Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Susan asks…

I am trying to lose 100 pounds but have a hard time sticking to losing weight, have any good advice?

I have been on and off diet plans for years and at 5 feet I now weight 215 pounds. I desperately need to lose weight but have a hard time staying focused. I can lose weight easily at the beginning but then I am always back to pizza and fried foods. I could use any help and advise out there. Just please don’t be rude or mean to me.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hey! It seems like the problem is with your motivation and willpower. You said that you can easily lose weight at first, but then get tempted by foods like pizza.

I’m not going to give you more diet and exercise advice like everyone else here. It seems that you already know what you need to do. The problem is just in getting yourself to do it consistently.

It really helps to start asking yourself before you do anything: Is doing this going to take me close to or farther away from the person I want to be?

Ask yourself this question every time you feel the urge to eat something fried. Will this take me closer to the person I want to become? Ask yourself this question every time your are thinking about blowing off a workout. Will this take me closer to the person I want to become?

Is it really worth it to have that short-term gratification of the pizza? Or would you rather run into an old friend that you haven’t seen in a long time and see the look on their face when they see you 100 pounds skinnier?

I know you can do this! I’ve been there myself. All it takes is the willpower to get through those first few weeks. After that, you get in the habit of eating right and exercising and it just comes naturally.

You can do this!

Good luck.

what are fast and easy ways to lose weight?

I wouldnt say i am fat, but i want to weigh less since most of the girls in my school are super skinny. Are there any ways for me to lose weight easily without completely starving myself and working out until i pass out. I already do work out and diet, but are there any specific things i should be doing?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Cut out your carbs. You don’t have to measure or count anything. Well count no more than 20 carbs per day. No more rice, bread, pasta, peanutbutter, potatos for a month or two.

Effective and quick ways to lose weight and tone up for a Holiday?

Hello! I am looking for some ways of losing weight and toning up quickly for my holiday in two weeks. I’m not fat, but I would like to lose some weight and tone up effectively for swimming and sunbathing! I am 5foot 3inches and weight about 10st6, and I am losing weight slowly at home, my target weight is 8.5st – 9st. I know that probably isn’t feasible within two weeks, but I just want to look good for my holiday.

Any tips? Thank you! No time wasters please!

weight loss cardiff answers:

Not rocket science, replace unhealthy food for healthy food and do running/jogging daily

Lizzie asks…

How to lose weight in your thighs and stomach fast?

I’ve noticed that I’ve been getting a little chubby in the stomach and thigh areas. I wouldn’t call myself fat, but I definitely want to lose some weight before my best friends pool party and school in August! Any tips to lose that weight quickly?

weight loss cardiff answers:

When you are losing weight, you should exercise and diet together.
If you exercise without dieting, you will get bigger appetite, which
will lead to increase of weight, or muscle grow
underneath the fat layer, and make you bulkier. If you diet without
exercising, you will become flabby and will have excess skin. For
diet, go wheat free. No pasta, pizza, bread and so on. And no food
after 7 p.m. People achieve marvellous results with it. Depending on
your initial weight, you can drop upwards from 20 pounds a month. If
you don’t eat wheat then you don’t eat all those sticky, fatty goey
cakes, you don’t eat junk food, and you don’t eat biscuits. But your
diet is still balanced. It costs nothing, and you do not have to
calculate points or to buy special meals or plans. For exercising,
start with walking, and then switch to running/jogging. Running is the
most efficient and calorie-burn exercise ever. If you are overweight a
lot, walk first or you may have health complications (heart attack,
disjointed bones and so on). Weight lifting is a good means to target
your problem areas for men and women. It’s not necessarily to become a
bodybuilder or even join a gym – a couple of dumbbells will help you
to target your problem areas (stomach, butt, legs, arms, chest).

Maria asks…

How long does it take to lose weight from a single workout?

My question is on a few different levels. Please feel free to be longwinded because I really want to learn about this.

I’ve been losing weight over the last 2 months on diet alone. I’ve lost about 12 pounds this way. I understand how this works – you can lose weight by reducing caloric intake and changing the types of foods you eat.

What I want to understand is how exercise makes you lose weight. I have the beginnnings of understanding on this – that you’re burning calories with the exercise…like if you eat 1400 calories in a day and you burn 300 then your body only thinks you have eaten 1100, right?

But then how do all those old calories come off? The ones from three months ago that made me gain weight?

On the same vein, if i’ve only been losing weight with diet (steadily), and then i have one really good workout, when will it be reflected in my weight? I’m not saying I expect to lose all my weight with one workout, I’m trying to simplify the question.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You burn calories at rest. The higher your metabolism, the more calories you will burn while exercising, and the more you will burn at rest, the idea is to raise your metabolism.
If you just QUIT eating, your body will go into starvation mode and think to itself “HEY no food coming in… All systems SLOW down we need to conserve what we’ve got” So you have to eat.

If you have good muscle tone it is your goal not to lose it. You want to gain muscle and lose fat. Muscle also weighs more than fat, so instead of going so much by the ‘scale’, you should be judging progress by how your clothes fit instead.

So a person needs to eat… Healthily. Every 4 hours, so you dont have that low blood sugar ‘crashing’ thing going on. No sugar, little fat, a lot of greens and veggies, drink much fluids (64 ounces a day plus an extra 8 ounces for every 20 pounds overweight), a ‘deck of cards’ sized portion worth of protein every day (only one day a week red meat) and complex carbohydrates (whole grains).
IF you are taking in less food than the 2500 calories a person of normal weight would eat, then it is logical to assume you would be taking in less vitamins than you need, SO you need a daily vitamin supplement.
The ideal exercise regimen would include 30 minutes of walking daily, three times a week aerobic training (get heart-rate up)
and two or three times a week weight training. All this can be done at home (without a gym) but a gym with a personal fitness trainer is always nice. Oprah has one, why shouldn’t YOU?
Also don’t forget about:
-stress (dont need that… Laughter best medicine, stay in good humor, be happy)
-rest (need to sleep and get those REMs)
-not smoking
-little alcohol or caffiene

I also say that you should do things to make yourself happy, like a nice hair trim (trip to salon for facial manicure pedicure etc.)
buy a nice new shirt every time you lose five pounds and get your teeth bleached at the dentist office.
Good luck on reaching your goal and congratulations on your progress thus far.

Michael asks…

Can anyone give me the best free weight loss plans?

I need to loose 6 1/2 lbs. a week for 3 months so could anyone give some ideas on the best way to do it. I don’t care whether its healthy or not.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You need to realise that if you choose unhealthy ways to lose weight that a) you will only lose weight for a small period of time b) you will do your body serious damage.

Everyone has the potential to lose weight fast. Unfortunatly fast weight loss is bad weight loss. There is a huge difference between ‘fat loss’ and ‘weight’ loss.

Dramatic weight loss is shockingly bad for you. This wrecks your metabolism and irreversibly damages your immune system. When faced with an intensive calorie restriction, your brain immediately thinks you are starving and sends your body directly into famine mode.

If you were to lose lets say 20 pounds fast through unhealthy weight loss only around 12 pounds of that will be fat, 6 pounds will be muscle and the rest water.

Water will return quickly (meaning weight gain) and more importantly we need muscle to aid in weight loss. Muscle is a very active tissue, it burns up to 50 extra calories per pound, per day

If you choose to lose weight through unhealthy methods than don’t expect permanent weight loss or a healthy body.

This following website gives you the tools you need to develop a healthy lifestyle and maintain it for a lifetime.

Good luck and all the best with your weight loss goals

The following healthy living recommendations will help you if you’re trying to lose weight, tone up your muscles, have aspirations of building lean muscle mass, are attempting to get a wash board stomach, or just want to feel better:

*1) Burn more calories then you’re consuming everyday and measure your results using the following formula: Calories Consumed minus Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) minus Physical Activity. Get a diet and fitness calculator that you can put on your computer or cell phone. This will allow you to easily calculate this formula, set goals, log your daily calorie consumption, and register your physical activities.

*2) Eat natural and organic foods found on earth versus something created by a corporation to make money. Eat meals in small portions throughout the day and take a good multi-vitamin supplement.

Avoid “High Glycemic Load Carbs” (sugar, pastries, desserts, refined starches such as breads, pasta, refined grains like white rice; high starch vegetables such as white potatoes) and drink lots of water.

Do not try fad diets or diet pills. Here is an excellent food pyramid that anyone can follow: http://www.rayandterry.com/html/images/PyramidLRG.gif?osCsid=26a424be471d1337e7c2f105d5c64d9d

*3) Exercise on most days by doing cardiovascular training and/or resistance training activities.

Read a book or find a certified trainer to make sure your doing all resistance training exercises correctly. A great book to buy that teaches you the resistance training basics is “Weight Training for Dummies”. A superb magazine to buy with resistance training routines that will not get you bored is “Muscle and Fitness”. Signup for the free newsletter. An excellent free online resource is at http://www.exrx.net/

A good book to buy that teaches you the cardiovascular training basics is “Fitness for Dummies”.

*4) Get plenty of sleep. Sleep experts say most adults need between seven and nine hours of sleep each night for optimum performance, health, and safety.

*5) Educate yourself continually on health issues and make a life long commitment to good health. A great free publication is “Dietary Guidelines for Americans 2005”. A superb book to read is “You The Owner’s Manual”. An excellent periodic publication is the “Nutrition Action Health Letter”. A reputable test you can take to measure your biological age is at http://realage.com

Look at all areas where you can enhance your health. For example, make improvements in the quality of the air you breathe. Review outdoor air quality forecasts where you live and get an indoor air purifier. Email me if you want a good indoor air purifier recommendation and if you have other questions.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Susan asks…

Is it possible to lose weight while your pregnant?

Obviously, you gain weight while your pregnant, but is it possible to lose weight?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Yes, I did. With my first son. I gained a total of30 pounds during the pregnancy (baby weight only) and when I checked my weight at 4 weeks post-partum, I was 40 pounds lighter. You could tell during the pregnancy that I was losing as well because my arms got skinnier. I did not do this on purpose, I’m just diabetic and was forced to eat extremely healthy to maintain my sugars.

Lisa asks…

is there a safe way to lose weight while pregnant?

Currently i would be considered obese… i am VERY concerned that my weight will become a problem further along in my pregnancy. (especially if I do gain more weight.) can anyone help?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Oh there are definitely healthy ways to lose weight while pregnant. The problem comes into play with the lack of vitamins and nutrients that come about with dieting and how much is weight and how much is fluids, so the best way to check is to ask the OB doctor. They have guidelines and menus even that you can work with and know that you’re doing the very best for your baby nutrient wise as well as taking care of your health. Walking is very good for you as well and helps with the labor also, just don’t overdo it. Check with the OB and good luck ok?

Mary asks…

Can you lose weight while your pregnant?

I heard that some woman actually lose weight while they are pregnant. By eating right and working out. With my first daughter I gained 100lbs and really don’t want to do that again. What kinds of food should I eat, so that the baby gets enough nutrients but still help me stay at a lower weight? What kinds of exercises can I do that won’t harm the baby?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Get a pregnancy exercise video and do that – it will be safe for the baby.
Walking will also be really good.
Eat healthy foods – veggies and fruits, avoid sugar and excess carbs.
You can probably limit your calorie intake to 2300 a day (2000 is normal plus 300 extra calories for pregnancy).
If you eat out then just one meal alone can have as much as 2000 or more calories in it!
So avoid eating out as much as possible.
Drink lots of water and eat when you are hungry and don’t when you’re not.
You can always ask your doctor for suggestions, and he may even set you up with a dietitian.
Good luck!
