Nancy asks…

What are some weight loss pills that have worked?

Anyone know any good weight loss pills that truly work? I’m 5’1 and almost 170lbs. Has anyone or known anyone that had any success with a certain pill? prescription or non?

Thanks!

weight loss cardiff answers:

Don’t start on those weight loss pills. They’re all addictive and I don’t care what their labels say, stay away from pills whatsoever.

There are other ways to lose weight that is much healthier for you. First thing’s first, consult your doctor if you are interested in losing weight. He might have suggestions to help you lose weight. He’ll put you on a diet. A diet’s much better instead of the pills. Drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fruits, vegetables. Eat lean meats, chicken, fish. Drink diet colas without caffeine. Caffeine is another reason for gaining weight. If you want to cut out colas, it’s best to do so. Cut back on coffee and if you smoke, stop for your health.

Laura asks…

Are you supposed to take weight loss pills before you work out?

Is there a time period I should be working out after taking the pill? Weight loss pill in question: ROXY LEAN.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Don’t bother – they don’t work

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Lisa asks…

Does anyone have a quick way to lose weight and ideas for distractions during the day?

I’m 16 and I weigh around 195 lbs. I always feel self-conscious around my friends but I don’t exactly feel fat. I don’t like that I’m unhealthy and I feel like I’d be happier if I weighed more of an average weight for my age and height. Unfortunately, I have a hard time with sticking to exercising and I almost kinda don’t want to admit that I have a problem and I need to work on it. I could easily cut out bad foods because we don’t have them around my house. My major problem is that I have snacks all the time. Not unhealthy snacks, but I do have a lot of them. I need something else to do with my time around the house that will keep me occupied and not thinking about my rumbling stomach. I’m also hoping to lose weight by the end of the summer so that I can be one of those miraculous summer transformations. I’ve always wanted to do that. Please say you have some way to help me!!

It would mean a lot to me if I could get your help. Thank you!

weight loss cardiff answers:

Oh honey, I can so hear the pain in your question. I have struggled with my weight since the age of 16 also.

I have a friend at work, her and I have been doing the Atkins diet. It really works and best of all, you get to eat foods that we were always taught were bad for us. I have lost 25 pound in just 6 weeks.

Go to www.atkins.com, read about the diet and it will explain to you how it works. If you have any questions, feel free to email me. I am a nurse and work during the day but I will answer any questions that I can. Hang in there, you’re beautiful no matter what size you are.

Maria asks…

What is the fastest way to lose weight without starving myself ?

I need to lose weight fast and am willing to do almost anything. I know starving myself is not healthy, so I do not want to go that route but any suggestions would be appreicated.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Liposuction!

No, seriously now. =] Change things in your life and you can easily drop a few, and a few more, and a few more.. Until you’re satisfied with your weight.

Stop eating fast food, it disrupts weight loss completely. You don’t need to cut it out completely, just look online at your favourite fast food restaurant’s websites at the nutrition information. Nearly all of them have it.
Salads are a good fast food choice, but with grilled chicken on top (if its chicken) and always look at the dressing packets. Ask for light or fat-free dressings with salads. Most of those little packets are 150 calories or less.

Next, cut out badbadbad carbs such as crackers, white bread, pasta, etc. Go for whole wheat/whole grain bread.

Cheese is another thing that disrupts diets. Unless you eat a very small amount or maybe part-skim if you can get it. Peanut butter is another thing you need to eat in smaller amounts. Maybe a tablespoon at a time? Spread on a stick of celery or for a sandwich on wholegrain bread.

SODA. SODA. Badbad! It’s amazing how many calories you can down from one soda can. Maybe diet soda? Coke zero tastes nearly exactly like regular soda with about 2 calories a can. Just don’t drink a lot, it’s still bad.

Drink water! It keeps you dehydrated, and full. Most people are just thirsty when they think they’re hungry, which is why they overeat. Eight 8oz glasses of water is what you should get in a day.

Measure things out. You can completely get 10x more calories in by simply eyeballing it.

Read packages. You don’t need to cut out your favourite foods completely. For example, a Chips Ahoy cookie only has 80 calories. Sure, an slightly high amount of fat but it’s a cookie. Eating two of those wouldn’t kill you.

And the most important thing.. WATER! Drink water. Water can keep you full, and even if you’re just having a small snack having some water with it will make it feel more like a big meal in your stomach.

Good luck! And I’m so glad to see someone tonight who /states/ they don’t want to starve themselves. That’s good. Very good.

Sharon asks…

How can I lose weight and make my hair grow back faster?

I had cancer and they gave me steroids, I gained so much weight.
People make fun of me and it hurts because I can’t help it. I want to be skinny again.
Is there a way I can lose weight fast? I’m not on steroids anymore and I’m cancer free.

My hair is grown back but really short and I’m tired of wearing wigs. Is there a vitamin I can take to make my hair grow faster?

Thanks 🙂

weight loss cardiff answers:

Weight from steroids comes off really easily. I lost 45 lbs in 4 months eating fruit and vegetables and walking endlessly.

Hair you just have to wait for. I have a collection of beautiful scarves that I rotate.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Donald asks…

How do you use caffeine pills safely for weight loss?

I want to lose a few pounds, and I’ve heard a lot about how caffeine pills make it easier to do so. However, I’ve been researching, and it seems they can become dangerous. I was wondering how to use them specifically for weight loss (I understand that having more energy is unavoidable, but that’s okay), but to do so safely. I’d love to hear firsthand stories.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Caffeine pills may be able to help enhance your weight loss, but it won’t work on its own.

To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you eat, it’s very simple math. Say you burn 2000 cals per day – then you need to eat less than that, somewhere around 1200-1500 cals per day. You should see results in a month or so, but everyone’s body is different.

Also, why not try a little cardio exercise? Just run or jog for 20-30 minutes, 5 days a week, and that in combination with the calorie diet will cause weight loss results.

Lisa asks…

How effective is mountain biking when it comes to weight loss?

I got a little heavy these last couple of years, and I am looking to work it all off. I am only a little chunky, not fat or anything, but I want the body I once had.

I go to the gym 3-4 times a week, its hard with school and work to go more than that, but I do own a nice mountain bike, and live right next to a mountain preserve, which there is MANY bike trails. It would be easier to take my bike out than drive to the gym.

But my question is, how effective is mountain biking? Is it a good form of cardio? I do weight training at the gym, usually an hour set sometimes longer. Will doing this help with fat // weight loss?

weight loss cardiff answers:

When it comes to weight loss its not a big help.

Laura asks…

What are some foods that are absolutely off limits for weight loss?

Just wondering. I’m having trouble with cravings like I’ll be good when I can control my own food and portions but my dad cooks supper for my family and makes things like baked potato, chicken nuggets, spaghetti and cheeseburgers but with lean beef. Really easy stuff he makes that I’m not sure is good for weight loss is it ok to eat these things and what would a typical weight loss supper look like?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Start checking the calories on EVERYTHING you eat (I recommend the Calorie King website). After a week or two, you’ll start to know without checking what you want to eat and what you don’t want to eat.

Compare those chicken nuggets against a chicken breast. At the SAME calorie count, which do you think would fill you up better … 3 chicken nuggets, or half (one side) of a roasted chicken breast (skin removed)?

Of COURSE you’re having trouble with cravings! You can’t eat enough to satisfy yourself with that kind of food. Not only that, but when you eat pasta, baked potato, and yes … Even the breading on the chicken nuggets (check out “high glycemic” foods), these foods are digested very quickly and rush into your bloodstream. You blood sugars go really high. Then your pancreas dumps a lot of insulin into the blood stream to remove the excess blood sugar … But you’ve digested all that fast-digesting food, so your body ends up lowering your blood sugar TOO much. Then you’re hungry and you have cravings.

It also helps to eat smaller meals, but eat 5 times per day. And to try to always have some protein, because it takes longer to feel hungry again when you’ve eaten some protein.

Better learn how to cook for yourself. Ask your dad if he can give you an allowance to buy your own food.

I am losing a pound a week … A healthy amount that does not harm my body and is not likely to be regained. Because of your age, you can probably eat 500 calories MORE per day than I and still lose a pound a week. But this is a sample day for me…

Breakfast … Instant low-calorie oatmeal with 1/2 cup of low-fat vanilla yogurt and 1/2 cup of fresh berries. And a banana.

Mid-morning … Whole wheat low-fat crackers and soft low-fat cheese. Slices of cucumber, a few cherry tomatoes, and a raw carrot. And, over the course of the morning, two cups of caffeine-free, unsweetened herbal tea.

Lunch … Half a whole wheat pita with sliced chicken breast (about 3 oz.), gobs of lettuce, cucumber slices, sliced onion, green pepper slices, and 1 Tablespoon low-fat Ranch dressing. Plus 1 cup skim milk, and 1/4 of a canteloupe.

Mid-afternoon … One slice of Weight Watcher’s wholegrain bread with 1 Tablespoon almond butter. Plus a nectarine and a stalk of celery.

Supper … Salmon baked in foil with fresh rosemary, a spash of white cooking wine and a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. Half a baked sweet potato with pepper. Lots of steamed broccoli and cauliflower with 1 pat of butter melted over it and a squeeze of lemon. One cup skim milk.

AND 8 cups of water a day.

I have not felt deprived on this diet. Everytime I am tempted to eat a baked good or something else fattening, I think about how many calories are in that item, how it will NOT put off hunger but will in fact increase my cravings … Easy to turn down.

I have lost 10 pounds in 9 weeks. My activity/exercise level would be rated as about halfway between “light” and “moderate”

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Linda asks…

How would you go about becoming a dietitian?

How would you go about becoming a dietitian, if you took a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition in university, without an accredited Dietetics options? Would it just require writing an examination, and completing an internship? Any information is greatly appreciated.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Becoming a Registered Dietitian requires a didactic education (classroom experience, like a nutrition degree) plus a dietetic internship and then passing the registration exam. The degree has to be from an accredited program, and the internship has to be accredited as well. There are lists of the accredited options online at the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics website (see Source 1 for a listing of accredited didactic programs and Source 2 for the listing of accredited dietetic internships). They are sorted by state/US territory.

The other pathway to becoming an RD is by attending a coordinated program which has the requirements of the didactic education and the internship (in this case called a supervised practice) all in one program (and then you take the exam). You can search those in that list that is on the AND website as well (see Source 3).

If you have a nutrition degree from a non-accredited program, you could go to graduate school and get a degree from one of many accredited programs, which are also listed on that website (Sources 1 and 3, select the checkbox for “Only programs that result in a graduate degree”).

Laura asks…

What are the difference between the different dietitians and nutritionists?

I want to be a dietitian or nutritionist when i grow up and i was wondering like: whats the difference between Clinical Dietitian, Dietitian, nutritionist, etc.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Dietitian can help you lose weight (or also gain it too), but they mostly help you get a healthy diet. Nutritionists help you learn what the food groups are, what you need the most of, what you need the least of, and help you make sure you are getting all the nutrition you need daily.
