It is a time-honored tradition to make resolutions at this time of year. If your resolution is to lose weight – and keep it off, then keep reading! Here are six simple tips that will have you losing weight in a balanced and healthy way.

1. Lose weight with water.
Water is essential for everybody – it is also the key to losing weight. If you haven’t been drinking enough water, your body has developed a pattern of storing water. This water retention equals extra unwanted weight.

By drinking more water, you are not only flushing out toxins, you are also teaching your body that it no longer needs to store water. Drink at least 60 ounces of water (about 8 glasses) a day. Boil water and sliced lemons, and drink this throughout the day to help with fluid retention. If you are still not sold on the merits of water, try this on for size: water is a natural appetite suppressant.

2. Soup up your weight loss program.
A simple dietary change will have you shedding pounds: eat a bowl of soup at least once a day. Nutritious, low-salt soups will nourish you as they flush waste from your body. People who eat a serving of soup daily lose more weight than those who eat the same amount of calories but don’t eat soup. Go for homemade soup whenever possible, as canned soups are loaded with salt and chemicals.

3. Eat early to keep weight off.
The human body follows a circadian rhythm, which means that the same foods eaten at breakfast and lunch are processed differently than when eaten at dinner. Studies show that when you eat your daily protein and fat at breakfast you tend to lose weight and have more energy; however, eating the same things at dinner tend to increase tendencies toward weight gain. I suggest that you eat your last meal of the day by 7 p.m.

4. Eat smaller meals, more frequently.
Follow an eating schedule with five little meals every day. Eating steadily through the day keeps you from becoming famished and overeating at your next meal. Make a low-fat trail mix from raw almonds, pumpkin seeds, dried plum, and apples and have it available at all times to avoid the tempting lure of high-calorie snacks.

5. Adopt a balanced approach to your diet.
Most of the fad diet programs out there nowadays are extreme in a few recommended foods, or else deprive the body of food altogether. This works in opposition to our metabolism and the results usually don’t last, producing a yoyo effect that depresses your metabolic function – not to mention your self-esteem. We are natural beings that need a balance of nutrition from all sources.

Your diet should consist of a balance of organic sources of lean protein, complex carbohydrates, whole grains, legumes, nuts, fruits, and vegetables. Instead of white rice and pasta, opt for brown rice, bulgur, millet, or buckwheat.

Eat more green, chlorophyll-rich foods such as broccoli, kale, spinach, and asparagus. Eliminate candy, sugar, soda, and all simple sugars from your diet. Excess sugar ends up being stored as fat in your body, which results in weight gain. Also, keep dairy to a minimum because most dairy products are high in saturated fat. Avoid fatty foods, processed or fried foods.

6. Walk off the weight.
The No. 1 cause of weight gain is inactivity. Physical activity is the key to speeding up your metabolism and burning excess calories. The best way to be physically active is to use your legs! Walk as often and as long as you can. Always take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Step outside during your break at work and take a walk around your building. Consider joining a local hiking club. Try taking a walk 30 minutes in the morning or 30 minutes in the early evening.

I hope this article helps you shed some pounds and add on the years! I invite you to visit often and share your own personal health and longevity tips with me.

May you live long, live strong, and live happy!

Loose Skin late 20s..weight loss plan?

Hi there…i’ve lost 15kg in my early twenties…and over the course of 6 years…I had some loose skin which over 3 months became tight

built it back up again…now i plan to go on an exercise regime…losing about 1-2kg a month…i’m prone to stretch marks…

i’m in my late 20s now just wondering if if the weight loss will cause loose skin on the tummy and more stretch marks…

weight loss cardiff answers:

At 2 Kg per moth you will have loose skin but at 1 Kg per month you may not.

At 20 you may be still growing so grow grace fully, acquire a hour glass shape or “V” strong tall body. You can add height till you are 30. So go swimming, do chin up, bicycle as much as you can and do stretch exercises. This will not give loose skin or stretch marks.

Follow this link:

http://www.halls.md/body-mass-index/bmi.…

Your weight should be per this site give or take 10 pounds.

Must drink 1 gallon of water per day.

Eat right, include all food groups per this site above. Do not exceed the total calories per day and eat at least 1500 calories per day every day. Must include some unsaturated fat, some fruits( has various type of sugar, minerals and fibbers), and lots of vegetables(has fibber, vitamins and minerals very low in calories and fills you up so you do not feel hungry, stops craving for sweet foods) , and some carbohydrates, but rest in proteins.

You must sleep up to 7 to 9 hours a day time permitting and including naps.

Go for a walk every day for 1 hour,around your residence, start slowly(5 minute), to warm up then increase the speed a little till you can maintain a good clip then slow down to cool off (5 minute before the end of 1 hour). Do the walking in one direction for about 30 minutes then return home, may take little longer (you are doing it 5 miles a day).

Or look up total body, weight free, free hand, exercises and do them for 1 hour every day. You find them in the library and on the Internet. They can be done at home does not need gym.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hi,

Intentional weight loss is a deliberate attempt to lose weight. Although there are many programmes to help lose weight, the only proven long-term and safe method is to burn more calories than are ingested. This is achieved either by reducing the caloric intake (eat less food or healthier food) or by increasing the energy expenditure (exercise more). Often, behaviour modification techniques like eating smaller portions are also used to help control eating habits. Once the weight is lost, these habits can be modified slightly for weight maintenance.

One pound of fat contains approximately 3,500 calories, so to lose one pound a week, a person should consume approximately 3,500 fewer calories per week. This can be done by reducing the daily intake by 500 calories per day (500 x 7 days will provide a deficit of 3,500 calories per week). To lose 2 pounds per week, a deficit of 1,000 calories per day is required. If this seems impossible, physical activity also contributes significantly to weight loss. The deficit of 500 to 1,000 calories can come from a combination of increased physical activity and reduced intake on a daily basis. Therefore, one does not need to experience significant food deprivation. The lowest intake per day recommended for females is 1,200 calories, unless they are in a medically-supervised, very low-calorie regimen which may have a daily level of 500 to 800 calories per day. The lowest level recommended for males is 1,500 calories per day. A very low-calorie diet can also be used by males if they are in a medically-supervised programme.

A key to weight maintenance and weight loss is to increase daily activity – things like taking the stairs, rather than the elevator or walking rather than driving when possible make a real difference.

Few tips to bring about weight loss as well as ensuring good health:

1.Eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, and grain products like wheat.

2.Increase the consumption of complex carbohydrates like whole wheat, millet (jowar) and barley (bajra)

3.Restrict refined products such as flour (maida) and its products such as bread, noodles, macaronis and pastas in regular diet

4.Restrict fat and cholesterol rich foods. Only non-vegetarian foods (like eggs and dairy products) are good sources of cholesterol, however saturated fatty acids present in butter, ghee, vanaspati and coconut get metabolised to cholesterol in our body

5.Reduce the amount of sugars consumed

6.Consume raw fruits and vegetables in form of salads and raitas in every meal. These provide adequate vitamins, minerals and fibre. Fibre is essential as it aids in digestion, has an effective role in managing obesity and cardiovascular problems

7.Limit salt intake

8.Have small portions of food at a time

9.Do not skip meals

10.Have regular meal timings

11.Do not eat while cooking and watching television

12.Drink plenty of water (6-8 glasses) in a day

13.Exercise regularly. Do brisk walking at least for 20-40 minutes in a day
The best exercises that are sustainable and safe to loose weight are aerobic exercises. Aerobic exercises usually involve vigorous exercises sustained over a period of several minutes and their effect is to increase the efficiency of the lungs, heart and blood circulation, which are collectively known as the aerobic system. Short and sharp bursts of activity which rely on the body’s reserves of oxygen do not produce a similar improvement. Exercises should increase strength and mobility and also aid relaxation. You can choose walking, swimming, bicycling as per your fitness level and increase gradually. You should plan on 20-minute sessions at least 3 times per week. Gradual changes in eating habits will help encourage a permanent lifestyle change. A slow weight loss of 1 or 2 pounds a week, until the desirable body weight is reached, is best.

Lizzie asks…

What foods boosts your metabolism?

im trying to lose weight. cuz i started to gain it.
and i wanna know what everyday foods,fruits,drinks. boosts your metabolism?
so if somebody can give me a list i would gladly appreciate it.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Hey, do you want to lose weight easily by doing nothing or get motivated to lose weight easily without even giving up half-way?

The key and answer to successfully do it is in Your Subconscious Mind.

The subconscious actually stores a multitude of memory patterns which will feed information to the conscious mind when activated. Data is never erased unless the subconscious mind gives that command.
For example, when you walk or drive to your destination, you do it automatically without being aware of it – that is your subconscious mind doing the whole process without your conscious mind.
The subconscious brain is very good at its job and works 24 hours a day on keeping us alive.

The subconscious controls and regulates involuntary functions of the body such as breathing, circulation, Metabolism, Digestion, hormone balance, etc.

So you may wonder.. How do you tweak or make your subconscious mind to lose weight easily? The answer is… Hypnosis!

Hypnosis is done by bypassing your conscious mind to your subconscious mind giving instructions and storing them successfully.
That is why people can quit smoking, feel extremely motivated, attain success easily, study easily and so on Successfully just after 1 session of hypnosis! Even faith-healing uses Hypnosis!

My friend tried hypnosis to lose weight. Initially, her weight was 198lbs and she lost 18.3lbs within 3-weeks! All by natural metabolism! And she never even change her diet but ate as normal!

The best thing about losing weight via metabolism is… It burns fat everywhere in your body equally! This makes your body look perfect in shape!

You will thank me because I can guarantee you Hypnosis Works! You can just let your natural metabolism be high and Lose Fat Doing NOTHING effectively and immediately or be motivated to stop binge eating and exercise regularly without pain or laziness!

Laura asks…

Will losing 10 pounds make a difference in my appearance?

I’m female, 5’1, 186, in high school. I know I’m overweight but will losing 10 pounds make a difference in my appearance, especially my thighs?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Losing 10 lbs a month is a good and safe target. Any faster weight loss is likely to be temporary only and in most cases you regain it all.

Running, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, push ups, sit ups, squats, brisk walking and power walking all help for weight loss but dieting helps more.

One of the healthiest weight loss diets is the DASH diet.

The healthy DASH diet can help you lose weight safely and effectively, lower your cholesterol and lower your blood pressure.

It is based on an eating plan rich in fruits and vegetables, and low-fat or non-fat dairy, with whole grains. It is a high fiber, low to moderate fat diet, and is rich in potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

You can see further details in a web search for “dash diet” + “lose weight”.

Diet Tips:

*Drink half your weight in ounces of water daily
*Stay away from all “white” foods (they are simple carbs that turn into glucose easily) – bread, pasta, white rice, white potatoes.
*Eat three meals a day and 3 snacks a day.
*Don’t eat anything 3 hours before going to sleep.
*Don’t eat any fast food
*Shop around the perimeter of your market. Stay away from packaged foods.
*Take a good multi-vitamin, omega-3, CoQ10, and a good antioxidant every day.
*Do not count calories. It’s a myth. The body counts nutrition

Helen asks…

Does not eating help you lose weight?

I want to lose weight but i cant. and ive heard that not eating and some exercise loses weight. is it true?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Not eating DOES make you loose weight… In the short-term. What the previous answers said were correct, under certain but very likely conditions.

When you stop eating, your body first begins to break down muscle. When this supply of nutrients is nearing depletion, it then begins to break down fat.

Now, during all of this, your body senses it’s impending death if things continue, so it slows down the metabolism, effectively putting the body in “starvation mode”.

Now, here’s where the gaining weight part comes in.

In starvation mode, your body will hold onto anything put in it; much more so than a person who’s eating normally. So, once you begin to eat again, you’ll almost certainly gain back the weight you loss, plus extra. This also makes any form of dieting harder in the future, as your body will remember what’s been done to it, and will hang onto that fat with everything it’s got.

Now, it’s very easy to think “I’ll just not eat anything!”. But it’s extremely difficult to beat your hunger and body’s desire to live. Almost certainly, you WILL eat again. And if you don’t… Then your life will end.

And don’t think you’ll be enjoying the thinness either. Let’s look at some of the effects of anorexia:

* Extreme weight loss
* Body mass index less than 17.5 in adults, or 85% of expected weight in children
* Stunted growth
* Endocrine disorder, leading to cessation of periods in girls (amenorrhoea)
* Decreased libido; impotence in males
* Starvation symptoms, such as reduced metabolism, slow heart rate (bradycardia), hypotension, hypothermia and anemia
* Abnormalities of mineral and electrolyte levels in the body
* Thinning of the hair
* Growth of lanugo hair over the body
* Constantly feeling cold
* Zinc deficiency
* Reduction in white blood cell count
* Reduced immune system function
* Pallid complexion and sunken eyes
* Creaking joints and bones
* Collection of fluid in ankles during the day and around eyes during the night
* Tooth decay
* Constipation
* Dry skin
* Dry or chapped lips
* Poor circulation, resulting in common attacks of ‘pins and needles’ and purple extremities
* In cases of extreme weight loss, there can be nerve deterioration, leading to difficulty in moving the feet
* Headaches
* Brittle fingernails
* Bruising easily
* Low self-esteem and self-efficacy
* Intense fear about becoming overweight
* Clinical depression or chronically low mood
* Mood swings
*Withdrawal from previous friendships and other peer-relationships
*Deterioration in relationships with the family
*Fainting
*Self-harm, substance abuse or suicide attempts

So… Either loose weight a healthy way, or become skinny for a short while, and then die.

The choice is your’s.

Your Question About Easy Weight Loss

Sandra asks…

what is involved getting weight loss surgery?

My health is getting worse. I have talked to my dr about my weight gain for years and all she says is diet and exercise and as I been seeing her i have crept on another 30 lbs I am fat as ever now and I have tried all diets and now my knees are in pain. She refuses to even entertain the idea of the Weight loss surgery. I am in portland oregon and on I am on the providence personal option. I need a new dr or something. Because I will be 300lbs before long and my dr. will still just say diet and exercise. Hell if it was that easy I’d been done already!! this has been going on three years! I HAVE CUT out all sugar; deep friend foods> she took a thyroid test and it was normal. My family has all been obese I am fight against all odds here and its been very depressing. any serious ideas ? Please don’t beat your drum about diet and exercise and furits and veggies I heard it all and tried it all. How do I get to the steps to have the surgery?

weight loss cardiff answers:

God bless you. I’ve been there & done that all my life in one form or another.
Obese parents & an obese brother. Obesity started “growing on me” at age 18 while pregnant with my 1st child. Now an aging 5 foot 2 inch tall baby boomer; I still am obese. I’ve been up to 289 before & as low as 164 & currently I’m stuck in the middle again.

I’ve tried most every diet & weight-loss trend from fasting in the 60’s to the popcorn diet of the 70’s, Weight Watches times 3, to having my teeth wired together by the dentist, & after some more dieting I had gastric surgery. In the early 80’s I underwent gastric stapling; decreasing the size of your stomach pouch down to a 2 ounce capacity. It was a “new” dangerous major surgery done by a pair of “fly-by-night” surgeons. This proceedure was nearly unheard anywhere except some major urban areas. These docs took a rural area of Alabama by storm, did big numbers of surgeries with almost nil post-op care & were gone in 2 years.

After surgery you were supposed to be on clear liquids, a couple of weeks later creamy liquids, & at 6 weeks at baby food level. Only able to hold 1-2 ounces at a time; nutrition & hydration was minimal to poor. Hair loss came with weight loss, my dental health suffered over the next couple of years, and it took a little over 3 months to learn how to “out eat” the tiny pouch. At that point I was hungry all the time having lost from 254 to 217 pounds & oh so tired of the prescribed die and depression had set in.

Post-op the idea was that you’d learn not to over-eat since you’d throw-up each time you ate even a small amount over your stomach’s capacity; but I never could throw-up. The food over-filled the stomach pouch & stretched it’s capacity larger & larger until 2 surgical staples popped open making it even larger. The food I ate filled to gastric pouch & would pack up in my esophagus causing sub-sternal pain, nausea, & restless nights. By this time the doc had left the area & were not to be found & the E. R. One night tried to feed me massive amounts of meat tenderizer to help desolve the food remaining above the level of the stomach. Needless to say, that didn’t work. The story goes on & on.

Surgery doesn’t have to be as invasive today; there are “lap banding” proceedures done as a 1 day surgery. The surgeon (certifed & well experienced in this specialty area) will put a band around your stomach pouch creating a smaller capacity without big-time gastric surgery. This band will stay in place as long as need & can be adjusted larger as need be & can be totally removed if need be. Less expensive, very little time off work (many done on Friday am), & safer. There still remains gastric bypass; very invasive with much greater risk of morbidity or even death. Bariatric surgerons are a specialty of there own & high skilled. You undergo screening by several disiplines & get a lot of pre-op & post-op care. Safer yet risky, a life saver for many & for others not what you expected.

Research all your choices carefully. There are many bariatric websites with forums where want-to-be patients, pre-approved pre-op patients, & post-op new & long patients who can voice all feelings & outcomes whether they maybe good or bad for their particular situation. Also research sleep apnea to determine if you might be a candidate for a sleep study.

Mind-set to feel better, more active & be healthier has proved to be most beneficial for me to lose weight & keep that weight off. After having a stroke (recovering 90% from that), having total hip replacement (& now moving around much better): God has given me another chance to “do this right”. Success will be up to me. Having loving supporters around you physically, by phone, or email will aid you much along the way. A small miracle in the form of a chubby North Carolina woman has helped change my mind-set, elevated my hope & changed my moods for the best. Her name is Marla Cilley, better known as “FLYLADY”, & has a website flylady.net. She is a motivational speaker in a genuine form but even better yet a great author. She has 2 best-selling books out I highly reccomend. Most closely related to weight loss is her book called “BODY CLUTTER”. If you read this from cover to cover & set your mind to absorb what is really being said…it should be a great help to you as it has been for me. I’ve gained much more insight into knowing why & how I went from average size to chubby to fat. All this newly gained insight is slowly changing my entire being & I’ve added a new hopefull outlook on life knowing I can lose at least a major part of my “BODY CLUTTER”.
She has a second book out I really needed, not weight-loss oriented, called “SINK REFLECTIONS” you might browse thru at the library, borrow, or buy thru her website, Amazon or at the book store. Flylady has a partner in crime called Leanne Ely aka the “DINNER DIVA” (she co-authored Body Clutter). She’s a nutritionist with tasty menus for any type of eating (diet) you like & know is best for the new you. The menus have a shopping list for the week, a pantry list of things to keep on hand, and daily menus. Leanne Ely has a websute savingdinner.com & one of her books is called Saving Dinner.

I hear your cries for help, I hear your anger & frustration, & I know how you feel. I know how people treat us fatties, I know how doctors, dieticians, exercise gurus, relatives, “friends”, fellow workers, employers, airlines, etc etc treat you year-end & year-out. I know how it feels to be a failure in your own mind & often that of others. I know how it feels to be ignored to the point you nearly don’t exist….. BUT TIMES ARE CHANGING HONEY & THE TIME IS NOW FOR YOU SWEETHEART.

GO GET ‘EM! Ain’t nuttin’ honey that can stop you but you.
All my comments are honest & meant to be loving and helpful.

How can I target stomach weight loss?

I weigh 240 now, which is 18 fewer than I weighed two months ago. I’ve begun eating healthy and cutting out absolutely everything unhealthy most of the time. I haven’t exercised in a few weeks, so I should really get back to doing that, but I was wondering if anyone was aware of a particular exercise regimen that would target weight loss in my stomach, since that seems to be my problem area. Can anyone help?

weight loss cardiff answers:

Managing total calorie intake is shown to be even more important than exercise in terms of weight loss. It is good you are working on better eating habits. The best part is that with medical supervision you can take safe pills to help you cut back even more and lose the weight for good. It’s far easier to maintain LOST weight than to lose it.

Michael asks…

What is a good Liver Detox Recipe?

Do any of you have a good liver detox diet or recipe? I have been a bit hard on taking Tylenol the last couple of days and want to do a liver cleanse/detox. Do any of you have a good recipe?

weight loss cardiff answers:

You do not need to ‘detox’.

“We have a liver and kidneys, and they are quite efficient at processing out anything toxic,” says American Dietetic Association spokeswoman Lona Sandon, R.D., assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Colon-cleansing products might actually weaken immunity by killing good bacteria that fend off invading germs in the gut. And fasting can trigger arrhythmia and even cardiac arrest because of the rapid loss of key electrolytes.

Mary asks…

What are some good Paleo Diet (Caveman Diet) recipes for breads and muffins?

I wondered if anyone had recipes that they’ve tried for Paleo breads or muffins using almond, coconut or any other Paleo acceptable flour.

weight loss cardiff answers:

Raatz is absolutely clueless like most who comment about paleo on here. She seems to not understand that the paleo and primal diets are about eating as much as we possibly can like our paleolithic ancestors with some modern modifications. Building up strawmans doesn’t make you win the debate. Calling something stupid like that without understanding anything is stupid. We can enjoy healthified treats sometimes. Our ancestors had nuts so making bread from them isn’t that bad anyway. There are a lot of great bread recipes.

I like maria healths amazing bread and against all grain grain free sandwich bread. If you want muffins, check out elanas pantry and against all grain. I like their recipes.

You can find more recipes on sites like chow and dessert stalker, the foodee, fast paleo… They compile paleo and primal recipes from around the net.

Nobody should be on a liquid diet without doctor supervision. IT is incredibly easy to end up malnourished or ill.
