, and let the scale take care of itself. Think months, not days.

Being cheap with fitness equipment is never a good idea because it often gurantees that you will never actually use it to achieve your fitness goals. You should find a specialty fitness store and participate in a trial membership at local gyms. This will help you identify what ellipticals you like best. They are all different because of patents. No one elliptical can provide a better work out than another. Losing 20 pounds is easier than you could imagine. At a conservative pace it should only take 6 weeks tops. The best speed is to keep pushing your fitness level higher. So, if you can only maintain 6 mph continue to do so while always pushing yourself to hold 7 as long as you can.

I would not say they are a scam.. I would just say that is not the healthy way to lose weight. What is easier is rarely healthier. These products will make some people lose weight, and they may kill some other people. I have read and heard some horror stories about those products..

How do you get a reluctant Doctor to prescribe weight loss medications?

I am 5ft2 and almost 200 pounds. I have a hard time losing weight through excersise because I have severe Fibromyalgia. I eat a very good diet of 1,000 calories a day but although I am not gaining I am not losing either. My doctor says he doesnt like to prescribe any weight loss meds to anyone. I do not want to go see another doc because this current one is so good with my other illnesses and it is in my contract that if i see anyone else, he will not see me anymore. What do I do?? Help!
Ive decided to add some more on this post to thank you all so far for your input and helpful advice. I have a Response for “M’s” question. Most doctors who deal exclusively with pain management will have their patients sign this sort of contract. It pretty much just means that since they are handaling all of the intricate specifics of your unique case that it would not be benificial and would cause much confusion to bring in other doctors without his permission first. If you, the patient wish to see a different doctor than your pain management doctor , you are more than welcome to a second opinion or whatever you are seeking but it is in your primary pain management care providers discretion to see you or to (more than likely ) not to see you as a patient again. Thanx for listening and responding.

Ask him to recommend a nutritionist for you to consult with. If he won’t prescribe anything, then the least he can do is work with you in other ways. Maybe a nutritionist can adjust what types of foods you are eating and make it possible for you to lose weight. Actually, you might not be getting enough calories and if you ate certain foods and increased your calorie intake by 200, you might have better luck. But I’m only guessing. Don’t get discouraged. It might just be a 1 lb. Loss per week, but that’s 52 lbs. In a year.

I know you said you have severe Fibromyalgia, but can you just try walking 10 minutes each day and try to gradually work up to 30 minutes over time? If you don’t feel like walking outside, the Leslie Sansone walking DVD’s are easy and a lot of people like you lose weight using them. Basically it’s just walking in place in front of your TV for 15 minutes.

How long does it take for diet pills to work?

So I’ve been using these diet pills for the past week and it says on the box that I’m supposed to drop down around 8-10 kg in one month. The pharmacist said they work so no, they’re not a coax. But I haven’t felt my size shrinking yet. I have, however, noticed that my fat is becoming soft and squishy. I read somewhere that this is the first step “The fat goes squishy then whooshy”( meaning it would drop down at a sudden ). Is this true? And how long do diet pills usually take to start showing a difference?

ALL diet pills are a hoax.
1. Your metabolism can become dependent on them, so when you stop it slows down and you gain weight. It can take a while for your metabolism to regulate itself to a normal level again.
2. For diet pills that make you feel full, your stomach gets dependent on that, so when you go off you gain weight because you feel hungrier.
3. They are NOT FDA regulated usually so if they claim to be herbals, they can have VERY LITTLE of the actual herb they claim. Besides that any diet pill regulated or not can be dangerous to your heart and other organs.
4. If you have a diet pill that works like a laxative, forget it, not only can you get malnourished but it’s just not good for weight loss.
5. Almost all diet pills except the laxative ones, say that they work ONLY if you follow a diet and exercise routine.

You don’t need any pills, just willpower.

What diet makes you lose weight quickest?

I need to lose weight quick (summer time!) and I’ve tried and heard about a lot of diets but I need to know which one will make me lose weight quickest. I already know people are going to tell me to just “eat healthy and work out” but I’ve done that and I don’t lose much weight.
I don’t care if the diet is “unhealthy”. As long as I can eat (even if it’s just a little) I’m for it.
I’ve tried the Atkins diet and I like it since the first week I can lose like 7 lbs right off the bat! Only problem is after the first or second week, it plateaus and you don’t lose weight even if you stay on the diet.
I don’t like working out (most people don’t) but I’m not completely against it. Whichever diet will help me lose the most weight fast without having to workout 24/7 will be great!
Not sure if it matters but I’m 22, 5’5 and 160lbs.(f)
I want to lose about 20-30lbs as quick as I can!

If you Plateau on Atkins your screwing the diet up. If your body isn’t burning stored body fat for fuel, then you must be giving it something else to burn. You need to work out regardless of what diet you do, but Atkins by far is the best for quick weight loss. If your one of the people who “Did Atkins” yet never bought the book, didn’t learn the rules, then that’s why you failed. I’ve never met anybody that has done Atkins (correctly) and failed.
