If I eat normally, how many calories should i burn per week to lose weight?

Preferably like.. 3-5 pounds in one month? Also, i eat very irregularly, sometimes I don’t have that much to eat all day and sometimes I have a lot. So, basically, if i didn’t eat completely healthily and didn’t lower the amount i eat, how many calories per week should i burn through exercise to lose 3-5 pounds in one month?

1-3 pounds. 500 calories burned from exercise, plus all the calories you burn doing other activities, probably adds up to around 2000-2200. You need to burn 3500 calories to lose one pound. Your BMR is most likely around 1400, so burning a total of 2200 calories a day. Net burn is 800 calories a day times 7 days a week=5600. If you eat healthy, around 1200-1400 calories a day, closer to 1200, you could lose up to 3 pounds in a week.

How do you know you’re burning 7-800? Let’s assume that amount IS accurate–If you can measure your expenditure that accurately, then surely you can measure how many cals you’re eating, ’cause most foods these days have energy content printed on the package, or you can look it up on the web. Look up on Google or someplace what are 1) the energy requirements per day for a growing teenager, 2) what the resting energy expenditure is per day for someone like you, multiply this by 7 (7 days per week), then add the total to what you expend per week when you work out. That sum is your weekly energy expenditure. If you want to lose weight, eat fewer calories than you’re burning.

Lose 15-20 pounds EASILY!?

I desperately need a plan to help myself lose weight. I am a good 15 to 20 pounds overweight, and I would like to take it off rather quickly and have it stay off. Please provide a detailed plan, and keep in mind that I am a student who is taking several AP classes, so I don’t have much extra free time now that school has started.

I would like this weight to be gone by the end of December at the very latest, but preferably by the end of October. What can I do to get rid of this stubborn weight!?
I’m not going to go to a health food store, either–my car was totaled a few weeks ago and I have NO extra money for anything.

I’ve recently lost 55lbs since April 9 dong the following:

Do not eat over 2000 calories. Make your calories count. 2000 is a lot believe it or not. I kept my food intake as fat free as possible. And here is the kicker for true success…get a diet journal and write what you eat down. You’ll be amazed of how easy it is.

Staple foods with this plan is a lot of chicken breast. Vegetables in the frozen section have a lot to offer that are very low calorie. Snack items…sugar free jello gelatin, sugar free jello pudding. Fresh fruit. 100 calorie snack packs make it easy to keep track.

I lost 21lbs my first month by doing the above and I did not exercise at all. Your weight loss does slow down after this initial period so incorporating some sort of physical activity is essential if you really want to kick it up a notch.

my freinds always slap me when i tell them im fat but i think i am. im 15 and 5’7. i weigh 185… excercise has never really been a problem. i play travel and school softball so i stay active most of the year. i run on my own and do crunches and sit ups in my free time. i do my best to eat healthy but i dont have much will power wen it comes to that. ive gained a lot of muscle in the past year but i am still having trouble losing the fat around my stomach butt and thighs. i really want to get rid of a lot of the weight b4 christmas. i wuld like to b around 130 pounds by the end of the year but im not sure wat exactly i shuld b doing to help me lose that weight. wat shuld i b eating that i can easily burn of running and playing sports and wat gives a lot of u guys good motivation?

Just try to eat healthier. Don’t try to “diet”. Just think about what your eating and come up with healthier alternatives. You say you exercise a lot. This would build up muscle which is denser than fat so fat builds on top of muscle. Crunches and sit-ups would build more muscle in your abs which fat could hide. Just try to eat more vegetables and fruits and less junk foods.

Yes, I’ve noticed those things and many more. Being a nurse, I also hate when people answer a health question by looking up some info on the net, using cut and paste, then state “I’m a doctor” under source — and the big medical words look impressive but the answer is totally off in left field. I suppose we all have to just wade through the BS if we can…

I have a couple of water bottles next to the couch.. Each time I sit on the couch I pick them up and lift them up and down.
It is boring and it seems useless to do but if you get used to do it,., after just 20 minutes you will start sweating and your arm will get tired.
Just change arm and carry on, eventually it will become automatic and you might even want to progress to some dumbells, maybe a little bit heavier than the water bottle.

I had great success a few years ago when I tried the Atkin’s diet. I followed it to the letter and lost around two stones in six weeks. If you follow it properly, and increase your carbs gradually, the weight stays off and you can eventually eat what you like without gaining any weight. I believe that it works by starving your body of carbs, when you introduce them agian, bit by bit, your body breaks them down and you gain no more weight. Obviously, some decent excercise is a must to rid yourself of any “loose, hanging bits” that appear when you lose so much, so fast. It certainly worked for me…
