How do low carb diets work if they’re high in fat?

I have been reading up on diets like the Atkins diet, and other low carb diets that people seem to love. My concern is that many of the foods that we are supposed to eat are really high in fat. Also, no milk? I thought dieters always stressed having lots of dairy in their diet.

Dairy can include cheese, yogurt, butter, etc. Milk is high in lactose (another type of sugar)

A high carb diet puts the body into “storage” mode which does not allow the fat stores to be released even if the body is not actively storing fat.

Dietary fats replace carbs for the body’s fuel source in a low carb diet. To keep the body in top fat burning condition, you must eat sufficient calories & they can only come from dietary fats for the body to properly release excess fat stores.

Low carb doesn’t work by starving the body but allowing it to function normally & a normal body doesn’t have excessive fat stores. So when it is in “normal” mode, it releases excess fat stores. A high carb diet forces the body to override normal systems. Carbs >9g per hour trigger insulin & when insulin dominates the blood stream, they don’t allow some other hormones to function properly.

Hi. This is my 30th week of pregnancy. I had to do the GCT test and it was high. Ma gynecologist prescribed tablets for reducing ma GCT count. But I heard from my few friends that there is no need to take medicines and we can control it by following diets. Can anyone tell me the proper diet to reduce the GCT count. If anyone knows then please suggest me the tips and diets to follow.

You’re not going to listen to a trained medical professional who went to college for like TEN YEARS to handle issues like this… But you’ll listen to your friends and to random strangers on Yahoo Answers as to how to treat something that can be dangerous to you and your baby?

My suggestion is listen to your doctor. Otherwise, why go to the doctor at all?

The Atkins diet is definitely unhealthy, but are there any other fad diets out there that work? I need to lose some weight, and I’ve tried a few of the diets out there, but most of them have made me into an even bigger fat stinking hog. Are there any that work?

Any drastic ways to lose weight in 2 weeks?

I’m 22yrs old and a guy. I am overweight but not by much. My brother’s wedding is in 2 weeks and all i’m looking for is a way to drastically lose weight in the next 2 weeks so I look better at the wedding and then after that I don’t mind as much about gaining the weight back. After the wedding I’ll have more time so I will try and stick to a diet.

** You should try drinking 8 to 16 ounces of water before each meal, this will fill you up and you will eat less, resulting in less calories at every meal. Weight loss pills are not very safe, at least water is safe. I know it may be hard at first to drink water, but you can add more and more everyday until it becomes easier, ( you will get used to it. I lost 50 pounds in three years and kept them off , I also walk for 20 minutes at least 5 times a week. Patience is needed,, if you want quick, this is not it, better to lose slowly than too fast (not healthy for your body) Well good luck too you, hope this helps.

P.S. I also think that the younger you are the faster you will lose weight, 50 years and up will take longer.

I am trying to lose 100 pounds but have a hard time sticking to losing weight, have any good advice?

I have been on and off diet plans for years and at 5 feet I now weight 215 pounds. I desperately need to lose weight but have a hard time staying focused. I can lose weight easily at the beginning but then I am always back to pizza and fried foods. I could use any help and advise out there. Just please don’t be rude or mean to me.

Hey! It seems like the problem is with your motivation and willpower. You said that you can easily lose weight at first, but then get tempted by foods like pizza.

I’m not going to give you more diet and exercise advice like everyone else here. It seems that you already know what you need to do. The problem is just in getting yourself to do it consistently.

It really helps to start asking yourself before you do anything: Is doing this going to take me close to or farther away from the person I want to be?

Ask yourself this question every time you feel the urge to eat something fried. Will this take me closer to the person I want to become? Ask yourself this question every time your are thinking about blowing off a workout. Will this take me closer to the person I want to become?

Is it really worth it to have that short-term gratification of the pizza? Or would you rather run into an old friend that you haven’t seen in a long time and see the look on their face when they see you 100 pounds skinnier?

I know you can do this! I’ve been there myself. All it takes is the willpower to get through those first few weeks. After that, you get in the habit of eating right and exercising and it just comes naturally.

Wrestling season is now over, so i’ve gained a bit of weight.
