Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

James asks…

What kind of protein should a slim guy drink?

i am 130 lbs. I do not want to lose weight. I want to gain muscle but i don’t know what kind of protein should i drink. I only work out at home not the gym. i do some push ups and sit ups and I don’t want a protein thats extreme for gym people. any suggestions?

weight loss cardiff answers:

None. Your body does not store protein. So, a protein supplement can only benefit you if your diet is deficient in protein. And, if it is deficient, fix the diet. Eat food.

Protein is the most misunderstood nutrient in bodybuilding. I don’t have the space to tell you all you need to know so I’ll just hit the high spots and if you need more info, you can message my Yahoo account.

Don’t listen to muscleheads, gym rats, bodybuilders, personal trainers, and even coaches about protein. Most of them believe what decades and $$$$millions in supplement advertising have been telling them…that they need a lot of protein to build muscle. Not true. Here’s how much you need according to the best minds in the world at the US CDC, the people our doctors (in the US) listen to. –> http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/protein.html#How%20much%20protein You can easily get that amount of protein with a glass of milk and a chicken breast or piece of meat per day. If you consume more protein, you’ll only excrete it or burn it and both are a waste.

Bodybuilders don’t work as hard as they would like to believe. Construction workers, migrant field hands, movers, UPS drivers, etc. All work much harder every week. And none of those people worry about protein or take supplements for their jobs. They just eat a good diet and their bodies adapt with no problem. A bodybuilder can only work out 10 hours a week at the most because of the recovery time required by the muscles. Marathon runners, boxers, Olympic athletes, Navy SEALs, Army Rangers, etc. All train much harder and they do it without supplements.

Most protein supplements are scams. According to the US National Institute of Health, you should use supplements only when recommended by a doctor. —> http://ods.od.nih.gov/Health_Information/ODS_Frequently_Asked_Questions.aspx#Need That’s good advice because the government does not require testing so you won’t be protected by the FDA as you are with food and drugs. Also, many supplements have been found to be contaminated and dangerous.

Check out this list of over 60 dangerous supplement products sold with bogus advertising claims which scam-site bodybuilding.com was forced to recall and take off the market –> http://www.usrecallnews.com/2009/11/bodybuilding-com-supplements-recalled-may-contain-steroids.html .

All you need to make the gains you can is food. There is an abundance of information to prove this point. So, I will give you examples and cite references in the space I have left. Just be sure to ask yourself if you ever saw any good scientific evidence suggesting you need 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight or more. The answer will be no. That’s a huge myth. And, all the naysayers who disagree with me will not have any good science for you. All they’ll have are ads, phony reviews, bogus testimonials, false scientific sounding white papers, bad blogs, scam sites, etc. All paid for by scammers like this one. —> http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=5196740n&tag=related;photovideo

Here’s a white paper which debunks the myth of the protein supplement. Note the following excerpt…“At present there is no evidence to suggest that supplements are required for optimal muscle growth or strength gain.”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15212752

Here’s one more study to read. Note the excerpt…”Consumption of a recovery drink (whey protein, amino acids, creatine, and carbohydrate) after strength training workouts did not promote greater gains in FFM (Fat free muscle) compared with consumption of a carbohydrate-only drink.”
Ref: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15105028

Here’s another from Live Science. Note the excerpt…“Medical researchers have advised against protein supplements for years for the average person. But many sports trainers continue to push them on amateur athletes simply because they don’t know any better.”
Ref: http://www.livescience.com/health/protein-supplements-100202.html#

Here’s what Consumer Reports had to say —> Ref: http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/magazine-archive/2010/july/food/protein-drinks/overview/index.htm

If you have any doubts about the citations and references above, talk to the person who understands best how your body works….your doctor.

Ok I am 13 and I want to loose weight. Is there any easy way to do it?

I know I am underage for yahoo but I am on my moms so don’t report me please. I want to know how to loose weight easily. I am 118 lbs and 5’3”.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I found this on this website. There are more tips and info.

1. If what you are eating has less than 1 carb, count it as 1 carb just to be sure.

2. Totally avoid caffine at least for the first two weeks on the program.

3. Drink a MINIMUM of 8 glasses of plain water or seltzer daily.

4. Don’t weigh yourself more than once a week

5. Take starting measurements as well as weight – sometimes you’ll lose inches before pounds

6. Avoid any type of “low carb” sweetener for the first two weeks

7. Don’t compare your loss to someone else’s – this is a YMMV thing (your milage may vary)

8. Stalls are common around the third week so don’t panic

9. If you follow your plan to the T and don’t lose, consider Candida as a possibility and avoid vinegar, cheese, mushrooms and any other fermented food

10. Have bloodwork done before starting so you have a comparison

11. Cholesterol can be elevated in the first few weeks til your body adjusts – make sure your doctor knows that you’re doing low carb and when you started

12. Don’t blame the diet if you don’t read your plan book — blame the diet if you don’t read the labels — Don’t blame the diet if you don’t follow the diet

Lizzie asks…

How much protein should i eat to gain muscle ?

I’ve been going to the gym daily because I’n trying to lose weight. I’ve lost about 15 pounds so far but my legs look so skinny! I heard protein helps rebuild muscles after a work out, how much protein should I be eating if Im 5’7 and weigh 157.
Any other information would be helpful! Thank you.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You’re getting a big dose of the usual bad information about protein. The fact is, unless you have a terrible diet, you are getting all the protein you need. Few people in the developed world don’t. And, if you do have a terrible diet, fix it. Don’t look to supplements. Bodybuilders don’t need 1 gram or protein per pound of body weight and neither do you.

Protein is the most misunderstood nutrient in bodybuilding. I don’t have the space to tell you all you need to know so I’ll just hit the high spots and if you need more info, you can message my Yahoo account.

60grams of protein per day is enough. Just make sure you’re eating a variety of protein bearing foods so you get all the essential amino acids.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Carol asks…

What are some tips for weight loss for teens?

I am an overweight teen, a 190 pound 15 year old, and don’t want to go on a traditional diet, but would like to make some healthy lifestyle choices to help with weight loss. Me and my best friend have decided to go to a local gym 4 times a week for 2 hours and swim every friday in the summer. What tips can you give me about easy changes to help me lose weight. PLEASE TAKE IT SERIOUSLY!!

weight loss cardiff answers:

I have lost 40 lbs. In 3 months and I know this will work. Eat small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, eat your last meal 2-3 hours before you go to sleep. Do not starve yourself or your body will go into survival mode where anything you eat will be turned into FAT. This will help you a lot but if you want more results you can exercise 3-4 days a week, include weight training and especially cardio (walking especially running). If you set your mind to lose the weight you will lose it and when you start seeing how good you look you’ll want to keep going.
Good Luck

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Ruth asks…

How do you become a dietitian?

I want to work in a hospital, wear scrubs, and be a dietitian. But I’m clueless on how to get there after high school. do i have to go to med. school? what do i major in my undergrad studies? i’m very confused.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I agree with the previous answer. The American Dietetics Association has the best answer for exactly which schools have the program for the DPD’s which stands for Didactic Programs in Dietetics. These are the core classes that you need to be eligible for the internship.

The internship varies from school to school. It is a unpaid 40 hours a week internship that is offered as a “class” at universities and colleges (meaning you are paying for the internship-excellent experience so worth the money). At the school that I am at they work for three months at a food service area learning to manage it and create menu plans for the masses (like at a cafeteria). Then, they work for three months at a low income clinic like a WIC clinic. The last rotation is spent in a hospital working at different areas like the burn unit or with cystic fibrosis patients (they have special dietary needs).

After the internship, you take an intense exam and become a registered dietitian.

As far as majoring for undergrad, it depends on your program. I went to a school that didn’t offer all of the DPD courses. I majored in Nutrition and Biology for my undergrad so most of the courses transferred over. The places on the ADA website (eatright.org) have programs that give you those DPD classes during your education. Most are called “food and nutrition” or “nutrition.”

You don’t have to go to med school.

I’d say check out:
http://eatright.org/cps/rde/xchg/ada/hs.xsl/career_2192_ENU_HTML.htm

Don’t worry, you’ll be in your scrubs soon enough helping plan those diets!
Good Luck
:o)

William asks…

How would you go about becoming a dietitian?

How would you go about becoming a dietitian, if you took a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in university, without an accredited Dietetics options? Would it just require writing an examination, and completing an internship? Any information is greatly appreciated.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Information is below.

Carol asks…

What are the requirements to become a dietitian in Michigan?

I want to go to school to become a dietitian but I’m not exactly where to look to find the requirements for being one and what you would go to school for. Like what type of degree you have to have and what schools in the lower peninsula of MI offer it, if any? Links to informative sites would be greatly appreciated! Thanks. :]

[I know this may not exactly be the best category for this topic but I was hoping maybe someone looking here might know.]

weight loss cardiff answers:

The Michigan Dietetic Association (MDA) has been serving Michigan citizens since 1929.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Donald asks…

How many calories should I eat a day to lose weight?

I hear so many different things. I tried to eat 1200-1300 calories a day but I was starving when I did that no matter how many fruits and vegetables I ate. But when I bumped it up to 1400 calories a day, I did not lose weight. I walk 45 minutes 3 days a week for exercise at a moderate pace (about 3.5 mph). I am 145 lbs and 5 ft 4 inches. I would like to get down to about 120 lbs.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Honestly you can eat as many calories as you want up to the normal 2,000 calories, as long as they are the right calories. Remember the right foods burn fat with no exercise. Protein and vegetables are the most important, no sweets or sodas and drink plant of water

Paul asks…

How much possible weight could i lose if i eat nothing but popsicles for 3 days?

I have been losing weight for my college graduation on Saturday but i still want to lose 5 more pounds by then. If i eat nothing but popsicles for 3 days and go for a walk for 40 minutes a day, could i lose the 5 pounds by Saturday?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Try raw food diet. It’s extremely healthy way to go, but only with consulting a doctor (take b12 supplements, take in lots of greens).
I lost 60 pounds in 2 months. That’s 1 pound a day, mate. And I didn’t lose muscle mass. Just hoovering raw veggies and fruits all day. You should avoid nuts and seeds for a while, they have bunch of calories.

Jared Leto used raw food to lose weight after his Chapter 27 movie. I said it all.
I’ve tried it. Only thing that’s missing in raw food is B12, so take alge pills or eat fish to get B12.
And eat everything. Don’t stick to particular foods.

John asks…

What are some better tricks for losing weight?

I’ve been trying so hard to lose weight lately. I have been cutting down on portions, eating healthier, and going to the gym 3 days a week, and I still haven’t really seen any results. Is there something more I need to be doing?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Here are a few tips;

WHEN to eat for losing weight…

• Eat (at least) three times a day.
Because when you eat only once a day, your metabolism gets slower than it already is! That’s the main reason. Sounds funny, but to lose weight… You must eat (the right things, of course)
• Eat low-fat, high-fiber foods such as salads and vegetable pastas.
• Your last meal should be before 18:00. Try.
OK, one apple after 18:00
• Don’t starve
Starvation is not good for losing weight, nor your health.
Starvation is the worse thing you can do in a weight loss diet.
• Try oatmeal instead of cornflakes for breakfast–eating oatmeal can help reduce cholesterol levels, and its high fiber content will keep you full longer.

WHAT to drink for losing weight…

• Drink 6-8 glasses of water every day !
Can be tap, plain, mineral, sparkling. I just love mineral sparkling water!
This improves your bowel, reduces the “hunger” sensation, and hydrates your skin. Your skin will look much better after the first weeks!
Don’t believe the slogan “water makes me fat”. Besides being stupid… You might get into serious troubles with your kidneys.
• Drink ONLY natural juices, freshly squeezed!
Don’t drink Coca Cola, Pepsi, and Sprite etc. During the diet. Even lite or light versions.
• Avoid those vending machines by carrying around your own healthful foods and leaving pocket change at home.

Exercise for losing weight…

• If you want quicker results – exercise would be good.
• Don’t just sit in front of the TV and eat peanuts…
I guarantee THIS won’t work for your weight loss…
• Start a regular exercise program and stick with it. Don’t be afraid of those sweat suits and Lycra pants!
• Start swimming. Swimming is an excellent exercise to get involved with, since it increases blood flow and uses muscles we don’t regularly use. Start a swimming program and try to do it 3 times a week. You will feel excellent and rejuvenated.
• Choose an exercise program that you enjoy, and don’t shun the unconventional. For instance, did you know that regular vigorous dancing is exercise too?
• Also Cardiovascular exercises such as running, jogging, or aerobics will help you lose that unwanted belly fat. Weight training can also help you lose body fat because the more muscle mass you have, the more ability your system has to burn body fat.

Good luck!
