Does anyone have a quick way to lose weight and ideas for distractions during the day?

I’m 16 and I weigh around 195 lbs. I always feel self-conscious around my friends but I don’t exactly feel fat. I don’t like that I’m unhealthy and I feel like I’d be happier if I weighed more of an average weight for my age and height. Unfortunately, I have a hard time with sticking to exercising and I almost kinda don’t want to admit that I have a problem and I need to work on it. I could easily cut out bad foods because we don’t have them around my house. My major problem is that I have snacks all the time. Not unhealthy snacks, but I do have a lot of them. I need something else to do with my time around the house that will keep me occupied and not thinking about my rumbling stomach. I’m also hoping to lose weight by the end of the summer so that I can be one of those miraculous summer transformations. I’ve always wanted to do that. Please say you have some way to help me!!

Oh honey, I can so hear the pain in your question. I have struggled with my weight since the age of 16 also.

I have a friend at work, her and I have been doing the Atkins diet. It really works and best of all, you get to eat foods that we were always taught were bad for us. I have lost 25 pound in just 6 weeks.

I need to lose weight fast and am willing to do almost anything. I know starving myself is not healthy, so I do not want to go that route but any suggestions would be appreicated.

No, seriously now. =] Change things in your life and you can easily drop a few, and a few more, and a few more.. Until you’re satisfied with your weight.

Stop eating fast food, it disrupts weight loss completely. You don’t need to cut it out completely, just look online at your favourite fast food restaurant’s websites at the nutrition information. Nearly all of them have it.
Salads are a good fast food choice, but with grilled chicken on top (if its chicken) and always look at the dressing packets. Ask for light or fat-free dressings with salads. Most of those little packets are 150 calories or less.

Next, cut out badbadbad carbs such as crackers, white bread, pasta, etc. Go for whole wheat/whole grain bread.

Cheese is another thing that disrupts diets. Unless you eat a very small amount or maybe part-skim if you can get it. Peanut butter is another thing you need to eat in smaller amounts. Maybe a tablespoon at a time? Spread on a stick of celery or for a sandwich on wholegrain bread.

SODA. SODA. Badbad! It’s amazing how many calories you can down from one soda can. Maybe diet soda? Coke zero tastes nearly exactly like regular soda with about 2 calories a can. Just don’t drink a lot, it’s still bad.

Drink water! It keeps you dehydrated, and full. Most people are just thirsty when they think they’re hungry, which is why they overeat. Eight 8oz glasses of water is what you should get in a day.

Measure things out. You can completely get 10x more calories in by simply eyeballing it.

Read packages. You don’t need to cut out your favourite foods completely. For example, a Chips Ahoy cookie only has 80 calories. Sure, an slightly high amount of fat but it’s a cookie. Eating two of those wouldn’t kill you.

And the most important thing.. WATER! Drink water. Water can keep you full, and even if you’re just having a small snack having some water with it will make it feel more like a big meal in your stomach.

I had cancer and they gave me steroids, I gained so much weight.
People make fun of me and it hurts because I can’t help it. I want to be skinny again.
Is there a way I can lose weight fast? I’m not on steroids anymore and I’m cancer free.

My hair is grown back but really short and I’m tired of wearing wigs. Is there a vitamin I can take to make my hair grow faster?

Weight from steroids comes off really easily. I lost 45 lbs in 4 months eating fruit and vegetables and walking endlessly.

Hair you just have to wait for. I have a collection of beautiful scarves that I rotate.

How do I lose weight rather then gain weight when exercising?

Every time I exercise I gain muscle weight but I want to lose 10 lbs. I’m running a 5k in a month and I need to start running to prepare. I exercise now almost every day and do sit ups to and abs slide to flatten my stomach. Normally I use the gazelle or I ride my bike for exercise. How do I lose weight rather than gain? More importantly is are you losing inches? Muscle weighs more then fat so you could be more slender and look fitter even if your weight has not changed or gone up slightly. Also losing weight is decreasing calories and increasing exercise, If you have not changed your eating habits an increase in exercise will not lower your weight in the way that you want.

The reason you are gaining weight is because you are trying to lose weight to quickly. You are young so 120 is very healthy. To lose some weight (not that you need to at all) you should be sleeping 9 hours a night, not eating unhealthy foods, get some exercise.

Take your weight in pounds and multiply it by 10. That is the MINIMUM amount of calories you should eat. Eat just above that amount to stimulate healthy, sustained weight loss. I recommend lean meat and green vegetables; they will help you stay full and avoid overeating.

However, without exercise, you will lose muscle just as easily as you lose fat, so your body composition will not improve. You will look “skinny-fat”. Do some heavy weightlifting if you want to keep your muscle mass.

Is it possible to lose 1lbs to 2lbs a week with exercise? Is it realistic?

I am being told the average person should lose only 2lbs a month with or without exercise and the weight stays off longer. I am also being told that it is impossible to lose 50lbs in 7 to 8months because of this rule. Is all this true??? I can understand losing only 1lb a week, but the 2lbs a month sounds ridiculous. I am trying to lose weight and I want to know if this is true or not. If it’s true why?

I have been losing two or more pounds a week without exercising, so what you have been told is very untrue and I am 30 years old so my metabolism isn’t as fast as it used to be. Also, the more you have to lose, the faster the weight will come off so you can easily lose 50 pounds in 7 or 8 months.

You need to boost your metabolism back up to where it used to be. I am over 45, and lost 25 in 5 months by doing it the old-fashioned way; exercise and calorie counting.

I worked up to going to aerobics classes 5 days per week, and lifted weights every other day. I limited my calorie intake to 1200 per day and made sure I ate healthy foods and took multi-vitamins.

I am now a size 3, down from a size 12, and my muscles are extremely well-defined and sexy. I get whistles from the college boys now. The first couple months I started this I hated it, but I forced myself to go NO MATTER WHAT every day, and by the fourth month I started to see and feel a huge difference. Sure, the Atkins has a metabolic effect by lowering carb intake, but everyone I know who has tried Atkins has ALSO reduced their calories (even if they didn’t do it consciously). They find themselves ordering the steak dinner at a restaurant and discarding the baked potato. Well, that jumbo backed potato has several hundred calories. If you eat your steak, green vegetable, and a soup, but skipped the potato – what have you done? Reduced calories!

With all these juice diets and soup diets — weight watchers — and all the rest — add them up! People doing these things are eating less!

People! Eat less and eat right! That’s the way to do it. Don’t do Atkins or juice diets. Don’t starve yourself. Take in 500 calories a day less than you burn, and you WILL lose weight.

To put it more exactly, less calories go in than go out. You could eat 3000 calories a day, as long as you were burning 3500 calories and you’d lose weight.

If you are a completely inactive slug, you may need to consider eating next to nothing. On the other hand, if you engage in vigorous aerobic exercise every day, you can continue to eat what you used to eat in your former lazy slug life and you will probably lose plenty of weight.

To put it another way: “get off your @ss and deal with it!”
