Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Thomas asks…

Weight loss and getting fit. Any tips?

Hi. I am almost 15 years old and I would like to know some ways for losing weight and getting fit. I have a lot of time on my hands as it is my school holidays at the moment. I have acess to a basic gym, my bike, roller blades, skipping rope and dogs, but i need someone to help me put together the best ways for me to integrate all these things so i can lose weight and get fit easily.

Please, i dont want anyone telling me that im a teenager and shouldn’t be worrying about my weight, i just want to feel better about myself.

Just in case it could help; I’m 165 cm tall and i weigh approximately 54kg.

Also, i dont want to try any of the ‘colon cleansers’ or anything like taking pills and stuff like that. I am only interested in exercise and what i eat to help me lose weight.

Any tips would be welcome!
🙂
Thanks

Have you checked your body mass index or asked a medical person about your weight. At 15 you ARE in a transition stage and they have charts that can tell you where you are in the typical range.

Http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/bmi-m.htm is a Body Mass Index chart but you should read the limitations from the link at the bottom. According to it, at 20, you are at the lower end of normal range of 18.5 to 25. BMI calculators based on height and weight are notoriously inaccurate but can give a general idea of your level. It cannot tell if the weight is due to muscle or fat, that is where a doctor or nurse can help you.

You aren’t likely to loose more weight but getting fit is always good and will tone your body so that it looks lighter. You may actually gain a little weight but looks thinner as fat changes to muscle.

Do a little weight training with the gym. Some light work with weights and maybe both them and a balance ball to improve your core balance. This will help define your upper body.

Get out your bike and skates a couple times a week for at least 1/2 hour and preferably for an hour to develop your cardio fitness. This will give you endurance.
The skates will also do a lot to improve your core balance and help shape the lower body and legs.
Biking actually uses different muscles than the skates, so it is good to get out on each occasionally.
The cardio workout from both bikes and skates is very defendant on how fast you move (wind resistance is the largest part of the workout).
You want to be pushing hard enough to raise your pulse rate but stay just below your aerobic threshold.
The easy way locate the threshold is that below it you will be able to hold a conversation (even if it is just with yourself but doing this with friends is more fun). When you get up to your threshold, it will be more difficult to say more than a few words at a time. When you go over the threshold, you will only be able to go a little bit farther before getting very tired (good for sprints for short distances). If you go over your threshold, you will need to slow down to get significantly below it for a while so that your body can clear out the lactic acid in your muscles before getting back up to speed.

Linda asks…

Can I lose all that weight in this time?

I am 16 and (five feet three inches) 210 pounds. I don’t look that overweight, people guess that I am a lot less overweight. But I know how much I weigh and it bothers me. I’ve started using this DVD dance routine called Hip-Hop Abs. I know…its funny but my point is, I just started this today. How much do you think I can lose by June. I really want to have a good summer. Moving easily and looking good in a swimsuit. Do you think I might look good by summer. There is a guy coming to my city in the summer, and it bothers me to think how surprised he’ll be if he notices that I gained weight. I think he won’t say anything, but that is not what I’m asking advice on. I just want to know about my weight issue. Also, I am changing my eating habits, mostly by drinking water and more fruits and veggies. I never really ate that much it was mostly the not eating what I need and exercising that was the problem. If I may ask of everyone, please don’t make fun of this, I am very emotional as it is…this is not a joke, this is real. I want to have the experience of a normal teenager, can anyone please be serious. Thank you!!!
I don’t know what to say guys, thank you very much…I don’t know who to choose, Katiescian or Lauren. You both had very supporting answers and I feel really good about this. If any one else has more comments, please go ahead, I need all the support I can have!!!!

weight loss cardiff answers:

Try focusing on enjoying the DVD & eating properly & the weight will come right off. The more you stress about trying to lose weight, the harder it will be! Keep your goals, but don’t go over board.

Gaining weight question…?

My friend told me that its normal for a teenager to gain weight while going through puberty because your body is so out of control you gain weight easily is this true? And once your an adult, can the weight be lost quickly?

weight loss cardiff answers:

It is kind of true I mean all girls dont experience the same thing. But from my experience yes. From about 12 until 15 I gained alot well now I think about it,it wasn’t much lol, but yes it was more less out of shape looking. Around 16 it all straighten back out looked healthier and smaller. And it stayed that way until I had kids LOL!!! Hope that helps

John asks…

What are the best weight loss pills for women?

I am 18 years old,5’5 and I weigh 115 pounds. This is about average..but I want to tone up my stomach a little bit and shed maybe like 4 pounds in that area. I heard that weight loss pills help, but I will be working out alongside the pills. So what would be the safest thing that would give me the most energy in my workout.. thanks!

weight loss cardiff answers:

I’m a second year med student, and we actually JUST talked about weight loss today in a clinical management class.

Given your height and weight, your BMI (body mass index) is 19.15. That is WONDERFUL. Your weight is completely normal. You have absolutely 0 need to consider taking a diet pill. Just FYI, BMI is the standard calculation used by doctors to determine if people are at a healthy weight given their height. A BMI < 18 is underweight, 18-25 is normal, 25-30 overweight, and 30+ is considered obese. As you can see, your BMI falls on the lower end of normal. If you were to lose weight it could be unhealthy for your growth and development, and cause different problems for you.

From what you said you desired to do (lose 4 pounds and tone up your abs), those goals can be accomplished by doing ab workouts at home for 5-10 minutes a day before you go to sleep on the floor of your room, and taking out one piece of junk food per day and substituting it for a healthier alternative. If you're already working out, just make sure you do a brief ab workout daily (your abs can take it) and you'll see improvement in no time. Also, make sure your form for crunches/sit-ups/leg lifts is good. So many people THINK they're doing a good ab workout but it is completely useless. You have to mix things up and do different exercises for your abs or your body will get used to what you are doing and you will see very little benefit from continued training.

Also, it is considered medically unhealthy to lose more than 1-2 pounds per week. So don't try to drop 4 pounds in 4 days, it won't last.

Jenny asks…

My doctor told me there is no weight loss pills on the market?

I am about 70 lbs over normal weght and when went to my doctor he told me there is no weight loss pills on the market. I am thinkng how can that be? They have medicine for everything!

And I am not relying on pills I do diet and excersize, this would just be additonal help.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I highly recommend forgetting about the weight loss pills. This is going to be one of the biggest wastes of your life. It’s not that they won’t work, because they do, but in the end, you must rely on them. And the moment you start seizing to take them, you will gain your weight back. In fact, you will gain more than you actually lost in the first place. Many people make this mistake, and they wonder how they got there, but actually, it’s really not that hard to understand. So just stick with WATCHING WHAT YOU EAT (not exactly DIETING) and exercising and exercising and exercising. I wish you luck with your weight loss! And for the best results, I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND P90X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This workout is definitely intense, and you need to totally commit if you want such great results. Good luck!!!

Mary asks…

Do you think weight loss pills are a good solution?

Some friends suggested to try some weight loss pills in order to lose about 20lb. i`m not overweight but still wanna lose some weight, i`m really busy, don`t have time to go to the gym or follow a regular workout. What should I do? Do you think weight loss pills are a good solution? Thanks for answering.

weight loss cardiff answers:

You wanna take weight loss pills for only 20lb u wanna get rid of? Be serious, cut the snacks at work, use the elevator instead if the stairs, take the bus home, walk in the park during weekends, and you`ll see results. You can count your calories. I use the diet and fitness planner at projectweightloss.com – it`s real good, has lotsa meals to choose from and helps you see how much you eat and now much you burn. All u have to do is to keep what you burn on top of what you eat.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Sharon asks…

Losing weight by cutting calories? Please answer!!?

I know if you limit your calories you can lose weight…I think I was born doing that because I usually eat less than 1,000 per day (500-700 depending on if I cook dinner) which makes you think I’d gain weight easily if I don’t lose it from cutting cals…wrong…I lose weight easily but I seem to stay at the same amount, meaning if I try and gain weight, the next week it’s all gone, if I lose a few pounds I gain it back but a little slower than losing what I’ve gained, if that makes sense. I want to try and lose 20 pounds so I can shop a little easier for lingerie.

Please see my previous question regarding my stats – http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=At3JTFaTnJfL.UR7k0RzZl3sy6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20071227160810AAY0nQc

So how many calories do I need to cut each day in order to do this? I currently exercise 3-5 days a week for 15-20 minutes doing cardio and some toning, should I increase this or stop altogether?
If I eat too much food/calories, I feel sluggish, so I eat until I feel satisfied, which included veggies, very little meat as I hate the taste and texture and I try to eat fruit everyday. Why does my body hate me? 🙁

weight loss cardiff answers:

First of all, I believe you’re eating too little. You should eat at least 1200 calories per day depending on your height and weight. By eating only minimal calories, you are in turn slowing down your metabolism which will eventually cause you to not be able to burn fat. Be sure to eat lean things like chicken and tuna, with plenty of fruits and veggies in between. I think you should also turn up your cardio sessions (at least 30-45 minutes) and then do you toning routine. I really hope this helps you. 🙂
