Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

John asks…

Do I have to constantly be running to lose weight?

So, the big thing is that in order to lose weight, running is the best thing to do. All the weight loss articles talk about how you should run for a certain amount of miles or for a certain amount of time, but I can only do very little right now.

I’ve been using the track in my college’s gym to try to lose weight. I can only jog once around before I get physically exhausted. Then, I walk a lap, then I return to jogging again for another lap, and this routine continues for about 45 minutes. I was wondering if by doing this jog-walk-jog-walk routine 5 times a week will help me lose weight.

Physical activity is much less important to weight loss than the way you eat. Physical fitness and exercise are important for overall health, but your diet is the largest contributor to your weight.

In terms of using exercise to support weight loss in addition to healthy eating habits, running is not the best thing to do. Your exercise should include a variety of things, not just cardio, if you want the most bang for your buck.

What you are doing works very well for improving cardiovascular fitness, the combination of running and walking is typically the best way for a beginner to improve.

Carol asks…

If I start running around 5 miles a day, am I going to lose weight or gain muscle?

Basically my question is: Am I going to lose weight from running, or am I gonna gain weight from the muscle I may gain?
I read that you don’t gain muscle from just running alone. Is that true? I need to condition for cross country if I’m trying out next year but I don’t wanna be big and bulky and man-looking and weigh 10 pounds more from all the muscle running might give

weight loss cardiff answers:

If you run five miles everyday you will lose weight. You don’t really gain muscle from running. Your legs will build up more muscular endurance and some strength but that’s it. Welcome to the painful world of running. I’ve been doing track and cross country for 6 years now. I don’t have much trouble falling asleep

Donald asks…

How do you lose weight running cross country?

I have been doing cross country for a few weeks and I have not lost any weight at all. I have gotten so much better at running though. Is there a way I could lose weight but still keep getting better at running? I get much more hungry after running because I burn so many calories at our workouts. About how much should I eat each day? I am aiming to lose 20 lbs and I burn about 700-1000 calories per workout 6x a week. Thanks

Well, you could be developing some muscle. Muscle tissue weighs more than fat, so…

What’s a better way to lose weight running or jogging?

I heard that you can lose weight faster by jogging versus cardio (running) by keeping your heart rate at a certain beats per minute. Is this correct? I’ve been running about 6 miles/day 5-6 days/week and have not been able to lose weight. What am I doing wrong here?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Try a rowing machine instead as this does the whole body also try eating a bowl of bran flakes for lunch instead of a sandwich
also try this

Helen asks…

What is better if you want to lose weight – running or walking?

I have regular use of a treadmill aiming to lose a few kilo’s and am wondering if running is better than walking to lose weight.

weight loss cardiff answers:

I would say a combination of both running and walking would be most effective. Running tends to put more stress on the joints and can cause pain, whereas walking is less stressful and you still do burn calories, even if it’s at a slower rate. I would try walking for 2 or 3 minutes, then bumping the speed up gradually. Gradual changes though, so your heart has a chance to accellerate for the amount of work you’re doing. Plus you’ll be able to run for longer if you gradually step up to running speed. Good luck though!
