Weight loss concerns.?

I am an over weight college student. I have decided that I would like to take about 75 lbs off of my weight. I have one hour every day set aside to do work outs. Also, I am ready to adjust my diet. My questions:

1. How much is a safe weight to drop over the course of a month, or what is a good set of time to allow myself to drop the 75lbs. (Please include a credible source)
2. What types of diets are good for lowering cholesterol and easy weight loss. (Please include a credible source)
3. What type of exercise regimine will allow for weight gain AS WELL AS muscule deffinition. (Please include a credible source)
4. Finally, is there anything else I can do that will allow for easier weight loss. (Please include a credible source)

If you want a credible source, go to your doctor. He’ll be the best person who can talk to you about cholesterol and the rate you can lose weight safest.

1) i don’t know how heavy you are, so i don’t know what a safe weight is for you. But in general, 1-2 lbs per week.
2) already talked about cholesterol, but there is no diet that is “easy” for weight loss, unless you’re going the fad diet route. And if you want to keep 75 lbs OFF, you do not want an easy way. Weight stays off the best lost at a steady pace using diet and exercise as your tools.
3) you need to lift weights AND do cardio. I do as much as i can on the elliptical(usually 25 minutes), and lift weights like a crazy person afterwards. Lifting more weight at lower reps will increase your strength and build muscle, lifting less weight at higher reps will tone your muscles. More muscle means your metabolism is faster.
4) already covered easy weight loss. It’s a hard journey.

Bye Bye Birth Control? Weight Loss?

I went on birth control (Tri Cyclen) back when I was in Grade 10 – which was approx. 7 years ago. When I first went on it, the weight seemed to pile on. I know it’s debated whether going on birth control increases weight gain, all I know is I’m talking about my personal experience.

Anyways, after 7 years of being on the pill, I’ve decided to go off of it.
I’m wondering from anyone else’s experience out there, that if going off the pill results in easier weight loss (with correct diet and exercise of course), compared to staying on the pill and correcting diet and exercise??

I’ve known several people who stopped taking Ortho Tri-cyclen and switched to another (lower dose) of birth control, and they lost all (and more) of the weight they had gained from being on Ortho. Generally speaking, pills that use ethinyl estradiol as the hormones can cause the most weight gain.

It does have a lot to do with your lifestyle, but I found it hard to keep weight off when I was on Levora. I just stopped taking it a few weeks ago, and I’ve already noticed a difference in my hunger and metabolism.

If you need to continue using birth control, ask your doctor for a lower dose pill and one without a reputation for making you gain weight!

What are the best exercises to lose weight for people with hip problems?

My husband was born with square femoral head (the ball joint). Growing up je had to wear a hip brace that caused hip hip joint to grind itself out into a circle. Since then he has always had sever hip pain. He feels over weight now and wants to lose weight. Its hard for him to walk very far without being caused a lot of pain. Does any one have any suggestions for weight loss exercises that might help him?

Research “Intermittent fasting” on the internet. It will help your husband with the weight… Especially if he can’t do exercises. Of course the diet/eating is the first thing he has to take care of.

So, research that and as far as exercise goes, may be he can do something like rowing in the gym, if this piece of equipment is available in your local gym. I’m sure he will be able to find other ways to expend calories since he knows his condition and abilities best, but again, start with the diet.

Intermittent fasting is a very healthy way of eating, people have been doing it for thousands of years, it’s very easy, intuitive and natural, it makes you eat less calories without you even noticing. I do it and I’m a former natural bodybuilder. I’ve always eaten 6 times a day before that…

Well here are the diets I found that work the best for most people:

So which one works the best. How do you know what works for you and what doesn’t? There has got to be some truth to all these diets.

Can a hamster have sugar in their diets?

To be more specific, in some diets in certain brand food they include sugar in the ingredients. Does anyone know how this affects hamsters?

I’ve done my google searching, and to my surprise I didn’t find much information. The specific brand is Hutch Klub Food – Hamster & Gerbil- 2 lb. They didn’t specify how much sugar is in the mix.

why do raw food diets for cats contain vegetables and fruits?

I have read that cats do not need fruits and veges in their diets and they derive very little nutrition from them… Why do most organic raw food diets contain these unnecessary ingredients then?

I make my own homemade raw food (catinfo.org) and there are no vegetables or fruits.
The reason manufactures add veggies and fruits is because they are cheaper and humans think it is good.
My cats haven’t had fruits or veggies all their lives and they are healthy and happy.

You can also do crunches on the floor with a 5 to 10lb weight for more resistance on your abs. Put your feet under a couch or something like that to help you balance when you are coming up.

Your age, height, current weight, sleep patterns, and the type of diet (eating habits) that you currently have for starters. Five pounds is really a small and tricky amount of weight to lose as you could easily fluctuate five pounds week to week. If you are resting and eating properly (7-9 hours daily, calories proportional to your height/age along w/six meals daily ie. Meal snack meal snack meal snack) then the only thing besides working out to speed up your metabolism would be to drink lots and lots of water. Cranberry juice will also help you to “lose” some weight. However it’s such a small amount of weight that without exercise you’re likely to fluctuate the entire time.

There are exercises you can do without being on your ankle. Situps, crunches, pull ups, and a lot of different upper body training exercises. Weight training will help to speed up your metabolism as well and burn calories and fat right off your body, it will not turn you into a body builder. Muscles are heavier than fat. Therefore gaining muscles could mean getting heavier. I think what you should aim at is to loose fat rather than muscle; and proper diet is the only way to do that. First, please note that the amount of calories required varies from person to person and so there is no need to worry about the amount of calories you consume as about eating the proper foods.

When there is inadequate intake of certain essential nutrients, fat is not easily or adequately burned and can accumulate in the body. Rotate your foods, and be sure to eat a variety of foods. Eat meals that consist of a balance of proteins, complex carbohydrates, and some fat. Proteins can increase your metabolic rate by as much as 30%, and help to balance the release of insulin by prompting secretion of the pancreatic hormone glucagons. Protein-induced glucagons, mobilizes fats from the tissues in which it is stored, thus aiding in weight loss. By eating balanced meals you get more steady blood sugar levels and the ability to burn stored body fat for long-term weight loss. Eat mainly plant proteins, such as nut, seeds, and grains.

Eat fresh fruits and an abundance of raw vegetables. Have one meal each day that consists entirely of vegetables and fruits. Use more low calorie vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, carrots, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, green beans, kale, lettuce, onions, radishes, spinach, and turnips. Eat more of the low calorie, low-carbohydrate fruits including, apples, cantaloupe, grapefruit, strawberries, and watermelon.

Eat foods raw where possible. Drink 8 – 10 glasses of water each day. Also include home made fruit juices and vegetable juices in your diet. Eat a wide variety of fruits and vegetables – at least all kinds that you can get your hands on. Just eat more of the low cal., low carb ones. Eat at least 3 times per day, your breakfast being the largest and very nutritious. And do not forget to take exercise.

Example of meals

Breakfast:- a complex carbohydrate (yam, green banana, potato, etc.), steamed green leafy vegetable, meat or fresh, fruits, mixed with nuts, and seeds.

Mid Afternoon meal:- of meat or fish, 1 or 2 complex carbohydrate (eg. Yam, potatoes, pumpkin etc), a mixture of raw vegetables, (eg. Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, broccoli, yellow or red sweet pepper, shredded carrots), varied mixture of steam vegetables (eg a leafy vegetable and/or string beans, or a vegetable salad)

If you’d like to add drink – preferably home made fruit or vegetable juice.

Evening Meal:- A mixture of different fruits with nuts and seeds. Or a mixture of different raw vegetables with nuts, seeds, and cheese.

The above examples are just guidelines that you may follow. You should vary your meals.
